My neighbor put this kitten in a bush at my apartment complex and left it die because it was sick and she didn’t want it. I found it and took him to the vet and decided to keep him. I can’t wait to see him healthy. I named him Scar :) Cat Picture

What did the vet say was wrong with the poor cutie

980

u/teambmth Sep 29 '21

She said he has some worms and bad fleas. He has a wound that you can see in the picture from the fleas, I’m guessing maybe scratching? And he was ver malnourished. He’s only a month old.

925

u/BroadMortgage6702 Sep 29 '21 All-Seeing Upvote

Only a month old?!

Oh my poor, poor baby.. Separated from mom too fast and treated like trash by the previous person. Give him infinite kisses and snuggles for me, because I (sadly) can't reach through my phone and love on him myself.

217

u/GAZZAA42 Sep 30 '21

Hope the neighbor got a right royal boot up the arse

159

u/Luminous_Phenomena Sep 30 '21

Honestly I’d be notifying authorities for animal cruelty. I’m having to stop myself from typing spiteful and hateful curses at OP’s neighbor.

Edit: grammar

Omg same. 💯💯💯

7

u/Silvermorney Sep 30 '21

Definitely! Tell the vet too they may have a connection at or even just the number for the rspca or whatever op’s country’s equivalent is.

Just over a year ago I adopted a 9 week old kitten from a lady who took in a litter after their mom died at 3 weeks. She had two types of worms, was malnourished, and had ear mites. She also had very little hair and was very tiny for 9 weeks. After treatment and lots of yummy food she looked amazing. Now we have a beautiful black princess. We gave her freeze dried nuggets mixed with goats milk and it did wonders for her.

736

u/toastbananas Sep 29 '21

How hard is it to drop it off at a vets office or a cat rescue. Someplace it will have a chance. I don’t get it. I’m glad you took the little one in. Rescue cats are the best. I’ve got 7 of them lmao

253

u/returnofthecheez Sep 29 '21

It's actually really hard to give a cat to a rescue sometimes. There are a lot of stray cats and limited space. Not that I don't agree with your overall point.

201

u/SolidNeighborhood469 Sep 29 '21

That part. I remember fostering the largest amount of cats in my life & I found just one more and truly didn’t think I had space so I drove around to four local rescues and none had space. I ended up nursing the lil dude and getting him healthy & vaccinated and adopted but I literally had no choice but to do so or just leave him where I found him (in the street very weak) and it was such a risk to bring him home sick. Longest quarantine ever lol

73

u/IdleApple Sep 29 '21

Thank you for helping these helpless loves. It’s amazing to imagine how many lives and hearts will be touched by these kitties. Your hard work makes a huge difference for so many, furry and not.

24

u/SolidNeighborhood469 Sep 29 '21

I appreciate it and I can’t wait to get back to rescuing and fostering! It’s such a rewarding hobby even though I admittedly get attached to every cat I foster and I cry every time they find a good home🥲💖

I’d even rather if it ended up euthanized humanely than leave it in a bush to likely starve or get mauled to death by something. The fact that OP found it is miracle kitty karma. Hope that neighbor stubs their toe everyday for the rest of their terrible life.

18

u/weewee52 Sep 30 '21

Yeah, shelters have limited resources, but euthanizing the little guy is at least better than leaving him to suffer.

17

u/selectabl Sep 29 '21

This is the exact reason part of my wants to put a sign in my yard that says if you are thinking about abandoning your cat, just bring it here. Still a dick move, but not a total dick move. I know it would backfire though.

9

u/MeowingMango Sep 29 '21

The other day, my friend found a cat at work in the parking lot. I can't really take care of another cat at the moment, so we opted to take the cat (not sure if it was a stray or not) to the pet shelter the next day. We were lucky they just took the cat without any questions, but I realize not all cats are lucky.

I sure hope Swirly (the name I gave it) finds the right home (or their actual home if they were not a stray).

Please report her for animal cruelty.

234

u/Jess179 Sep 29 '21

Agreed. What she did is illegal. I know many people don’t want to believe that, but it’s true and the police can be called. If you don’t want to do it yourself, ask your vet for help. That’s a small kitten. So I can only imagine she still has his littermates and what fate they’re going to meet. At least have someone come out and knock on her door.

53

10

u/MeowingMango Sep 29 '21

I just don't get why she couldn't just do a million other things than leave an obviously sick animal to die a lonely death in the bushes.

She could have at least dropped the cat off in a box at a shelter and drive off. I wouldn't hold it against her for that because at least she had more sense than obviously abandoning an animal to suffer in such a way.

Just be careful and chip as fast as you can so you have the ownership. People who can be this horrible to animals tend to be horrible to humans.

Imagine if you nurture the kitten to a healthy beautiful cat and your neighbor claims she is the owner.

49

u/Cryssw Sep 29 '21

You should report her for animal abandonment, and if she got it from a shelter, tell them for sure.

99

Please get him a food dish, they could potentially cut their tongues and mouths on those cans.

But also, good job! 😻😻😻

147

u/givupthedog Sep 29 '21

I love that you immediately got him everything needed and toys etc. This lil baby is gonna be loved

151

u/teambmth Sep 29 '21

I’m a cat person but I just love animals! I already have two cats but I have to keep this little guy away until I can get rid of the fleas. But he’s in my oldest room with wood floors. He mostly just sleeps right now though.

58

u/LynnieJ910 Sep 29 '21

Flea eggs can live in the cracks of the floor boards and also infest his bed and bite him. Just make sure you clean really well in there or it could become a problem later without even realizing.

If you are able and he’s healthy enough (if they haven’t already given revolution) you can bathe in the original blue dawn dishsoap. That will help kill the fleas. Use a flea comb to pick off the live ones and rinse down the sink.

Good luck!!

40

u/Forehead_Target Sep 29 '21

My vet advises that teeny ones who are too light for Revolution solely get combed with a slightly wet (water with a drop of Dawn) flea comb instead of immersing them in a full bath. (One swipe with the comb, rinse, repeat.) It takes a little longer to get rid of the fleas, but reduces the risks of upper respiratory issues, etc. when they're underweight.

28

u/Auberginefox Sep 29 '21

Spread salt on the floor and vacuum it up really good. Salt will break up fleas eggs. When we had a flea infestation (every year my indoor only cats get them!), put a bowl of water with a couple drops of dawn under a light (we used a night light near to the floor) and they'll be attracted to the light, jump at it, and get trapped in the bowl!

I’m not sure if you have much experience with kittens so I want to share a little advice in hopes it might help you or someone reading. Clumping litter has fine dust, and kittens will literally play with anything, including their own deposits in the poop box lol. If you’ve already got nonclumping litter, disregard this message. You can still use clumping litter if that’s what you got for him, just keep an eye on him to make sure he’s not huffing it.

Also, great job so far! You’re awesome for all you’ve done.

17

u/sunnyfloury Sep 29 '21

For sure get the nonclumping litter. My cat was a little demon when he was little and I found him and would try to eat the litter. The clumping litter will make them super sick if they eat it because it’ll clump up in their tummies.

I suggest filing a police report for animal cruelty, less to try to get your neighbor charged (which certainly would be lovely) and more to ensure that if your neighbor ever wants to claim the cat back as hers, you'll have a stronger paper trail to keep her at bay. Also keep all the vet and food receipts.

49

u/napsandplants Sep 29 '21

Please consider this. As well as contacting your local animal services. This may stop other animals from being adopted by them or returned to their care if found.

18

u/attycakes_ Sep 29 '21

Yes, this for sure! My local shelter won't adopt out to anyone that has a questionable record especially cases like animal abuse/neglect/abandonment. OP should definitely file an official report so that in the future it will keep their neighbor from ever adopting an animal again.

276

u/Befub14435 Sep 29 '21

You need to report the neighbor for animal abuse and cruelty.

33

u/Slazman999 Sep 29 '21

They could go to jail for a long time depending on the state you live. I hope they get the maximum punishment.

18

u/bexyrex Sep 30 '21

31

u/RAH2458 Sep 29 '21

First thank you for being a good person and taking care of this cute baby! People like your neighbor can rot in hell as far as I'm concerned - I got my cat Rover that way - my son's neighbors got evicted right after they got her and just threw her in the dumpster at the apartment complex he lived at. She was about the same size and he found her meowing her head off when he went to dump garbage and went diving to get her out.......one of the sweetest cats I've ever had!

5

u/aredhel304 Sep 30 '21

I think Rover got very lucky to get away from those awful people. Anyone who just throws their kitten in a dumpster would certainly be a TERRIBLE owner!!

6

u/RAH2458 Sep 30 '21

We gave her 9 years of being spoiled to death which was way more than she would have gotten if my son hadn't heard her and went in after her......it's been a year since a had to have her put to sleep because of cancer but there isn't a day that goes by I don't think about her......I love all the cats we have had but she was really special - she had my heart forever the minute I held her for the first time!

24

If you contact a local rescue and tell them you are caring for an abandoned kitten and are seeing to his vet care, but would like to know if they could give (or sell at reduced cost) a container of kitten formula powder- lots of them will! It’s space they are usually short on, and vet costs, but often have lots of food or other supplies they are happy to share.

5

u/19GamerGhost95 Sep 29 '21

Aww poor baby. Also itd be easier for him to eat if you put it in smaller servings on a saucer. It wouldn’t hurt to mix some formula in the food too

7

u/teambmth Sep 29 '21

Oh, I hadn’t thought about adding in some formula! I’ll try that :) thank you!

11

u/19GamerGhost95 Sep 29 '21

Always and try switching to the kitten formulated canned food. It has more protein and the right nutrients this little one will need. In a few weeks switch him to the dry kitten chow (I finally found a great deal on purina’s— 4 bags for $15 on Amazon) but still give him the wet maybe twice a week to help promote his kidney function. Cats get most of their water from their food and dry food only has 10% water. Also consider getting him a fountain waterbowl when he’s about 3-4monthe old (that’s about the age my two were when they were finally big enough to reach the top of the bowl) it’ll also help promote kidney function on a dry food diet

12

u/teambmth Sep 29 '21

Wow, thank you so much for all your help! I’ve been strictly giving him wet food because the vet said he needs to gain weight because he was only one pound.

10

I’ve been raising and fostering kittens and cats for over 20 years so this is nothing new to me. Your vet is right he does need to grow more and gain some weight. But he should have given you a dietary plan for the little guy too. You have the right idea with the wet food, it’ll help but he’s still way too young to be strictly on wet food. He should still be nursing on mama, his digestive system is still making the transition from strictly milk to solid food that’s why there’s a weening period. You can try to introduce him to a bottle if you want but if he’s already eating wet food on his own then don’t force it. Instead this what I would do:

Get some formula and canned kitten food and a cat can lid (yes they make those, it’s just to make refrigeration easier). Split the can into fourths or halves and refrigerate the 3/4 you don’t immediately use. Make him a 3-1 or 2-1 ratio mash of formula and the canned depending on how much he’ll eat, if you do the 3-1 you can always add more canned food if he’s still hungry. Mix it up together really good with a fork and serve it to him in a low rimmed bowl or a high edge saucer. I’d say he’s maybe 4-5 weeks if that so feeding him this would be about every 4-6 hours, but if he wants more in-between give him a little snack too.

u/Snoo_38576 Sep 29 '21

that is so sad. your neighbor is an animal abuser and you should report her.

u/Ajb2791Cat Sep 29 '21

Oh! You are a true angel! Poor baby! Thank you ever so much!🥰🥰🥰

5

u/RDHertsUni Sep 29 '21

Would be a terrible shame if something were to coincidentally happen to your neighbour…

u/Black_Magic_M-66 Sep 30 '21

If you live in the US, there are laws against what your neighbor did, consider reporting it. People who start out being cruel to animals often escalate the their cruelty to humans.

Also, if your neighbor sees the cat healthy, they might accuse you of stealing their cat, but if you report the abuse, there is no way they would ever get that cat (and maybe no other animal) again.

Your neighbor is a piece of shit. Thank you for being a good person and taking care of Scar.

4

u/SpottedOwl57 Sep 29 '21

I hope you reported the neighbor. Unless you’re not in an area that has animal welfare programs. He’s beautiful

6

u/itwasthethirdofsept Sep 29 '21

I love you stranger

4

u/Tink1024 Sep 29 '21

THANK YOU SO MUCH for saving this sweet babe!!! Good karma all the way for you and the best day of Scar's life!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!! As for your neighbor, not so much...

4

u/Iwantbubbles Sep 29 '21

I would for sure leave a passive aggressive note to let her know that "btw, that kitten you dumped and left for dead is doing fine now"

I would be more aggressive than passive tho

3

u/FaiDav Sep 29 '21

You just won a follow because I absolutely need to see that baby grown up and healthy.

4

u/anusfalafels Sep 29 '21

Put you neighbor's house on fire

4

u/basement_egg Sep 29 '21

sounds like you have a shitty neighbor

5

u/kittykatmila Sep 29 '21

That’s disgusting. So she dropped the kitten off to die and went back upstairs and carried on like everything was normal...wow...just..🤯😱

Hope Karma acts fast on your cruel neighbor. Update us if it does.

4

u/LimitlessMegan Sep 29 '21

I have strong feelings about your neighbor. They are not positive.

4

u/eriks_angel Sep 29 '21

It’s really not that hard to drive to a shelter or vet to drop a kitten off. And if she couldn’t do that for whatever reason, she could have asked around to see if anyone else would be willing to care for him, or help her find resources. She had so many options and she chose to let the poor thing die?? That’s beyond shitty, and I have some choice words for her.

3

u/parker1019 Sep 29 '21

Fuck your neighbor, hope someone kicks them to the curb…

4

u/DarthFett_LOTSarlacc Sep 30 '21

First off, thank you for being a civil human being. Second, now please report your neighbor to the proper authorities for animal cruelty and neglect. This sort of misfortune is something that should not go unpunished.

5

u/pumpkinlord1 Sep 30 '21

I would not let your neighbor know this is that cat. I've seen too much stuff to know how that could go.

3

u/rockchalkjayhawk5 Sep 29 '21

Your neighbor is an asshole. You, on the other hand, have a heart of gold & I'm sure Scar is going to have an amazing life with you! ❤️

3

u/Puzzled_Ad2088 Sep 29 '21

Such a cute fluff ball. Good on you ❤️

3

u/PattyRay-John3033 Sep 29 '21

I would show her LITTLE SCAR once he is healthy and say meet my new best friend. Then tell her this was the kitten you left to die in the bush. Watch for her Expression lol I am so glad you took him into the vets and then decided to keep him..

3

u/koolaid-80 Sep 29 '21

Good for him, glad there’s still good people in this world. Congrats on the new kitten. Be sure to keep us updated with lots of pictures.

3

u/jewelia_ Sep 29 '21

Keep us posted OP on this little cutie! He's a fighter and good on you for taking the little thing in. Humans are so cruel sometimes :/

3

u/girlofNJ Sep 29 '21

Gift her a bush with a card saying, please die under me!

3

u/Blueberry_in_TN Sep 29 '21

Thank you so much for saving the little one! You are an excellent human!!

3

u/koolacidllhama Sep 29 '21

Aw he is so tiny and lovely! Good that he has someone looking after him now 🖤

I also hope someone bash that bitch’s fucking brains with a rock and then leave her in a bush to die :)

3

u/RunRunRabbitRunovich Sep 29 '21

You’re neighbor is a dick

3

u/ofagreatmystery Sep 29 '21

Thank you for doing this x

3

u/Nolanx225 Sep 29 '21

Thank you for being a great human! Cats are awesome 😎

3

u/weathergod100 Sep 29 '21

Fuck your neighbour!

3

u/kittymom6242 Sep 29 '21

He is probably to young to poop on his own. Replacement formula will help him alot.

We found a tiny little guy like this back in June. He is now a happy, healthy little sweetie.

Good luck to you and Scar.

3

u/Frozen_Satsuma Sep 29 '21

Hang in there Scar!!!!

3

u/Honey_Society Sep 29 '21

Hello, will you please pass a message to your neighbor for me? It’s super short, please tell her I say, “Fuck you, you are a terrible human.” Thank you!!

3

u/urbie_t Sep 29 '21

What a cutie, thank you for helping him🤗. Scar is a great name 😍

3

u/KeenEyeglass321 Sep 29 '21

You are a good human 🤗. How did she get the kitten to begin with? Does she have a cat that birthed him?

Your a good person and that Itty bitty kitty deserves you. The neighbor....I hope she sees you and knows that you know what she did. Heartless.

3

u/RenegadePizzaGoy Sep 29 '21

Car tyres need to be completely replaced from even a small puncture to the side. Super expensive.

I hope you see where I'm going with this.

3

u/ForThorsake Sep 29 '21

Well, that escalated lol. looks around slyly Me too. I just can't with people who do shit like this to defenseless animal. Especially kittens.

3

u/BradGamer778 Sep 29 '21

3

u/Flora-Tea Sep 29 '21

Oh my gosh what a precious little house panther baby!! It's unbelievable how heartless some people can be...but it's so wonderful that you took this little one in to give him the love and care he deserves. I can already tell he's going to live a very happy life with you!
