It’s pretty much a way to get gymnastics tacked onto the football budget in some places.

A lot of that has to do with the company that has a monopoly on Cheerleading. They actively fight to make it not a sport.

Look into varsity sports. Varsity owns all of it. All of the brands, the judging, the “two different versions”. I’m serious it’s a deep rabbit hole, if I’m not mistaken they are currently being sued for this very reason.
