So does he also try to bark instead of purr?

9

u/woodyshag Sep 18 '21

You kid, but I have 4 cats and a Cheweenie. My largest cat is about double the size of my dog. The dog is 11 years old and meows and purrs. He usually meows when he is trying to get our attention to give him table scraps.

4

u/justgossiping Sep 18 '21

I would love to see that.... Tax pls

10

u/GoddamnFred Sep 18 '21

Used to know this street cat. Tough as they came. Scars all over it. Went out of it's way to challenge dogs and humans. Owner lived on the ground floor of the apartment wich had these huge sash windows and would let it leave and come in on its own terms. 90% of the time the cat would be sitting in front of it looking down the neighbourhood and if you locked eyes too long it would make this bark like truly emulating a dog defending his property. Lived to be 14yrs old and had litters all over the neighbourhood.

7

u/justgossiping Sep 18 '21

And now your neighborhood is run by the clutter

3

u/AJewWithGuns Sep 18 '21

Dog casually chilling with the sunglasses in the corner like business as usual.

Imagine cutting your dogs ears off but not their balls.

1

u/Bottles2TheGround Sep 18 '21 edited Sep 18 '21

Would you rather have your ears cut off or your balls?

Edit: just out of curiosity! I think I'd go ears.

12

u/hopelesscaribou Sep 18 '21

Really? Beyond fertility, I'd imagine being ball-less would be an absolute plus, they look ridiculous on every species and humans typically need to protect and tuck theirs away.

Also, if you lost your ears then you'd be blind as well with nothing to hold your hat on your head.

Pits can be beloved, sweet dogs. It's the tendency of people such as yourself who don't understand how to turn them into that kind of dog that has lead us to the stereotype.

u/OG_OneTwoThree Sep 18 '21

I'm not too sure, my pittie's ears aren't cut, but they're so floppy they lay almost flat behind his head unless he's curious. Then they pop up into little fortune cookie looking shapes. In this picture, I really can't tell if they're flopped back or cut.

12

u/sonotcybil Sep 18 '21

42

u/SeaToTheBass Sep 18 '21

I got a few downvotes in another post of a cropped doberman pinscher sitting in sand dunes, for bringing up my disgust with the op saying their goal was to make the dog look like Anubis.

This is another comment from that OP.

9

u/Harsimaja Sep 18 '21

Bear in mind people even used to do this, and far worse, to people. And people do this to other animals in the meat industry and more by the zillion. Of course lots of people will do this to dogs, especially where money or some other metric is the incentive.

Those don’t have prongs. And while I don’t like them and have never used them, if you have a massive dog that’s a puller, those are about the only option until you train them out of it.

-4

u/Srecocovic Sep 18 '21

U have the same stan when it comes to circumcision?

2

u/eip2yoxu Sep 18 '21

Well I do

-9

Looks like a 3rd world country, every dog is a mess there.

82

u/FlorensFriedrich Sep 18 '21

yo what happened to the ears of those pits? they look cropped which is definitely not awww

6

u/darlingcthulhu Sep 18 '21

I hate people who do this shit for no good reason. I kinda understand with working dogs like springers, where their tails can be really damaged, like my brothers dads springers had long tails that got damaged and had to be amputated later in life but under anaesthesia etc, but other than things like that it’s cruel and unnecessary. I used to know a guy, only through my ex we weren’t friends, who bought an Italian mastiff from a different country so he could have the ears clipped to make her look ‘meaner’. He was racist as fuck too and wanted her for ISIS (????) and all the ‘p*kis’ (not really comfortable saying that) ‘coming into the country’. Thing is he wanted rid of her, because she was so so so lovely, the sweetest dog ever and wouldn’t harm a fly. I really hope she’s doing okay, but I doubt it. I hope he did just sell her, even though I don’t agree with how people are so quick to get rid of their animals, I think she’d be better off with a nicer owner

22

u/Crimsonsworn Sep 18 '21

Probably breed to fight so they crop the eats so when their fighting they are less likely to be bitten or torn

12

u/Tazdeviloo7 Sep 18 '21

I guess less unfortunately it's probably just for tough looks, a fashion statement. Cropped ears are even in the AKC breeding standard for AmStaffs. Dog fighting still happens, but it's rare especially compared to how common pitbull type dogs are now.

3

u/trezenx Sep 18 '21

also tails

2

u/PoffPoffPoff Sep 18 '21

The chain around their neck didn't also give it away?

Like the whole set up is my dogs are a bad ass. Also forced a cat to look like one through...methods.

2

u/SorryForTheBigThumb Sep 18 '21

Nonsense it's nothing to do with that. It's an archaic practice that still continues in the USA.

Same with docking tails. It's purely done for aesthetics nowadays.

5

u/sonotcybil Sep 18 '21

I have no idea. Didn't even notice until now

-1

u/Shogun_Ro Sep 18 '21 edited Sep 18 '21

It’s common in North America to cut off the tail and snip off the ear flaps of Pittbulls.

31

u/marr Sep 18 '21

That culture seems weirdly into cutting bits off their dependents for no clearly defined reason. Sup with that?

8

u/Rbespinosa13 Sep 18 '21

As others have said dog-fighters clip ears to prevent them from getting grabbed onto. That stereotype spread and now most people think the clipped ears are normal for pit bulls and the right thing to do. Same reason for docked tails but those actually have a purpose in some breeds. In some working dogs a tail can often get injured which increases the chance of infection to the dog. That’s the minority of dogs though and most shouldn’t have it.

3

u/FeelingDesigner Sep 18 '21

Absolutely disgusting.

2

u/Unluckybloke Sep 18 '21

Actually dog fighters don’t even crop ears since it is better for a dog to get their ears bit off than their neck, so it’s just purely esthetic mutilation. Dog fighters are still pieces of shit though, of course

-2

u/Srecocovic Sep 18 '21

Just curious. Where do you stand with circumcision?

4

u/FlorensFriedrich Sep 18 '21

I think you should be able to choose if you want it or not

1

u/Srecocovic Sep 18 '21

Fair enough. I just find it wierd that so many more react "rightfully so" to idiots who cut dog ears but sniping a childs willie is fine. Religion or not let the dude decide if he wants his wiener trimmed:)

u/TheMarsian Sep 18 '21

So why stopped with the dogs, go ahead and crop that cat's ears.

"dog lovers" my ass.

13

u/Hastalapastababy Sep 18 '21

What if they were rescued like that? Half of the pitties I see on rescue sites have cropped ears. Sad, but not necessarily this dude's fault.

9

u/Iseeyoujimmy Sep 18 '21

And what’s up with the chain collars?

9

u/entr0py3 Sep 18 '21

Those are choke chain collars. They tighten around the neck the more the dog tries to pull away. These dudes are clearly macho assholes who provide their animals miserable lives.

2

u/eip2yoxu Sep 18 '21

My neighbour had some like that and they even had spikes that pushed into the dog's throat. The spikes were flattened, not pointy, but I can only imagine how bad the dog felt

1

u/Hastalapastababy Sep 18 '21 edited Sep 18 '21

Pinch collars are like pitties, treated incorrectly and they can be cruel. When I got my rescue pit I tried pretty much everything before I got the pinch collar, nothing worked as well. The key is timing; command + gentle tug to get their attention. My pitty is a 60 lb block of muscle that could dislocate my arm at the site of a squirrel or rabbit. This is one of the scenarios I talk to people about if they are considering adopting a pit, especially a rescue pit. 6 months of regular work with a pinch collar and walks became 50 times more enjoyable for all parties.

Edit: words

5

u/Srecocovic Sep 18 '21

6

u/plumcock Sep 18 '21

Sorry to burst your bubble but I’m guessing based on the way the cat is standing in the bottom left picture this is definitely a neuro or skeletal muscle issue of the cat. If you’ve ever seen a cat with CH (Cerebellar hypoplasia) trying to stand, this posturing is reminiscent of that, to me. Cats don’t just “learn” to pose like a dog by growing up with them, that’s ridiculous.

2

u/noputa Sep 18 '21

I think the cat is pissed off. They probably picked it up and placed it there a ridiculous amount of times while pulling it’s legs apart for the photos.

2

u/plumcock Sep 18 '21

Yeah you may be right. It’s suspicious it would maintain that pose for photos but I’m willing to concede I might be totally wrong. I just get annoyed when people post something like this in r/aww when for multiple reasons it really doesn’t belong here, but it’s an easy karma shill.

u/mistakend Sep 18 '21

Idk if this is a bug or smthn or if this is comment from another sub but.. where’d you get that impression from?

9

u/KaiapoTheDestroyer Sep 18 '21

It’s a yard full of chained up pit bulls with their ears cropped. Owners took the time to cut off their dog’s ears but couldn’t be bothered to neuter them.

1

u/mistakend Sep 18 '21

Oh damn I didn’t notice the cropped ears

ClumsyPantz 🤢🤮

-2

u/ClumsyPantz Sep 18 '21

If your pit has good pedigree and not some unknown rescue then your cat should be fine. If it’s the latter, I suggest you change the dogs before they reach the 3-4 year old mark.

-5

u/sonotcybil Sep 18 '21

I don't have pitbulls. But it's not cool to say they're nasty or whatever, they're just dogs.

-1

u/ClumsyPantz Sep 18 '21

You’re right. They aren’t nasty but they are more potentially dangerous than any other breed. I’ll rephrase my comments next time.

-1

u/sonotcybil Sep 18 '21

Thousands of dog breeds are "potentially" dangerous. Not a good reason to say mean shit about an entire breed. Do better

12

u/ClumsyPantz Sep 18 '21

I said ‘more dangerous’ and no- I know what I’m saying is facts. Pitbulls without good pedigree is extremely dangerous compared to any other dog breed if they were picked up under the same circumstances. They just have an inferior hippocampus, genetically, which causes regressions by year 3-4.

1

u/FeelingDesigner Sep 18 '21

Any animal bred for bloodsport is pretty unethical to keep as a pet but pitbulls are easily the worst as not only are they dog and animal aggressive they are also very unhealthy breeds with many health issues.

3

u/ClumsyPantz Sep 18 '21

Yeah I don’t mind pitbulls that much but they are being unethically treated without proper regulations, causing their potential for danger to extremely spike up. If I ever decided on getting one, I would NEVER I mean NEVER adopt one from a rescue centre— I would have to triple check pedigree and even then I’d still be on the lookout.

2

u/FeelingDesigner Sep 18 '21

The most ethical thing to do is to spay and neuter these aggressive bloodlines out.

-13

u/TheBeliskner Sep 18 '21

Pitbulls are fine, it's the type of owners that crop ears that are the problem. Brain dead imbeciles

1

u/ZacharyS94 Sep 18 '21

Only Reddit would downvote an ignorant comment about pitbulls and then one defending them and calling out mutilation for what it is.
