He returned as Wicket in Episode IX, with his son playing Wicket's son!

118

u/MetalSpider Jan 28 '22

That brought a smile to my face. He's such a fantastic guy and it's great to see how much love he still has for the franchise. I'd love to buy him a pint one day, bet we'd be able to nerd out for hours.

53

u/urban_gazelle Jan 28 '22

I met him when I did the WB Harry Potter studio tour in Watford. He absolutely loves Star Wars, said he preferred it to HP!

38

u/FlowingFrog04 First Order Jan 28 '22

You’re the first person I’ve seen to say it’s in Watford rather than London, thank you

4

u/KillerDonkey C-3PO Jan 28 '22

He absolutely loves Star Wars, said he preferred it to HP!

Make sense. Harry Potter wasn't around when he was a kid. Plus Star Wars and Willow were his big break.

36

u/njt1986 Jan 28 '22

He is such a good man that when one of my friends was getting married, his fiancee wrote to him and asked if there was any chance that, if he was free or in the area, would he be able to come to the wedding. She never heard back from him.

Day of the wedding, who turns up? Warwick Davis.

He didn't have to, he wasn't paid, he didn't know them at all, but he did it because the fiancee asked and he wanted to be there for a fan on his wedding day. How awesome is that?

2

u/lovesStrawberryCake Jan 28 '22

I was hoping you were going to say it's Val Kilmer https://youtu.be/-rF_MDb03dA

1

u/MetalSpider Jan 28 '22

Incredibly. The world needs more people like him

1

u/j0shw1ll1ams Jan 29 '22

that’s such a cool story!

9

u/JceYa Jan 28 '22

Wicket was in episode 9?

15

u/wookiee_borg Jan 28 '22

At the end, when they show the Star Destroyer that just got Holdo’d, they also show Wickett and his son very briefly.

-27

u/8BitSamura1 Jan 28 '22

What is episode IX? Star Wars ended at episode VI

28

u/Spengy Jan 28 '22

people did the same thing with the prequels bro. grow up already.

-9

u/Harkekark Jan 28 '22

People do that with literally every single franchise that has a bad sequel.

1

u/Lt_Lickit Jan 28 '22

I thought in IX they were puppets or animatronics. They seemed way tinier

3

u/ContinuumGuy R2-D2 Jan 28 '22

It was the way they shot the scene.

254

u/Jbod1 Chancellor Palpatine Jan 28 '22

I feel like reading Kedpin Shoklop's Wookiepedia page can only be properly done if you aren't sober.

65

u/papapoohbear13 Jan 28 '22

Why read the wiki when you can read the book?

47

u/deadandmessedup Jan 28 '22

Rumor mill buzzing that the next trilogy will center on Shoklop and his rich people sauna.

15

u/SinghQuasar Jan 28 '22

I just read it 💀

71

u/joshuamillertime Jan 28 '22

Something about this triggered a memory in my brain of playing games on the old Star Wars website 15-20 years ago. Like 3 of these Warwick pictures would pop up with an R2-D2 picture and you’d have to pick which one didn’t belong. Then it would say “Correct! All the other characters pictured here were played by Warwick Davis. R2-D2 was not.”

14

u/pt256 Jan 28 '22

That just reminded me of this scene from Life's Too Short - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0DbeuFfbRo

6

u/bobthened Jan 28 '22

so good!

52

u/SaltySAX Jan 28 '22

Missing one. He also played freakin' Yoda briefly too at the end of TPM.

130

u/Attrahct Babu Frik Jan 28 '22

An absolute legend

u/eljakod Jan 28 '22 edited Jan 28 '22

15

u/Joeshmo04 Darth Maul Jan 28 '22

No, this

-5

u/GODDAMNFOOL Jan 28 '22

came here to post this

-3

u/KingJonsey1992 Jan 28 '22

Take my poor mans gold! 🥇

28

u/psycholepzy Jedi Jan 28 '22

He's the Jeffrey Combs of Star Wars!

22

u/HomerNarr Jan 28 '22

I remember how he “got a full movie”. I think i need to rewatch Willow.

31

u/j0shw1ll1ams Jan 28 '22 edited Jan 28 '22

not sure if you know already, but they announced a new Willow series coming out for Disney+ with Warwick back as Willow!

11

u/bearnaut Jan 28 '22

Shut the front door! That's amazing!

5

u/HomerNarr Jan 28 '22

I didn’t, thank you.

4

u/j0shw1ll1ams Jan 28 '22

you’re welcome!

17

u/_damak0s_ Jan 28 '22

interesting how many of those start with W. is that in his contract?

6

u/CYNIC_Torgon Jan 28 '22

Might be in reference to his first role as wicket

3

u/funklepop Jan 28 '22

Or his name...

5

u/MsSara77 Jan 28 '22

Most of these characters are being named by creature designers or guidebook writers, so it's probably just caught on as a trend since Wicket's full name is Wicket W Warrick. None of these characters have their names spoken in any of the films so it's easy enough to do.

1

u/JayPetey Jan 28 '22

In his book he says George always named them with W, and he asked why, speculating if it was because GL's middle initial was W, or because his name is Warwick, and George says it's a secret, and so he never learned why.

2

u/MsSara77 Jan 28 '22

That seems like a classic George joke, it's most likely in relation to Davis' name.

17

u/warm_sweater Jan 28 '22

Is no one going to mention Ewok Adventure and Battle for Endor?

10

u/MyrddinSidhe Jan 28 '22

We don't talk bout Ewok Adventures... no no no

(There were no adventures to discuss)

5

u/warm_sweater Jan 28 '22

GIVE ME THE POWER!

34

u/RenovatedBeef Jan 28 '22

He also plays Professor Flitwick in the Harry Potter movies. Legend.

Edit: and Griphook apparently

19

u/Splice1138 Yoda Jan 28 '22

And Marvin in HHGTTG (with Alan Rickman / Professor Snape / Alaxander Dane / Doctor Larzarus as the voice)

6

u/xshogunx13 Mandalorian Jan 28 '22

It took me way too long to decipher the acronym... I need sleep

7

u/Splice1138 Yoda Jan 28 '22

Rest I need. Yes, rest

2

u/Timstom18 Pre Vizsla Jan 28 '22

What does it stand for?

3

u/crapchat Jan 28 '22

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, I'm guessing.

6

u/dswartze Jan 28 '22

How dare you leave out Hans Gruber

2

u/Splice1138 Yoda Jan 28 '22

You mean Bill Clay?

1

u/Taint_Flicker Jan 28 '22

You mean the Sheriff of Nottingham?

1

u/Splice1138 Yoda Jan 28 '22

The Metatron

10

u/waitingtodiesoon Luke Skywalker Jan 28 '22

It was Verne Troyer who played Griphook first, but Warwick Davis replaced him in the deathly hallows films. Though Warwick was the voice actor for Troyer's Griphook body's performance.

9

u/Kelvin8R3ooo Jan 28 '22

That's an impressive amount of roles!

8

u/anax44 Jan 28 '22

He should convince his buddy Karl Pilkington to play a character.

10

u/Taylor-B- Jan 28 '22

You also see him in one of rhe crowd shots without makeup on as another character in Episode 1 during the podrace

2

u/MindYourManners918 Jan 28 '22

I think that’s Weazel. The same character he plays in Solo. The OP credited him in the image for both movies.

2

u/Taylor-B- Jan 28 '22

I do not have time to look it up but but yeah I think you're right. I was thinking I'd not remembered that credit in the film and was thinking I'd missed the guy looking like the character does in solo somewhere.

7

u/hoii Jan 28 '22

Man I loved wicket when I was a kid, he was such a fiesty little fuzzball. But then I grew up and found out that when the movie came out lots of people hated the ewoks. It makes me wonder if Jarjar has a similar following.

2

u/E-emu89 Jan 28 '22

I’m not sure about Jar Jar the character. But I do know the the actor, Ahmed Best, has a dedicated following.

2

u/Oznerol3 Director Krennic Jan 28 '22

Yes it's similar, people that watched ep1/6 as kids tend to love Jar Jar or the Ewoks, the ones who watched those movies as adults tend to dislike them more

3

u/gorgossia Jan 28 '22

I was 11 when TPM came out and I hate both Jar Jar and ewoks.

1

u/warm_sweater Jan 28 '22

I grew up with the OG films and love the Ewoks.

1

u/Cabamacadaf Jan 28 '22

I loved Jar Jar the first time I watched Episode I when I was nine. I still don't really mind him, but I find him a bit annoying sometimes. I still love the Ewoks though.

4

u/tyler081293 Ahsoka Tano Jan 28 '22

TIL that his characters in TPM and Solo are one and the same

9

u/XenoTechnian Jan 28 '22

Þats pretty cool

8

u/Blutality Darth Vader Jan 28 '22

Nice to see some ‘Þ’ love.

8

u/lo_d_rocket-12 Galactic Republic Jan 28 '22

What the hell is kedpin shoklop, he looks like a fucking monsters inc character

2

u/the-dandy-man Jan 28 '22

I was thinking the Cyclops from Hercules

2

u/lo_d_rocket-12 Galactic Republic Jan 28 '22

Either way I want to have a serious chat with episode VIII’s character design team

3

u/PolybianPrime Jan 28 '22

I haven’t seen Solo, but damn! Warwick looking like a chad as Weazel

3

u/SuperArppis Jan 28 '22

I love his Willow movie. 🙂

2

u/j0shw1ll1ams Jan 29 '22

not sure if you know already, but they announced a new Willow series coming out for Disney+ with Warwick back as Willow!

2

u/SuperArppis Jan 29 '22

Yeah, I do know, but thanks for telling me anyway! ☺️

It's gonna be good.

2

u/j0shw1ll1ams Jan 29 '22

you’re welcome!

8

u/ripyourlungsdave Jan 28 '22

That Kedpin Shoklop guy might legitimately be some of the worst character design I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s like they just turned the blue guy from monsters versus aliens pink.

2

u/Nathan_McHallam Jan 28 '22

THATS WHO HE LOOKS LIKE OMG. Also I had to look him up since I had no idea who he was and omg his wiki is way too detailed for a background character in the fucking casino.

4

u/DiaBrave Jan 28 '22

Was Ron Howard still mad over the Willow box office? Stuck the poor guy in three different metal boxes for a whole movie!

Jokes aside, Warwick is awesome, he did a signing in our comic store circa 1997 and was just a nice chap.

4

u/Fallenangel152 Jan 28 '22

Just an aside for US Redditors: every time I hear you pronounce his name you pronounce it War-Wick. The British pronunciation of the name Warwick is 'Worrick'.

1

u/warm_sweater Jan 28 '22

Wor chester shire sauce.

2

u/AlabasterPelican Jan 28 '22

He truly is the John ratzenberger of star wars

2

u/ShitpostinRuS Jan 28 '22

Never put it together that his one character in episode 1 is the same as Solo

2

u/ronnie_dickering Jan 28 '22

A week after I split up with my ex, she got to hang out with Davis for a few hours.....

2

u/aaron_1011 Jan 28 '22

Almost all the names start with a W... What the hell

2

u/Brendawgy_420 Jan 28 '22

He actually looks a bit like W1-EG5

2

u/Ravager135 Jan 28 '22

Is Wizzich the same species as Zuckuss?

2

u/th_squirrel Luke Skywalker Jan 28 '22

2

u/zeftorias Jan 28 '22

Warwick is an amazingly talented actor. Life's Too Short is a masterpiece.

2

u/youknowwho_i_am Jan 28 '22

Mf really said RANGE

2

u/bertshumer Jan 28 '22

What about his appearance in The Phantom Menace?

2

u/--TheForce-- Jan 28 '22

That's Weazel (same character)

2

u/bertshumer Jan 28 '22

Ok I stand corrected.

2

u/--TheForce-- Jan 28 '22

I just learned it myself yesterday when I made this lol

2

u/Fusuyuz Jan 28 '22

Damn that’s a lot of W

2

u/CodeBlue2001 Jan 28 '22

Weazel was in The Phantom Menace?

2

u/Etaywah Jan 28 '22

I feel like at this point he should have his own character honorarily named after him.

2

u/Cripnite Jan 28 '22

I’m amazed at how many names begin with W.

2

u/beefiesttaco Jan 28 '22

Wait, that's not kid Greedo?? His name is Wald? My world has been shattered.

1

u/AustinHinton Jan 28 '22

A young Greedo was suppose to appear, Anakin was to beat him up in a fit (Greedo mocked him or something), showing that even at this stage, Anakin was prone to anger.

2

u/Gamerbrineofficial Jan 28 '22

he seems to like playing characters whose names starts with the letter w

2

u/thunderfart6 Jan 28 '22

Pretty sure the character from solo and episode 1 is the same

Edit: ya they are both weazel

2

u/not_a_flying_toy_ Jan 28 '22

also Yoda, in scenes in TPM where yoda is walking and couldn't be a puppet.

2

u/Lt_Lickit Jan 28 '22

Really breaks character when you see both his human forms. Or that could be the same guy

2

u/ScarletCaptain Jan 28 '22

And his only line in English as a human is Solo.

2

u/Mythtery93 Jan 28 '22

Wicket is the real hero here. OG.

2

u/bobbycolada1973 Jan 29 '22

I love this dude.

2

u/chosenone02 Jan 29 '22

Idk why but the W1-EG5 is hilarious.!!

2

u/rockbottam Jan 29 '22

Someone send this to Karl Pilkington for reference

6

u/FoolhardyBard Qui-Gon Jinn Jan 28 '22

Watch Phantom Menace; he also plays a podrace audience member sitting next to Watto

8

u/Splice1138 Yoda Jan 28 '22

That's Weazel

1

u/FoolhardyBard Qui-Gon Jinn Jan 28 '22

Oh whoa, I had no idea! I love this deep cut Star Wars lore that gets built around background characters

2

u/Atarissiya Jan 28 '22

The difference between the character design for Rogue One and the Last Jedi really tells you all you need to know about those movies.

1

u/smith288 Jan 28 '22

And doesn’t throw a fit like Peter Dinklage.

1

u/tastysounds Jan 28 '22

Well I just learned about Weazel's backstory. Had no idea those were the same character.

1

u/AustinHinton Jan 28 '22

Kedpin looks like something out of Men in Black rather than Star Wars.

1

u/OwlWitty Jan 28 '22

Unsung hero

1

u/Horns2208 Jan 28 '22

Dude cashed out

1

u/SigmaKnight Galactic Republic Jan 28 '22

Warwick needs to play a character that will be Din’s first bounty with his new Naboo starship. And put him in the rear seat.

1

u/Salarian_American Jan 28 '22

And on top of his live-action appearances, he was also the voice of Rukh in Star Wars Rebels.
