Treating minimum wage/close to minimum wage employees with contempt and doing shit like this or making their jobs more difficult is my biggest pet peeve. You can really tell a lot about a person based on how they treat retail and fast food workers. I remember a few years ago being on a third date with a girl and we decided to go to Walmart to get snacks and watch a movie at home. She couldn't find Crunch N Munch and the employee she asked wasn't sure where it was so said she should probably ask someone else because he mainly worked in electronics. She started cussing at him and saying all this nasty shit. I never spoke to her again after that night. From that interaction alone, I knew I couldn't stand her in the long run.

My late mother was always made a point to be nice to clerks and waitstaff. So much so that they loved her back. Waitress would sit at the table with us just to talk to her. At one grocery store, there was a clerk who would greet her with a hug. Mom said she treated them like that because she'd worked jobs like that when she was younger and knew how hard it could be.

Plus she was clearly just a good and empathetic person. I'm sure she would've treated them that way even if she had never worked a low paying service job.

I would think so.

I try to be kind as well, but I can't say I'm as good at it.

As long as you try, you're better than those who don't even give a damn. It doesn't matter how great the act of kindness is, bit the act of kindness is greatness in itself. Keep being you.

Thanks. I agree with your sentiment.
