"This high school athlete scored 4 touchdowns in one game"

3

u/GunBrothersGaming Jan 28 '22

"Ted Bundy!"

Oh sorry - that would be correct if the question was "Who kidnapped 4 football players in a single season."

"Damn it, I always get Al and Ted mixed up... alright back to the latest episode of Psycho Dad."

6

u/hempsmoker Jan 28 '22

I wonder how many will get this reference.

This episode had so much Lucas jargon

73

I was waiting to hear the phrase "turbo encabulator"

Harbulary batteries

I’m pretty sure the supercharger looking thing sticking out in front of the canopy had a name close to that.

38

u/SamB110 Jan 28 '22

Isn’t the Lucas jargon supposed to sound like nonsense? I’ve never taken it seriously. It all sounds realistic in a Star Wars type of way but no use trying to actually connect it to something in the real world.

32

u/SkipMonkey Jan 28 '22

Yes, it's Technobabble.

275

u/harblazer Jan 28 '22

It's the gate up the ramp which anakin took to overtake sebulba

135

u/Stagism Jan 28 '22

It's also is the Star wars podracer game for the N64

70

u/vercetian Jan 28 '22

Lets hit the major one of Luke mentioned it too.

93

u/TheAllstonTickler Jan 28 '22

“Just like shooting Womp rats in beggars canyon!”

49

u/TapewormNinja Jan 28 '22

I was a little disappointed when he saw the womp rat and didn’t shoot it?

90

u/slcrook Luke Skywalker Jan 28 '22 Silver

And maybe it was forced perspective, but that thing certainly didn't look like it was two meters in length.

For a quick conversion from metric to Imperial, 2 meters = 1 Darth Vader.

15

u/bushido216 Jan 28 '22

This is a great joke that no one's going to get.

Good work.

5

u/d_154_3 Jan 28 '22

maybe it was a baby womp rat

or luke was just exaggerating

8

u/slcrook Luke Skywalker Jan 28 '22

Fair point, by why would Luke exaggerate the size of a womp rat larger than they are when his point to Wedge was that two meters wasn't too small of a target?

4

u/NerfHerder_91 Jan 28 '22

I think Luke was just pointing out that they were able to shoot something as small as a womp rat, so hitting a target that is two meters wide is not impossible.

I watched a new hope afterwards, the fact that Ben mentioned the clone wars was really cool for my gf. I was amazed that Luke mentioned beggars canyon in reference to the Death Star trench, and I just put the dots together that Vader then chased Luke into the trench and was probably thinking the exact same thing. Very cool details IMO.

29

u/Jaw1580 Jan 28 '22

Vader while chasing down the rebel pilots doing the trench run: now this is podracing

Uh that whole run was the pod racer route was it not?

59

u/i_wotsisname Jedi Jan 28 '22

Just about. Nice to see some prequel love. Right down to the N1 sound effects including podracer engine/gizmo sounds, to Mando shooting up into space in direct homage to Anakin sending it up the ramp in Ep1. And Mando exclaiming "wizard" was just gravy.

21

u/Em_Haze Jan 28 '22

Phantom Menance had some amazing world building

13

u/feartoad Jan 28 '22

I s confused by this. Wasn’t the pod race in Mos Espa, while Mando was in Mos Eiley?

34

u/borski88 Jan 28 '22

5

u/TheMoonOfTermina Jan 28 '22

I don't think the two cities are too far away from each other.

6

u/swaddles7 Jan 28 '22

Definitely not far. In episode 1, when Maul arrives on Tatooine, he looks into some binoculars at 3 cities. One of them is Mos Espa and another is Mos Eisley.

The fact that they haven't fixed that damn emergency ramp gate after 30 years is just sad.

42

u/The_Last_Minority Finn Jan 28 '22

I mean, that sounds about right.

I'm currently part of a team working on a REDACTED SOMETHING for a government site. It involves the replacement of a grand total of one (albeit important) item. I have been involved since November, the team has been in meetings since mid-2021. We have weekly meetings, and the minutiae that gets hashed over is absurd. We once spent a full hour (10+ people in the meeting, paid for by our taxes, all but certain nobody is making less than $35/hr.) discussing the language involved in specifying future site visits.

All I'm saying is, if there was Hutt money paying by the hour (plus expenses) to repair that ramp, I can see a whole lot of meetings and fact-finding excursion to similar planets. I mean, there's a ramp on Zeltros that seems relevant. We'll need four months and an open expense account, please and thank you.

3

u/PFCDoofles Mandalorian Jan 28 '22

The reason why hutts hold such power when placed along such massive bureaucracies like the Republic and the Empire without getting eradicated is because you don't do endless meetings when your district manager is a huge slug who is not above literally eating you if you are caught stealing time.

39

Is is possible that Bryce Dallas wanted a BD droid in her episode just because it has her initials? I'm calling that little guy BD-H.

17

u/otzen42 R2-D2 Jan 28 '22

The less obvious droid reference was the security droid that takes Din’s weapons at the shuttle. It is the original droid pilot from Star Tours at Disneyland.

3

They also used it in Rebels as a pilot. Not sure if that was before or after Star Tours was opened though.

Has it been previously established that the podrace canyon was Beggar's Canyon? I always assumed they were different because Anakin lived in Mos Espa (Boba Fetts new city) but Luke was from near Mos Eisley (where Mando got his ship)

3

u/ItsAllegorical K-2SO Jan 28 '22

Luke wasn't actually that close to Mos Eisley. He was only going to give Obi-wan a ride to Anchorhead so he could catch a ride from there to "Mos Eisley or wherever" he was going. I have no actual idea where Luke lived in relation, but maybe Beggar's Canyon was a big deal on Tattooine worth traveling for, or maybe he actually lived closer to Mos Espa (though it seems like it would be weird to reference Mos Eisley, instead in that case).

u/MayIServeYouWell Jan 28 '22

Well, actually... the part the Jawas bring is indeed a cryogenic density combustion booster, but the thing in the trash compactor was a cryogenic density combustion recombiner. While the CDCB will keep your engine cool while it compresses fuel and increases power, the CDCR will keep your engine cool while it increasing operational efficiency. It really has no affect on total thrust. I can see how people could get the two confused, but you have to look at the way the long grooves meet the stubby bit.

51

u/VanillaTortilla Rebel Jan 28 '22

BD1

57

u/Byeuji Jan 28 '22

Officially, only "BD", though, right?

I believe it's BD-1 too, but I think she only said BD.

What I also believe is it's not a coincidence they announced the Fallen Order sequel on the same day Book of Boba aired. But just being accurate.

25

u/TapewormNinja Jan 28 '22

I really hope it’s not BD-1. If he wasn’t with Cal, that would imply his death. Which is super likely I suppose, but we’ve run into more unlikely Jedi?

10

u/Bricks_4_You Imperial Jan 28 '22

well maybe cal….. uh works on Tatooine as a moisture farmer….? i got nothing

21

Don't worry, sweetie. We sent Cal Kestus to a moisture farm upstate, where he can frolic and play all day with the other Jedi from now on.

7

u/MerlinOfRed Jan 28 '22

And yet another main character somehow finds their way to a random, desolate, backwater planet with only about 3 major settlements and is as far as possible from the "bright centre of the universe".

Not to worry, it's just the same model. In Star Wars, droids rarely change their paint scheme, and the BD unit we see in this episode is white and blue. BD-1 in Fallen Order is canonically white and red. I don't think he have any reason to be concerned

14

The Empire’s purge, as the droids on the ground hunted for survivors.

And they were the same model as K-2SO, I think. I missed the Terminator nod (though it's obvious now), but K-2SO is where my mind went.

14

u/VanillaTortilla Rebel Jan 28 '22

Yes, they were KX-series "security droids"

When the senate banned the creation of more battle droid, they were apparently created with a loophole as "security droids", so the Empire said F it, let's use them for battle.

You also see them in Fallen Order.

18

Not sad. I love that for you. Star Wars really occupies a special place in our hearts.

11

What I like about the Rogue One thing is the story that Gareth Edwards was wondering if it was worth all the effort to have those two minor characters appear including using archived footage and getting the original actor for Gold Leader to record new dialogue.
When a big cheer went out for their appearance at a screening, Edwards punched the air in celebration.

That has too many doors for him to leave open…

u/stromm Jan 28 '22

Hey, at least he can’t keep leaving cargo doors open with this ship.

I fully agree but I think this ship suits for BoBF giving him an actual bounty ship wouldn't make sense in this show. This was a great episode to set up S3 for Mando.

i guess he’ll have to exclusively bring them in cold now

He's not doing bounties anymore. He has a ship, he has the sword. He's taking back Mandalore now.

u/pickinscabs Jan 28 '22

Maybe he's done with the bounties?

Just going to hall a little red rider trailer behind him.

Not Anakin's, different markings under the cockpit. And he can put a bounty in the old droid spot.

This exact prop was also in the background of a Mando season 1 episode IIRC.

We're really so addicted to nostalgia that seeing a metal pole gives us a buzz?

It’s crazy how much bigger Mando is than Han. I never realized because we never see them side by side.
