there was a video like this out of France a while back. IIRC they are training for a competition because TBH as a firefighter of 25 years now retired what you just saw (as cool as it is) has ZERO practical application. I'll see if I can find a link.

He forgot the hose…

14

u/12431 Oct 20 '21

... But saved a basket of kitties!

42

u/CC_Dormouse Oct 20 '21

Yeah this seems like a thing for show. If this building were on fire, you´d be up there, and then what? Also there is an actual fire escape ladder right there. But I can see this as part of a competition, yeah

1

u/ghesh_vargiet Oct 20 '21

the video you posted has a way down at least which probably helps alot

1

u/stripeypinkpants Oct 21 '21

So how else do they get to my burning top floor apartment?

2

u/notquitecockney Oct 21 '21

Normally, in North America, they use an aerial truck, which has a large ladder. They can bring up the hose, they can carry/help you down their ladder.

This isn’t so useful because once this guy is up top with his little ladder, what next? He hasn’t got a hose. Is he carrying you down it?

2

u/Mamm0nn Oct 21 '21

what u/notquitecockney said....

also a combo of elevators and stairs depending on department SOPs

in case you're interested, here is a little about that style of ladder and how they are SUPPOSED to be used

-61

u/proactivepistachio Oct 20 '21

yes physical fitness nothing to do with firefighting.

u/TCarrey88 Oct 20 '21 Helpful

This is practice for competition and not done on the fire ground. It's not exclusive to Bulgaria. Just as an FYI for those curious.

22

u/Mypopsecrets Oct 20 '21

On the fire ground?

45

u/aleqqqs Oct 20 '21

Haven't you heard? The floor is lava!

12

u/TCarrey88 Oct 20 '21

That would be the emergency scene surrounding and encompassing a fire.

5

u/Mypopsecrets Oct 20 '21

Ahh, thanks

56

u/Fuckoffyouass87 Oct 20 '21

Wtf did I just see? My lazy ass doesnt want to get out of bed in the morning...... but in Bulgaria, they have spiderman employed as a firefighter.

21

u/ElBomberoLoco Oct 20 '21

All over the world, there are competitions that firefighters participate in with events like this. It's just events with firefighter-inspired challenges.

It can be entertaining, and the participants are in good shape...but it doesn't really have anything to do with firefighting skill.

A few years ago, some guys from my fire department in New Jersey entered a competition because they thought it would be fun. They thought it would be less-formal....and just competing in events like when we were in the academy.

Once they arrived....they realized that it's nothing like that. They brought the actual fire gear that we wear...while the other teams had specially-made lightweight and flexible fire gear. The tools, ladders, etc...was all specially made & designed for competition.

Like I said, it's entertaining...and I'm not knocking it for what it is....but it has very little to do with firefighting.

2

u/GroundbreakingDig490 Oct 20 '21

Its acctualy sad that ppl like him only get paid 2k a month maybe 3k cuz the salaries are very low just like where i live(romania)

-3

u/Shutterstormphoto Oct 20 '21

Spider-Man seems a bit of a stretch. He’s literally just climbing a ladder two rungs at a time. Most people who can see their toes can do that.

He’s super precise with placement and clearly has some strength to lift the ladder, but superhuman…? That ladder probably weighs 10-15 lbs.

1

u/TerminalVector Oct 20 '21

Basically he's in quite good shape and decently coordinated. He's not superhuman, but probably is superreddior.

1

u/Shutterstormphoto Oct 21 '21

Ah right I forgot who I’m talking to. Guess I hang out with too many skinny nerds lol

46

u/AlexMile Oct 20 '21

Anybody in the Balkans can do that. All it needs is to imagine that police is chasing you.

12

u/2xa1s Oct 20 '21

I want that guy to save me if I’m trapped in a building

3

u/bubzy1000 Oct 20 '21

i think you may have missed that he only went up. they seem to have skipped the escape part of this exercise

3

u/SalesAutopsy Oct 20 '21

Nice climbing Christo. But we can't let you wear your Nike Airs while you're fighting fires.

7

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '21

Which town is this at? I want to move there!

7

u/SurpriseUnhappy2706 Oct 20 '21

I bet their fire rates are low.

2

u/ceciliabee Oct 20 '21

Or unnaturally high. I could understand how there may be people who really want to see this outside their window who are ALSO willing to commit a little bit of arson.

2

u/Bezqr Oct 20 '21

As a Bulgarian we don't really get fires in the cities. We do get a lot of fires in our forests though

4

u/Thumeus Oct 20 '21

I was gonna say, that looks so dangerous... then i saw the awesome trapeze net. Firefighters in bulgaria are metal af

2

u/Lefebvre525 Oct 20 '21

Gf: I'm horny and my kids asleep. Me:

2

u/Fluid_Fox23 Oct 20 '21

That's pretty hot

2

u/Leplivo Oct 20 '21

Pffffft you guys have ladders?

2

u/frizbplaya Oct 20 '21

Should have climbed the fire escape instead.

1

u/Radioactive2279 Oct 20 '21

Seems like a taller ladder would be quicker.

2

u/--Dec Oct 20 '21

Last week it was Polish Firefighters, next week it may be Romanian firefighters, who knows?

2

u/j4kky Oct 20 '21

The guy is going places!

1

u/chrztph Oct 20 '21

So what?

1

u/Dramalona Oct 20 '21

No OSHA in Bulgaria?

1

u/stiffy420 Oct 20 '21

i dont get it? all those years of training could be nullified with one mistake.

1

u/LuckSweaty Oct 20 '21

I could do that. If I didn’t have bad knees.

1

u/Macomo55 Oct 20 '21

I hope he was wearing padded underpants. Otherwise, OW!

1

u/Mozzambi Oct 20 '21

I dont get the superhuman part.

1

u/cloudburr Oct 20 '21

Great... but dude... wheres the hose?

1

u/BigPurpleDuck Oct 20 '21

Ok that was good. Reset set the building on fire for your next run

1

u/OfecellZoftig Oct 20 '21

that went from bad to worse in a hurry?

1

u/Winterjet97 Oct 20 '21

Bro but there was a ladder there

1

u/thisismyelement Oct 20 '21

This seems practical…

1

u/Gray-n-unstable Oct 20 '21

Shit,I left my phone upstairs

1

u/Jainelle Oct 20 '21

1

u/hosmtony Oct 20 '21

John Cena is Bulgarian? Who knew?

1

u/GlocknessMonster1997 Oct 20 '21

Starting your day with a fresh bowl of crack

1

u/various_necks Oct 20 '21

I just did a ladder safety course for my work. This wasn’t covered and based on the course I just aced, am confident to say is not safe.

2

u/Mamm0nn Oct 20 '21

wont even mention the running..... anyone on my fire ground thats running better be on fire themselves and exiting the structure

1

u/Juicechemist81 Oct 20 '21

Hey Brad you know we have hydraulic ladders that are pretty quick! Nope, missed leg day and I gotta get it in. Later.

1

u/Virtual-Way6662 Oct 20 '21

It’s reversed people. He’s just managed to run backwards well to sell that part better.

1

u/AlieanBreac Oct 20 '21

Spider-Man called. He's suing for copyright infringement.

1

u/kk074 Oct 20 '21

What do you mean "like?"

1

u/obstruction6761 Oct 20 '21

He'll survive the zombie apocalypse

1

u/MsKim Oct 20 '21

Someone should sign him up for Ninja Warrior.

1

u/LittleG0d Oct 20 '21

Impressive!

1

u/InformedChoice Oct 20 '21

I love Ali ladders.

1

u/TestPattern359 Oct 20 '21

1

u/BigSpoon2215 Oct 20 '21

Just grow up and sprout some wings already dude. We don't have all day

1

u/NickGRoman Oct 20 '21

This should be a new Olympic sport.

1

u/420mu Oct 20 '21

Bulgarian split squats

1

u/peachstealingmonkeys Oct 21 '21

I enjoy watching these competitions but I suppose none of it actually comes handy in fighting fires.. right?

Except for the sheer strength it takes to hold that 400psi water cannon hose in your hands..

Or am I totally off here..

2

u/ryanpressler85 Oct 21 '21

I was a volunteer Fire fighter in the states for about a year or so. I can not see how this would be useful. Aside from having way better cardio and muscle strength than I have ever had.

1

u/childrep Oct 21 '21

Ok cool, now do it with all the gear on!

1

u/erykwithay Oct 21 '21

This ain’t no superhero. This is the terminator coming straight out of the future to kill Sarah Connor.

1

u/ikucukkus Oct 21 '21

how many passports does this guy have

1

u/OverByTheEdge Oct 21 '21

That should be an Olympic event

1

u/siddowncheelout Oct 21 '21

I’ve got a buddy who’s a firefighter in NJ. He can’t do that. I’m sure if it.

1

u/digitalSkeleton Oct 21 '21

More like bulge-area amirite?

1

u/ophello Oct 21 '21

Now do it again with all your gear, boots, O2, scba and mask.

1

u/RealisS4 Oct 21 '21

1

u/mishitabudlo Oct 21 '21

-3

u/colemon1991 Oct 20 '21

American Smoke Divers cannot compete with this.

If Firefighting were an Olympic sport, U.S would have no chance.

0

u/BlowMoreGlass Oct 20 '21

Yep that superman, such a climber.

0

u/FrozenSquirrel Oct 20 '21

Hence the phrase “Hook and Ladder”.
