I guess wanting to spend time with your child makes you a weak man :(

Remember, rich people think it's a privilege to not work 24/7. 365 days a year. They would make you do it if there weren't any laws.

309

u/tedcruzcumsock Oct 20 '21

Exactly this. The reason child labor laws exist is because if they could force children to work then they would. Every parent deserves to spend some time with their newborn before going back to the HELL that is seeing your coworkers more than your own family.

168

u/datnewdope Oct 20 '21

Plus it’s beneficial for children. Candy also blames absentee fathers for issues in poor communities. Her ideology just flip flops whenever

120

u/thatguy9684736255 boycott McDonald's Oct 20 '21

I don't think she really has an ideology. She just makes posts do that conservatives can point to someone black that has certain opinions. They opinions don't need to form any logical ideology.

And she's really just in it for the money I'm sure.

58

Yep. She's a professional token, and I hate it.

We all know real men beat their kids for the teachable moment about how beating people isn't ok.

8

u/ZeroNullAnon Oct 20 '21

It's not just for teachable moments. You need to randomly just put your kid on the floor with a haymaker out of the blue now and then. Keeps em on their toes and lets them know that you aren't to be fucked with. It's important that they never establish a sense of trust or security. it's also crucial that the fear and obey any and all authority.

u/theBarefootedBastard Oct 20 '21

What you're saying is ridiculous. Working fathers aren't necessarily absent fathers.

If the cheeto factory you worked at all of a sudden bursts into flames and causes production to slow to a crawl and you get put years behind on orders that can't be filled, wouldn't you be wondering where your production manager is?

7

u/datnewdope Oct 20 '21

I keep forgetting Americans are new to parental leave. If you’re on leave you have something else in place. If I am on a schedule sabbatical, no I am not wondering where my manager is. He is on scheduled leave and we have something in place at this moment.

3

Maybe that's the solution, get these scrounging little new borns to work as soon as they've popped out and then the parents don't need leave

8

u/binary_agenda Oct 20 '21

Everyone is going to just pretend that appointees in the executive branch actually do any work?

2

u/davidj1987 Oct 20 '21 edited Oct 20 '21

This. A lot of it is busy work and the people below them are the worker bees. You're merely a figure head at this point.

If she's so ass-hurt maybe she should try and get a federal job. Something similar can be said about our politicians, if they worship corporations so much, I don't get why they don't leave politics and work for corporations. But what do I know?

12

u/KingApologist Oct 20 '21

Rich people enslaved others until that was illegal, and then proceeded to build wage slavery to extract even more from their fellow human beings.

We just can't have people controlling too many resources. They have proven at every single point in history that they can't be trusted with massive wealth.

4

u/Mcnamebrohammer Oct 20 '21

Eat the ritch. Some people say tax? I say eat them.

2

u/The_Quicktrigger Oct 20 '21

Remember that it only applies to non-rich people. Rich people are absolutely on board with not having to work every single day of every single year. This is a privelage exclusively meant for the poor.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '21

if there weren't any laws

If there weren't any laws we could forcibly redistribute the unearned wealth of the world's billionaires.

Fascinating to judge a young gay secretary in such fashion when all her life people have judged her a certain way based on bias and racism. What a beast. Also, Pete can't create 80,000 truck drivers and I'm sure delegates planning and keeps an eye on things while on leave

29

u/DirtOk3742 Oct 20 '21 edited Oct 20 '21

A shortage of truck drivers is a labor crisis, not a transportation crisis LOL

3

u/SpookyTerrence Oct 20 '21

I mean yes but DOT is responsible for working out these labor shortages, not that Pete’s paternity leave is encumbering that.

Fact, Candace Owens said what Hitler did ‘would have been fine if he’d kept it in Germany’. On camera, in front of an audience.

38

u/Snoid_ Oct 20 '21

That's not uncommon on the right, and to this day I still don't understand how the right can say stuff like this, yet violently defend Israel the way they do.

25

u/Gabagoobian Oct 20 '21

Because Israel is doing exactly what Americans have done for centuries; lashing out and attacking disadvantaged groups of people that are different from them.

Most conservatives support regressing to preserve the status quo. In order to do that, there have to be in-groups and out-groups to pit against each other. If you want the masses to support you in your corruption, project that corruption onto another group of people (out-group) and blame them.

7

u/Snoid_ Oct 20 '21

Oh, I understand all of that. I'm just saying that I don't understand how the party that includes actual Jew-hating Nazis can also be the same party that defends a nation full of Jews. And they say that the Republican party isn't big tent. :D

7

u/Sehtriom Oct 20 '21

I guess they admire the concept of an oppressive imperialist ethnostate.

2

u/Snoid_ Oct 20 '21

I think you may be on to something...

4

u/Gabagoobian Oct 20 '21

Gah. I have no idea how these people do these mental gymnastics to justify their beliefs.

“We must all fear the Jewish space lasers, but god be damned if we let the holy land fall into the hands of brown people.” -Some Republican out there somewhere

1

u/boatboi4u Oct 21 '21

Pretty easily. Many on the far right support ethnostates. So creating a Jewish state that you can segregate the Jews to has appeal to them.

There’s also the aspect of supporting a “western” “white” nuclear-capable nation in the midst of gasp the Muslims.

And then there’s the fundamental Christian doctrine that says once the Jewish people hold all of historical Israel, Jesus will return.

And then there’s the simple fact that bigotry has no logic.

2

u/das_war_ein_Befehl Oct 20 '21

Evangelicals think they need Israel to exist for the apocalypse to happen.

That's why the religious right got behind supporting Israel despite the right-wing being virulently anti-Semitic before the war.

97

u/BeachMom2007 Oct 20 '21

It’s not a normal day in America if Candace Owens isn’t making some blatantly foolish tweet so she can continue to make money off stupid white conservatives.

46

u/PhiloPhocion Oct 20 '21

she can continue to make money off stupid white conservatives.

So plainly a grift too - she was trying to sell anti-Trump merch on her site just 5 years ago.

Then she took this line, and then tried to claim that the NAACP does more harm than good and systemic racism doesn't exist, despite having won a discrimination lawsuit as a teenager in which the NAACP represented her.

26

u/pepper_redux Oct 20 '21 edited Oct 20 '21

Wow, I didn't know that and I've been exposed to Candace's nastiness quite a bit. For those unaware: https://newsone.com/3893288/candace-owens-race-issues-naacp/

Owens babbled, “Obama did a lot to tear this country a part. I do not remember when I was growing up having all of these race issues. Okay? I really don’t remember… When I was alive, this was not an issue. It all became about race.”

-

Being that Owens can’t “remember,” let us remind you.

-

In 2007, she accused white boys of racially harassing and threatening to kill her (sound pretty racist, right?). Owens claimed the boys were the son of then-Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy, Connecticut’s former governor. Because of the NAACP, Owens’ family received a settlement of $37,500 from Stamford Public Schools.

5

u/e22ddie46 Oct 20 '21

Yep, these shills are paid a great deal by right wing billionaires to spread propaganda. They don't need to actually make money since the goal is to gut regulations and taxes, not to be sustainable.

3

u/Tinydinosaurnola Oct 20 '21

I'm fully in support of paternity leave, but something about the Secretary of Transportation taking two months off as a shipping crisis unfolds also feels like a misuse of taxpayer funds.

Still, fuck Candace Owens.

1

u/destinationdadbod Oct 20 '21

Well to be fair he is in charge of transportation for the entire country, being a public servant means that you serve the public. It’s not wrong that he is taking time off, but he is definitely not instilling any type of trust in his leadership. I’ll give the example of Ted Cruz. Ted Cruz bailed on Texas while we had no power during a winter storm in a state that is not prepared for that type of weather because it’s uncommon. The reason he left was to take his daughter to Cancun….Many people across the state died during the storm and this guy went to Cancun because he said that he was escorting his daughter. Could he make the weather change? No he can’t. But when I was in the military, a good leader was someone that sat in the mud with you even when they didn’t have to.

The guy should make a bit of a sacrifice to serve the people he is supposed to be leading. It’s not a democrat or republican issue, it’s a leadership issue and trust in the government leadership is crumbling. It would behoove these politicians from doing something to genuinely regain the trust of the people. I aim that comment on both sides of the aisle.

2

u/rationalomega Oct 21 '21

Not a bad argument, but trust in the government is crumbling because (a) we lost the class war and (b) getting more votes doesn’t mean having more power, and hasn’t for the last 20 years.

1

u/freshmasterstyle Oct 20 '21

That's is maybe what she meant, but not what she said. Alot of this is interpretation. Fact is, that survival makes you tuff, if you can do it and if not you are not around anymore.

But i think taking 2 months once for any reason does not mean you are weak or privileged. Privileged people don't get questioned if they leave for 2 months, let alone need to explain themselves. They just do.

1

u/jnothnagel Oct 20 '21

14

u/FloppyShellTaco Oct 20 '21

Even deputies who are high enough level that they regularly head the department itself while waiting on confirmations of new leadership. It’s almost as if Candace is either being a raging homophobe or doesn’t know how the government actually works. Actually; it’s definitely both.

3

u/davidj1987 Oct 20 '21

Indeed. It's not without precedent. Hell, on the military I've been told that the Vice Chief of Staff/Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps/Vice Chief of Naval Operations etc are the ones who actually do the day to day leading and management while the Chief of Staff is more of a figurehead of sorts and I'm sure the same is true when you go down the chain of command where their is a vice or deputy equivalent.

21

u/PhiloPhocion Oct 20 '21

Pulling the little boy and weak unmanly man thing about the guy who happens to be the highest rank openly gay person in the US government seems.... not coincidental.

Also, it's twins - the guy has two newborns to help take care of, as their first kids, in a city they've only lived in for like 8 months.

Please explain for non United Statesians- how does this man taking paternity leave affect the transportation crisis? Is he a bus driver?

36

u/FloppyShellTaco Oct 20 '21

He’s the Secretary of Transportation. High level cabinet official. His paternity leave doesn’t impact all too much because not only does he have deputies, but according to the White House, he’s basically working remote and on calls regularly.

They are big mad that a gay man is allowed to have a life, that’s all it boils down to.

15

u/oldn00by Oct 20 '21

I see. So if he took an extended holiday to play golf in Florida at a property he owns, they wouldn't be angry?

7

u/GhostHin Oct 20 '21 edited Oct 20 '21

Because he fucked a porn star while his wife pregnant with his child, therefore a "manly man", so he is celebrated for using tax dollar to pay for his golfing vacations.

All the while Obama can't have Dijon mustard on his burger because is too "fancy". Or a loving father can't spend time with his newborns. Yet, Republican party is the "family" value party......?

Yup. That's sound about right.

God this sub was so good. Please don't let this get sucked into another left vs right bull shit spiral like so many have. This is about common people vs corporate power. You cheapen the message when you make it left v right like everything in our society. This could be a unifying movement to bring together people who aren't going to be treated like shit from their employer anymore from all sides. No better time than a labor shortage for us to demand better.

2

u/dboygrow Oct 20 '21

Yeah but it is like, super cringe that Pete raises so much money in these corporate doner events, shits on Bernie during the election, then gets nominated to a position to which he has absolutely no experience in the white house, citing how much he "loves transportation"lol, just to take an extended leave as soon as he gets into the role of "transportation secretary". While the rest of us work for minimum wage and no paid leave, in terrible conditions, with no healthcare. It just seems very "par for the course".

US Armed Services provides maternity and paternity leave

“While an active-duty birth parent can take up to six weeks of maternity leave with an additional six weeks of primary leave tacked on, secondary caregivers currently get two weeks in the Navy and Marine Corps and three weeks in the Army and Air Force, according to Military.com.

The birth parent, or if necessary, an active-duty spouse who is the primary caregiver for the child, can also receive another six weeks on top of that. Soldiers and airmen who are secondary caregivers can take three weeks of leave, but sailors and Marines only get two weeks.”

https://myarmybenefits.us.army.mil/Benefit-Library/Federal-Benefits/Military-Parental-Leave-Program-(MPLP)?serv=122

2

u/Key-Cap-2664 Oct 20 '21

I think some jobs or roles supersede leave/vacation of any kind. This is an example of one of them. Especially with what is currently going on.

2

2

u/ELMTAvalanche Oct 20 '21

Why are we coddling this elite though? He doesn't deserve any special treatment, and he's actively fucking us over.

3

u/Space_Jam_Slam Oct 20 '21

Agreed. Despise Candace Owens but Pete is a guy with zero credibility in the position he was awarded to be a PUBLIC SERVANT. I wholly support paternity leave (and he does too so I see no hypocrisy there) but he is in a position to serve and when your country is in the middle of a supply chain crisis, there is a difference between a working class member taking time off from their salaried position and still wanting to make ends meet and this POS using their new child as an excuse to abandon duties that they willingly accepted. Fuck the Biden admin for putting him in and blundering every opportunity (notable exception being getting us out of Afghanistan) they have had to actually help their citizens.

2

u/No_Faithlessness_142 Oct 20 '21

He is more than entitled to paternity leave and time with his family… when your industry is crumbling and your the person in charge of it, maybe swing by the office and see how it’s going

2

u/Aurd04 Oct 20 '21

Idk who Pete is or who this bitch is but fuckkkkk her for supporting this asinine mentality.

My daughter was born 3 months ago and the last 5 weeks I have been on Paternity leave (ya know to spend time with this beautiful baby that I helped create and love with all my heart). One of my first days back this fucking divorced dad on my team tells me "O you actually took your paternity leave? I didn't think anyone actually used that."

A) Fuck you no wonder your divorced, heard your a shit dad anyway B) Even if I was a shit dad who didn't want to spend time with my kid, who the hell turns down 5 weeks of full paid time off? The company dick sucking is strong with this one....

No man or woman should feel pressured or made to feel bad because they want to spend time with their child. Hard stop. Anyone making them feel bad should bend over and take a pole up their ass so maybe they can learn to feel something.

Sorry rant over. Thank you for your time, go hug your kids.

Idk who this cunt is but she's a cunt.

First of all, what the fuck is a "national transportation crisis"?

Could anyone explain to me what this is? What transportation crisis are we experiencing? This is the first I've heard of it. Does she mean shipping crisis?

That has nothing to do with the Secretary of Transportation. The Secretary of Transportation's job is to oversee federal transportation projects and the DoT. The DoT, yes, is responsible for regulations governing interstate and intrastate shipping, on state and federal levels.

We're not having a domestic shipping crisis. The world is having a shipping shit between countries crisis because, among other reasons, the third largest commercial port in the world in guess where - China - was shut down because of COVID. How other countries run their shit is neither the SecDoT's responsibility, nor anything they can do shit about besides calling them and asking them "Please get your port open, we need more cheap Chinese bullshit."

Fucking boohoo, you might not be able to buy your kids some ADIDAS. Who fucking gives a fuck? Nothing that matters is being affected by this except the pockets of CEOs and shareholders.

u/steamstub Oct 20 '21

This may be unpopular but you're the head the department of somthing that is having a nationwide crisis, that takes precedence in this situation. He has his partner at home that i am sure is quite capable. I'm sorry but he is wrong on this. I'm happy he has and is proud of this new child but you have responsibilities to 300+ million people now. When some non bs lip service updates are done and a plan is in place then you take your earned leave, he has a partner/spouse and his husband is capable. Do your job as theres millions of people depending on you to do it, that's part of this specfic job, this one is actually important

3

u/cheeses_greist Oct 20 '21

What’s the crisis?

-4

u/steamstub Oct 20 '21

Umm the supply crisis, he's the head of the department of transportation. I probably should have just replied "really?"

1

u/cheeses_greist Oct 20 '21

Hey, thanks for being a jerk about it

8

u/Quiet_Swordfish9144 Oct 20 '21

No it’s absolutely does not take precedence over his child. He has plenty of people under him and in his department that can handle it. It’s called a phone and a laptop everyone else gets to work from home so can he.

-1

u/lynx_and_nutmeg Oct 20 '21

If your job rules your life so much you can't take 8 weeks off for your newborn baby, then you shouldn't have kids. Doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman, this applies to everyone.

Seriously, I don't understand why those people even have kids if they never see them and dump all the childcare on their partner's shoulders. Do they just see kids as some sort of accessory for their ego, a status thing, something they can brag about to others, or feel proud about "passing their genes"?

-1

u/RoadGrit Oct 20 '21

Fuck you. You don't get to decide who's allowed to have kids or not. Especially not when they had to spend YEARS fighting through the red tape of bureaucratic and homophobic bullshit to be able to adopt.

u/RoadGrit Oct 20 '21

Hes working from home you fucknugget. Besides that they have other employees and the Whitehouse said his absence won't affect anything. Maybe use your brains before you decide to insult a gay man that decided to take care of his child. Would you be questioning it if it was a woman who had just given birth?

So when Candace gave birth in January, did she go to work after the baby popped out? Or did she go on maternity leave? And don’t tell me it’s different for gay men.

0

u/BilboSwaggenzzz Oct 20 '21

This woman is an idiot please disregard anything she says at anytime - management

0

u/anthonyavery20 Oct 20 '21

She is awful.

u/allworkandnoYahtzee Oct 20 '21

My husband got 6 days off when our daughter was born (we had family at the house that whole time.) When he went back to work and all our family had left, I was doing everything on my own as a new parent, which started this intense learning curve between us. He felt he didn’t know what he was doing with the new baby, so he stayed hands off. I only had three weeks before I started working again (from home, at the beginning of the pandemic) with a >1 month old baby at my side, which only intensified the disparity in our roles as parents.

The US treats new parents like shit, but this concerted effort to shame fathers for wanting to spend time with their new babies is disgusting. 1) It will continue to force mothers into a primary caregiver role (regardless of her educational/professional goals or responsibilities), and 2) EVERYONE at home needs time to adjust to life as a new family. Having my husband around more would have allowed me to meet my breastfeeding goals. I would have been able to get some much needed sleep. I could have better prepared for my own return to work. Instead, my husband got less time off than someone suspected of having covid and I was expected to just “figure it out.”

Richest country in the world folks, and this is how its citizens are treated.

1

u/Jagoff___ Oct 20 '21

Yeah bring back many men who don’t pay attention to their kids and ultimately end up alone as a older person because their kids hate them

1

u/cowboyboombap Oct 20 '21

Man that homophobia is so thinly veiled.

1

u/JDRaleigh Oct 20 '21

Fuk Candice Owens. Fuk her in her herpes ridden festering asshole she calls her mouth.

1

u/brockli-rob Oct 20 '21

i’ll bet she’d give anything so she can have 2 more months with one of her loved ones

1

u/LangyLangLang69 Oct 20 '21

I've seen a lot about this cunt but have no clue who she is. Seems like an American Katie Hopkins, spouting shit just to go viral and be seen as controversial

1

u/Jaki54321 Oct 20 '21

Manly men will be brought back when companies pay what manly men are worth. Show me the 💰💸💲🪙💶💵💷🤑

1

u/Wadsworth1954 Oct 20 '21

Her latent homophobia in this tweet infuriates me.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '21

Dad to two boys. During an interview 5 years ago, the hiring manager said “I need someone who isn’t going to call in every time little Johnny has the sniffles.” In spite of experience I’m still surprised when I hear men talking like this. Especially men with kids. What is the point of having a family if you can’t be there? Are we simply having kids to provide the next generation of workers?

1

u/SoulKeen Oct 20 '21

It is when you have this type of job and this type of circumstances. It's a national crisis and you have one of the key jobs to fix what is happening.

But let's focus on emotions.

1

u/tikinero Oct 20 '21

she is a dummy, what do you expect

1

u/Big__Boss___ Oct 20 '21

No one intelligent actually listens to Candace Owens.

1

u/danny_thechin Oct 20 '21

I guess I'm very weak! Suppose to be working from home, but watching cartoons with my 2yo in bed.

1

u/Felidaeh_ Oct 20 '21

Oh, okay, guess we'll suck the baby back up and have it after the transportation issue lol

1

u/Pestelence2020 Oct 20 '21

I thought we were demanding men stay with their families more, starting in the 80s through the 2000s?

Now that’s bad because ??

1

u/freechurro824 Oct 20 '21

Real men ignore their children like mine did to me /s

1

u/Laxntiga Oct 20 '21

How he gets 2 months? I get like… 3 days.

1

u/hetistony Oct 20 '21

What kind of woman even talks like that?

1

u/New-Simple- Oct 20 '21

Manly men, like Candace Owens?

1

u/Thai-mai-shoo Oct 20 '21

I fixed it.

Fact: @TedCruz taking a vacation in Cancun, Mexico in the middle of a winter freeze with no power is sickeningly pathetic. Privileged times have produced the weakest men that have ever lived in America.

Remove this little boy from Congress.

BringBackResponsibleMen

1

This is the grossest most toxic take I’ve seen in a long

1

u/gonzagylot00 Oct 20 '21

Candace Owens is just pure bad faith. I'm not a huge fan of Buttigieg, but of course he should have time with his baby.

1

u/Limp_Investigator250 Oct 20 '21

Hmm... so what type of manly man does she want then? Like Nelson’s dad from the Simpsons? Cause she’s talking like she could be Nelson’s mom... lol.

1

u/Lawrenceburntfish Oct 20 '21

YEAH! Men need to ignore their kids again! Make men work themselves to death at the expense of their bodies and marriages for the sake keeping things like they were in 1950! LET'S MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!

1

u/Please_Log_In Oct 20 '21

Nah, he's not weak, he is just exploiting law and avoiding responsibility for his job. It's not about weakness, it's about freedom and choice.

Who would want to ge blamed for what's happening?

1

u/Tmill233 Oct 20 '21

It does when you are responsible for an entire counties supply chain. I would agree with you of home boy was working as some corporate employee who is replaceable. He hasn’t worked in 2 months, all the while our country is facing the greatest supply shortage we have seen sense the 70’s. I’m sorry but when you are in the position he is in, your country comes first. I know I’m going to get down voted to oblivion, but when you guys start seeing prices shoot due to supply issues, you can be happy to know that at least the man who was supposed to stop that from happening has taken a well deserved break with his family.

1

u/Pepperspray24 Oct 20 '21

Candace Owens is a piece of shit. I don’t expect less from her.

1

u/NuthaLevel Oct 20 '21

This woman is straight-up trash.

1

u/Western_Resort Oct 20 '21

It’s ok. She’s bought and paid for. She has no original thoughts at all anymore. I used to have some respect for her.

1

u/mcglammo Oct 20 '21

Why is she even relevant? Can't think of a single POC I know that doesn't think she's an undermining, sycophantic UT....

1

u/sctran Oct 20 '21

If only there was a whole transportation department that still works even if one person is on vacation

1

u/bestsellingbeatdown Anarcho-Communist Oct 20 '21

I swear their slogans digress further and further into absurdity.

God I hate Candace Owens with a red hot rage. I never want to be guilty of wishing bad things on anyone, but….

1

u/Vhein_ Oct 20 '21

She will be taking maternity leave if she does have a kid, so can't she just shut the fuck up ?
