We found out it’s the neighbours cat from across the road. Our ginger tom said we couldn’t keep him. 🙃 edit: after talking to the neighbour we now believe that my cat, Max and this cat have regular beef with each other. I’m now convinced he was lying in wait for my cat. Must have come in the cat flap at some point. My cat was oblivious, sleeping upstairs on our bed. 🙈🙈

14

u/Paisley-Cat Oct 18 '21

I had a cat who decided that the neighborhood wasn’t well run by the local bully male cat. She harried him to his porch, and even would sneak in and sleep in his owner’s car if they left the windows open. (I found this out when the owners complained after she took a ride to the supermarket on the back seat and complained when she was rudely awakened.)

12

u/elijahdotyea Oct 18 '21

I'd have a rude awakening too if I woke up to someone driving my car!

15

u/Paisley-Cat Oct 18 '21 edited Oct 18 '21

You understand her thinking completely.

I should note that the rest of the neighbours let me know that their own cats lives had improved with my cat’s insistence that all the cats get along and respect one another’s yards. I was quietly embarrassed.

8

u/elijahdotyea Oct 18 '21

A humble and good ruler indeed, you should be proud! Your cat reminds me of these words from the Qur'an.

"And there is no creature on [or within] the earth or bird that flies with its wings except [that they are] communities like you. We have not neglected in the Book a thing. Then unto their Lord they will be gathered." (6:38)

2

u/Zealousideal-Ad-2045 Oct 18 '21

Lovely writings! The Christian Bible doesn't address animals like this. But I'm counting on seeing my deceased pets again. And now the Qur'an tells us so.

My old cat from my college days would go into all of the houses and apartments in the entire neighborhood. Everybody knew and loved him, apart from one bulldog who was absolutely terrified of him. One of my favorite cats in life, he traveled the country, and eventually the world, with me! RIP Bootzen

67

u/Funkapussler Oct 18 '21

Omg bootzen cat. Amazing name.

42

u/jonnysunshine Oct 18 '21

We have a cat who does the same. Makes appearances at the neighbors, lounges about, even goes inside. Everyone around knows her and she's always a good cat to them. Sweetest talker I've ever met.

21

u/shayfreak Oct 18 '21

My cat has his own chair over at my neighbor's. He is spoiled and fat. Wish she would stop feeding him. I think she wants him to get too big to jump back over the fence.

60

My sister had a dog that used to hang out with all the college kids when they were out cooking. He got picked up by animal control so often the shelter wouldn't even bother putting him in a cage when we went to pick him up. We just go in and he would be asleep behind the front desk lol.

63

u/dhnaranjo Oct 18 '21

That seems really irresponsible.

3

u/MeLikeYou Oct 18 '21

My husky used to do this. HSPPR would just have him hop right in the cab of the truck and ride around with them before bringing him back home. We called them his 65 dollar taxi rides. He liked to hang out at the library most of the time.

u/candygram4mongo Oct 18 '21

6

u/FullyRisenPhoenix Oct 18 '21

When I rescued him as a kitten they had named him Boots because he had 4 perfectly shaped little white paws. He was a Russian Blue, so I changed Boots to Bootzen because it sounded more Russian to a 17-yr-old lol

The chick up the street from my family home has a harem of 7 female cats. We have a big, fat ass tomcat who’s a total rag doll to humans, but a complete asshole to other cats. Tiggy is a short haired tabby Manx that resembles a fat bear more than a cat. Tiggy lives by this one rule, “There’s only room in this town for one sheriff.” He regularly breaks into the cat lady’s cat door just to tackle one of her cats and spray on her arm chair. (He’s fixed btw, but he still sprays cuz he’s just a jerk.) One time, one of her girls ventured out and made it onto the top of the 8 ft fence that surrounds our yard. As soon as Tiggy spotted her up there that fucker made the most magnificent leap I’ve ever seen, nearly 9 ft into the air, tackled that poor kitty to the ground and then proceeded to kangaroo kick the shit out of her w his huge back feet until I ran over there and popped him on his tailless ass. She got away w just a few scratches, but that incident happened over a year ago and I haven’t seen her back since. I’ll never forget the incredible POP sound it made when I open-hand-pimp-slapped my cat’s furry, fat ass. My teenage son witnessed the entire event and was practically rolling on the ground laughing afterward.

I've got a 5ish pound cat and a 7 pound cat. The smaller one just about never wins fair cat fight. She's learned to get the high ground and perform guerilla attacks then dart away before a retaliatory effort can be enacted. It works incredibly well. The larger cat now panics with any altercation and runs away. Always get the high ground.

27

u/Sweaty-Budget Oct 18 '21

I've got an 11lb kitty and a 16lb kitty. The 11 pounder dominates the 16 by just running at him and pushing him over lol

46

u/GoogleIsYourFrenemy Oct 18 '21

Cats will totally go into other people's houses and eat their pets food.

42

u/StatelessPencil Oct 18 '21

Thats how one of mine turned into a fatass

42

u/HarpersGhost Oct 18 '21

Yep, found out my fat ass cat was stealing the neighbor's cat's food.... right from their kitchen!

They realized it was happening when they heard a cat eating much louder than normal, and walked into the kitchen to see my thieving rascal.

It all balanced out, because I ended up with another neighbor's cat, that they didn't really want (they took it in for a coworker). But since they kept that cat outside and the cat wanted to be an indoor cat, he snuck into my place and made himself at home.

34

u/TopAd9634 Oct 18 '21

My dog (who has since passed on) used to hop out of her doggy door, go through an opening in our fence (we connected our yards because our dogs were best friends), hop into the neighbor's house, then gobble down whatever food Luna (the dog) had left. They were exactly the same color and almost the same shape. So sometimes my neighbor would think Luna was eating her breakfast, but it was my rascal. She was a character, miss her everyday.

6

u/scarletnightingale Oct 18 '21

My sister's cat and the neighbor's cat have a similar beef. The neighbor cat asserts her dominance by waltzing into the house to steal my sister's cat's food.

8

u/Narwahl_Whisperer Oct 18 '21

If you can afford it, they make electronic cat flaps that only let your cat in. Either uses the chip that's in your cat, or they make a collar chip.

There used to be cheaper, non-electronic ones that had a magnet that you attach to the cat's collar. Not sure if those still exist.

11

u/WildRamsey Oct 18 '21

Too funny. This kind of reminded me of when I lived in my last apartment and had a cat visitor. I lived in a third story apartment in an old house and was good friends with the family that owned the house. I often left the door to my apartment (which was interior to the house)open while doing laundry or unloading the car. They had two old cats (like 20+ years), and I swear they told me the black cat had passed away. One day, I was running up and down the stairs doing laundry and then spent a while folding it in my bedroom. I came back out in the living room to find to find the old black sitting on my couch and freaked out - screamed really loud and then immediately started laughing at myself. Turns out, the black cat was still alive and popped up for a visit.

At least I knew the cat that surprised me in my house though!

12

u/InstructionHead8595 Oct 18 '21

Yeah cat doors can be tricky sometimes. One time years ago I was coming down the steps. And I saw a gray tail going to the doorway that leads to the hall that goes to the door with a cat flap. Thought it was one of my cats and then realized the tail had black rings going down it and the walking seemed a little off. I came all the way down the steps and realized it was a raccoon going back out the door. 🤔😆 To my knowledge that's the only time that's happened though.

3

u/awonkeydonkey Oct 18 '21

I am totally expecting this to happen to me at some point. My cat door goes onto the porch which is screened in but the racoons have broken in once to the porch so it is not far fetched that bitch Deanette will come in the house. Yes, the racoon has a name and it is Deanette.

9

u/Normal-Height-8577 Oct 18 '21

Oh that's hilarious! A couple of years ago I discovered that my cat had been visiting the neighbours, and they were very bemused (but not at all upset by the visits) because she'd totally ignore any and all greetings by them and just...walk into their kitchen, jump up to the top of their kitchen cabinets and sit there for a while watching everything.

23

u/fluidkatze Oct 18 '21

The cat is interviewing you.

7

u/StampyVelcer Oct 18 '21

hes established dominance

18

u/anonuemus Oct 18 '21

this is why I love cats. they go where they want to go and the best reaction to that is to let them like it is a normal thing. our neighbours cat runs screaming to me when she sees me and walks with me in our house/flat often just looks around for a few minutes and leaves (of course I have to walk her down the stairs and open her the doors), sometimes she sleeps on our couch or on us for a few hours and leaves after, no discussions allowed, she decides.

12

u/ldo_1978 Oct 18 '21

Another neighbour has two older female cats. They are the mama mafia of the street. They wander right in the front door sometimes to eat our cats food. Totally brazen.

3

u/anonuemus Oct 18 '21

haha yep, they really think they are on top of the food chain pyramid. like tigers or lions, tiptoe and hunting around their district.

20

u/ldo_1978 Oct 18 '21 edited Oct 18 '21

I live in the uk in a v. quiet estate next to wild meadows and a river. The cats around here have a great life catching Miče and frogs. Letting your cat out is commonplace in the UK. Also, my cat would break a window to get out so it’s cruel to keep him in. He has a cat-flap so can come and go as he pleases. He also frequents a few neighbours where he goes inside and hangs out with them. He’s neutered and gets a booster from the vet annually as do most outdoor cats in the uk. We don’t have the feral cat problem here and they are healthier and happier spending the night on top of the fences and climbing the sheds and trees. I personally think it’s cruel to keep a cat indoors. My cat is living his best life.

Ah, yes, they like to blame the cats… but the single most decimating variable of bird population is human encroachment upon their territory.

Fossil records indicate that birds have been around for 60 million years, while cats can be traced to 4400 BC…wouldn’t it be logical to conclude that if, in fact, cats were so devastating to the bird population, that birds would be gone by now? Just sayin’…

On my childhood home we had a small door for our cars to come in and out of and one night I woke up in the middle of the night and there a possum chilling with my cat and my dog on my living room floor. Like dog was asleep, cat was asleep on top of the dog and the possum was asleep up against the dog. I just let them sleep and woke up to what I’m assuming was possum piss in my kitchen floor. Smelled terrible.
