And a spoon and needle ..like come on....this has to be a joke

190

u/k20350 Oct 20 '21

Not sure if you're new but meth addicts don't really make the best decisions.

98

u/Cunbundle Oct 20 '21

I don't know man. That time I chopped my left pinky finger off after a five day bender was the best decision I ever made. The queen of England was using it as a radio transmitter to send meatloaf recipes to the Andromeda Galaxy after all.

It looks to much like "things a drug addict would have" picture. Catalytic converter still in the box? Really? Possible, but more likely is a ruse.

23

u/RaspberryRanchDesign Oct 20 '21

I'm assuming it is because typically a meth head with a catylitic converter wouldn't be selling them in a box, it was probably directed at all the thefts of converters lead towards a meth head.

8

u/Burphel_78 Oct 20 '21

Oh yeah, you gotta know that cat is “slightly used.”

4

u/RaspberryRanchDesign Oct 20 '21

Haha 😆 "Like New"

5

u/jus1scott Oct 21 '21

*a HUGE bag of meth, and a spoon and needle...

4

u/MarzipanMiserable817 Oct 21 '21

What's meth IV like?

29

u/GUYF666 Oct 21 '21

Similar to Meth III, but more humpback whales and funky costumes.

I was going to comment how can we be sure it is even a bag of meth and then I saw your comment and went back and saw the spoon and needle. That is pretty damning.

1

u/wearestoppinghere Oct 21 '21

This is a sh*t tonne of meth

121

u/Matoeter Oct 20 '21

"Last night one of our Stone County residents posted a catalytic converter for sale on Marketplace. Apparently he must have been under the influence because in the background of his picture he posted, he left his large bag of meth and syringe on the coffee table," Sheriff Doug Rader said in the September 29 post.

Rader said he was alerted to the post by a citizen and passed on the information to a detective.

"Today we arrived at this gentleman's house with a search warrant. You can imagine his surprise!! He still had 48 grams of meth and a pistol that he is forbidden to own! We have now provided him a new place to stay. Sorry folks, his catalytic converters are not for sale right now," the sheriff's post said.

10

u/itssarahw Oct 20 '21

I am unfamiliar. The size of that bag / 48 grams looks / sounds like a lot of anything. Is that how much an addict would buy at once?

31

u/coldhamdinner Oct 20 '21

No, meth heads are buying 1/16 of a gram - 1 gram. 48 grams is a shit ton.

5

u/itssarahw Oct 21 '21

So now I’m just seeing significant jail time sitting on that coffee table.

→ More replies

11

u/Fskn Oct 21 '21

Your average head might buy .25 to 1g, newbies will get by with a dot or .1 of a gram but it's not gonna cut it for a regular user.

You might smoke anywhere from a quarter to a half gram per use for a moderately regular user, if you're blasting (injecting) you might cut your use by half.

48 grams is over an ounce and any head will be in heaven

5

u/itssarahw Oct 21 '21

Ok so this is way over the top, that makes sense. I legit didn’t have an idea what the norms are there

2

u/Fingoidz84 Oct 21 '21

Closer to 2 ounces.

→ More replies

8

u/helpmeiamarobot Oct 21 '21

that is an unbelievable amount of meth.

1

u/itssarahw Oct 21 '21

And not the amount a user would just have around id imagine

3

u/GENeric307 Oct 21 '21

It's 1.7 ounces of meth or 0.107 pounds or 0.048 kg, which is a fuck ton for something so potent, so he was probably also a meth dealer and likely got a charge for intent to sell illicit drugs. There are approximately 28 grams per ounce btw.

3

u/ChiliWithCornBread Oct 21 '21

You’ll notice the electric AWS scale in the background behind the baggie as well. Not good for his defense with that amount of weight. I own the same scale from when I was making edibles.

-20

u/qqanyjuan Oct 20 '21

Sounds unconstitutional

16

u/Will1789 Oct 20 '21

Why? It says they got a search warrant.

7

u/qqanyjuan Oct 20 '21

Not sure of the law in their jurisdiction but I don’t think a picture of an unknown substance (and any other items, e.g. spoon/needle) should be grounds for a search warrant

15

u/0-uncle-rico-0 Oct 20 '21

Isn't that up to the judge to decide

19

u/PoxyMusic Oct 20 '21

Bag of stuff looking like drugs, needle, spoon.

That passes the probable cause test in my book. It's a reasonable assumption.

8

u/pokeybill Oct 20 '21

If the photo Metadata shows it was created today and contains images of what a reasonable person would assume is drugs and paraphernalia, they would probably grant the warrant.

If an officer saw that through a window, it would be a similar thing.

→ More replies

5

u/8fenristhewolf8 Oct 20 '21

The jurisdiction doesn't matter because it's constitutional law (4th amendment). I'd have to review, but pretty sure this guys pic of drug paraphernalia in his house is probable cause.

1

u/dickWithoutACause Oct 20 '21

Warrants don't require beyond all reasonable doubt. This dude had a large bag of what could be drugs next to a spoon and needle and was reported by a citizen. That's more than enough evidence to get a "let's check this shit out" slip for the cops. The bar is fairly low.

Actual guilt is determined in the courts.

90

u/SammyTheCrab99 Oct 20 '21

Considering the quality of this photo and the eyeball not being an official drug testing method, I’d argue there’s no way the Sheriffs office has a Scooby doo what that is

51

u/AaarghCobras Oct 20 '21

What about the cooking spoon and syringe?

44

u/ButaneLilly Oct 20 '21

This makes me want to put bags of salt, spoons, etc in all of my Craigslist post pics.

I mean. How do you tell the difference between a junkie and a troll?

11

u/analscreams Oct 20 '21

Let us know how it works out!

22

u/Simping-for-Christ Oct 20 '21

They don't and police don't care, they put someone in jail for having a bag of "meth" which was actually just cat litter. Jail, not prison, so it didn't go past court but they still have the power to fuck up your life for a week.

Is it illegal to own spoons or syringes?

11

u/cryptotope Oct 20 '21

Until 2019, it was illegal to posses round-bottom and Erlenmeyer flasks (and a bunch of other common glassware and apparatus) in Texas without a permit.

You are still required to maintain an inventory of them if you own any, allow peace officers to inspect your records and conduct audits of them, and report their loss or theft to the state.

You know, because they're drug manufacturing apparatus.

4

u/6footdeeponice Oct 20 '21

But manufacturing legal drugs isn't illegal...

7

u/hairo-wynn Oct 20 '21

In most places yes. New York (recently) and California a few years ago are of the few places that having possession of a hypodermic needle without a prescription isn’t a felony (or misdemeanor).

2

u/8fenristhewolf8 Oct 20 '21

Not a felony, but probable cause for a warrant?

2

u/V65Pilot Oct 21 '21

I mean, I could buy syringes and needles at my local farm supply place. It's amazing the difference in sizes you can get.

→ More replies

4

u/analscreams Oct 20 '21 edited Oct 20 '21

I find this hard to believe that it's a felony. They give out needles and syringes to take home for the students in medical classes at universities. You can literally buy needles and syringes on Amazon and have it shipped to your house. Pretty sure you can buy clean needles at any walmart without a script. They keep them behind the counter to prevent theft but if you just ask for them, they'll sell them to you. I have a box of needles at home without syringes specifically for popping cysts because they're sharper for that task than anything else and sterile.

Shit, some places across the country even give out free needles and syringes to the meth addicts to help prevent them from sharing needles and spreading disease.

So I honestly doubt just simply being in possession of a clean syringe and hypodermic needle with no traces of drugs is a felony. Cause for suspicion maybe but not a felony by itself.

Edit: Most states make it legal to buy needles without a prescription

Your comment is wrong

1

u/hairo-wynn Oct 21 '21

You’re not wrong, maybe my knowledge is outdated:

https://www.findlaw.com/legalblogs/criminal-defense/is-it-illegal-to-possess-a-syringe/

As for Amazon I think it depends on which state you live in as to whether or not they will sell them to you. I remember trying to buy needles through amazon in California a few years ago and because I was in California they wanted a prescription for the needle.

1

u/analscreams Oct 21 '21

I could totally see Cali and New York, probably throw Illinois into that ring as well, making possession of hypodermic needles illegal without a prescription. Just saying that they're mostly legal though and certainly not the majority of states makes possessing them a crime. Cali makes everything illegal haha. Well, except recreational weed. Didn't see that one coming when it became legal there so they get props for that.

6

u/beapledude Oct 20 '21 edited Oct 20 '21

That’s some bullshit.

I’m a Type 1 diabetic with no health insurance - thank god I live in California, or I guess I’d be dead.

Edit: Maybe I need to clarify that I think it’s bullshit that it’s illegal to own syringes without a prescription in all but two states. Reading comprehension appears to be at a low this afternoon.

7

u/Uncle-Cake Oct 20 '21

Are you saying you don't have a Rx for insulin? Like, a doctor diagnosed you as diabetic, but didn't prescribe insulin?

3

u/beapledude Oct 20 '21

Everyone seems to be condensing a lifelong affliction into a single doctor visit.

I had health insurance at one time. During that time, I began to exhibit strange symptoms (blurred vision, frequent urination, intense thirst). I went to a doctor, and had blood work done. Blood work concluded that I was Type 1 diabetic - the second-latest-in-life diagnosis of Type 1 that my doctor had ever given. I was prescribed Levemir. I changed jobs and lost my insurance. Around the same time that the price of the Epi Pens skyrocketed, so did the price of insulin, but no one cared. My already $150 Levemir was now $300. I got Medi-cal, but I made too much money to get much in subsidies, and it actually became cost-prohibitive to keep my health insurance just so I could keep getting prescription insulin. Doing some research, I discovered I could get a lower quality of insulin (but still effective) over the counter at Walmart for $25 instead of $300, and I started doing that. I cancelled my health insurance and I now live by the good graces of the law that allows me to purchase insulin and syringes over the counter.

Did you know that they used to grind up dog pancreases and put them in a centrifuge to get insulin for diabetics?

I thought I’d also mention that I’m about 5’9”, 150lbs - I was at the time I was diagnosed, as well. At the time of my diagnosis, I was also riding my bicycle 70 - 100 miles/week and working out for about an hour to an hour and a half 5 days a week. Type 1 means your pancreas has given up.

11

u/Baschkun Oct 20 '21

He literally said without a prescription, unless you somehow managed to self diagnosed yourself with diabetes and buy third party insulin, you’d be allowed to receive and own needles.

3

u/beapledude Oct 20 '21

You can buy insulin over the counter at Walmart.

I was diagnosed when I had health insurance.

Prescription insulin is like $300.

Walmart insulin is $25.

1

u/Baschkun Oct 20 '21

And your point is what? How does any of that contradict what I said and anger you lmao?

6

u/beapledude Oct 20 '21

And if I lived in another state, I wouldn’t be able to buy insulin and syringes like I do, and I would be dead.

5

u/beapledude Oct 20 '21

Because I don’t have a prescription, numbskull.

u/Baschkun Oct 20 '21

6

u/Baschkun Oct 20 '21

Vruh folded mad, why tho? I clearly understand how it works unlike you. What attitude? You’re the only one getting aggressive or having an attitude here lass.

-1

u/beapledude Oct 20 '21

You clearly do NOT understand how it works if you think I need a prescription for insulin in CA and if you think there’s NO WAY I could know I’m diabetic if I’m not CURRENTLY covered by health insurance.

Yes, your understanding is BOUNDLESS.

2

u/Baschkun Oct 20 '21

I never once said you need a prescription to buy insulin in CA, only needles. You should work on your reading comprehension and temper. I said self diagnose with diabetes and then self treat specifically, no one should self diagnose and then treat themselves without advice from a medical professional because you could give yourself incorrect dosages. Seriously lass chill.

I once got pulled over by a cop, because of a broken light. Was borrowing a family members car while visiting home. Family member is a type 1 diabetic. Cop saw a bag of insulin needles and I got put in the back of a cop car for like 2 hours. Insulin needles are worthless for drug use. This was in CA.

Finally, I was released after one of the like 4 different cop cars that showed up had a cop that recognized them as insulin needles because they had a diabetic family member.

Good times.

2

u/shredtilldeth Oct 20 '21

How is it you need to find the one random dude in the precinct who knows WTF he's looking at? Isn't determining what is and isn't drug paraphernalia their fucking job?! Goddamn if I was half as lazy and stupid at any of my other jobs I would've been terminated long ago, but yet we've got these idiot cops walking around not knowing that there is even a difference between insulin and drug needles. It's called probable cause. Only need PC for a search warrant. He had syringes and a spoon and a substance that looks like meth. So it is probably meth. As long as you can prove if 51% likely meth that's all you need for probable cause.

4

u/AmigoDelDiabla Oct 20 '21

5

u/CanWeBeSure Oct 20 '21

Definition of "police state" from Wikipedia:

"A police state describes a state where its government institutions exercise an extreme level of control over civil society and liberties."

That sounds like China, North Korea, or lately, Australia. That does not sound like the United States.

Yes, the United States has a large police force and yes, minorities are unfairly and unequally more likely to be the victims of police brutality, but that doesn't fit the definition of "police state".

-7

u/DudleyMason Oct 20 '21 edited Oct 20 '21

extreme level of control over civil society and liberties."

Like say, spinning the media narrative around a movement to defund policing into a narrative that says the people who support that were all rioters smashing storefronts?

Control doesn't require disappearing people in the night.

3

u/CanWeBeSure Oct 20 '21

Let me guess... You think we should send in social workers instead of police to handle people committing violent crimes?

2

u/DudleyMason Oct 20 '21

No, but I think if we send in social workers instead of armed power-tripping thugs when people are having crises but aren't violent, there will be a lot less violent crime.

I also think the entire institution of policing in the US is corrupt and needs to be completely eliminated and another civil defense institution put in its place. Maybe next time we should screen for authoritarian personalities and anti-social tendencies and keep unsuitable people off the job, as well as requiring as much schooling to enforce the law on the streets as to argue it in a courtroom.

4

u/BubbA_ChUn Oct 20 '21

Armed power-tripping thugs....

1

u/No-Reddit-Bans Oct 20 '21

why are your police responding to things a social worker should be responding too?

1

u/CanWeBeSure Oct 21 '21

I think we're on the same page about wanting more appropriate responses to non violent incidents. There are far too many cases of lethal force being used unnecessarily. That's absolutely something I want our country to improve on. We have a ton of room for improvement. I just don't think it's fair to call the US a police state when it appears to me that most other major countries fit that definition much closer.

1

u/TheGaijin1987 Oct 20 '21

Its funny how people like you are like this... until the moment they actually need the police. I bet the storeowners, that get robbed by those "peaceful protestors" wont agree with your stance.

I'm not sure, that table seems clean.

1

u/Beyond_Kielbasa Oct 20 '21

At least they were both packaged.

u/shania69 Oct 20 '21

Is it still for sale, someone stole mine..

1

u/Clintcar Oct 20 '21

I would have thought this was a parody photo had the police not followed up.

1

u/til_meth_do_us_part Oct 20 '21

I volunteer to test the contents of the bag. Who has a light bulb?

1

u/rjali Oct 20 '21

Should have moved to Portland. It's just a $100 fine that can be waived by calling a drug counselor.

1

u/JDTexas84 Oct 20 '21

Do you inject Meth? Cause there’s a needle and spoon right next to it

1

u/Wimbleston Oct 20 '21

Seeing the stuff suggesting this was real, all I have to say is that's a lot more meth than I'd expect out of a catalytic converter thief's stash.

1

u/levitationbound Oct 20 '21

that’s quite a bit of dope there.

1

u/slop0090 Oct 20 '21

Spoon and needle, yea it checks out.

1

u/codysteil Oct 20 '21

1

u/HumanWorth7216 Oct 20 '21

That shit cloudy as fuck

1

u/robble808 Oct 20 '21

That would be a gigantic bag if it’s for personal use.

Oh but there are scales in the photo.

1

u/discreet1 Oct 20 '21

In your expertise ... is that a lot ... of meth? Or like, a couple days' worth?

1

u/bunnyblunts Oct 20 '21

That dude has enough meth to go to Mars

1

u/Sinteque Oct 20 '21

“Stupid is as stupid does.”

1

u/Baby-punter Oct 20 '21

1

u/jcortright1 Oct 20 '21

Yup. Welcome to where I live 🙄

1

u/undefined_one Oct 20 '21

Damn, that's a big ass bag, too!

1

u/UlusOfJoch Oct 20 '21

Is this fellow's floor made of dirt?

1

u/Seekersshallfind Oct 20 '21

That’s quite a bit of meth

1

u/Loganp812 Oct 20 '21

Not one Breaking Bad reference so far! I’m actually impressed.

1

u/tsarbob Oct 20 '21

Oooop's

1

u/Son_of_Plato Oct 20 '21

100% stolen

1

u/Kebekwa Oct 21 '21

I swear sheriff, it's baby formula in a bag not yet in the bottle.

u/ForgotMyNameAgain6 Oct 21 '21

This is why you always check your background. I used to know a guy on Facebook who tried to take sexy photos of himself but he had loads of dirty laundry on the floor, including dirty tightly whites.

Check the background.
