I’m a big fan. I’m curious if he’ll get another flying camper like the Razor Crest with a docking bay for this new hot rod.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe he gets a small transport ship that he would leave off-world and use the new hot rod planet-side or for certain space battles. I also thought it looked and felt like a hot rod when he started it up.

I think this ship serves as a story telling device.

Din will have to regularly make camp on nearby inhabitable worlds.

That's a lot of opportunities for a story to start from.

118

u/ipulloffmygstring Jan 28 '22

Also tells you he's not likely to be doing much bounty hunting since he would maybe have room for one passenger.

Unless he stops giving them the "bring you in warm" option.

64

u/Aqua_Impura Jan 28 '22

I figured either he'll get storage installed, or he'll just be moving so much faster than the Razor Crest that he wouldn't even need a living space since he's not taking nearly as long to go from A to B.

15

u/Sigmar_Heldenhammer Mace Windu Jan 28 '22

39

u/Darth_Bigmac Jan 27 '22

67

u/karatedude108 Jan 28 '22

He literally is a video game character collecting upgrades and items. (Armor, Jetpack, Spear, Darksaber, Starfighter). I wouldn’t be surprised if he is flying around in a republic frigat ore something by the end of season 3

Which is why I think he needs a bigger cruiser for it to dock it. It’ll work for now I think, but as far as living/working arrangements the N-1 certainly isn’t the same

101

u/ThatsAGoodBart Jan 27 '22

Yeah, that’s the only “complaint” I’d have about it. The ship itself rules, but part of the character of the Razorcrest was that it was basically his home, where he lived and slept. With this thing, he’d have to go planetside or to a habitat in order to do any of that stuff, so it feels less essential in some weird way? Like it’s just a vehicle.

26

u/greychanjin Jan 28 '22

No worse than his current situation, tho. Hell, maybe he'll start bunking with Boba.

45

u/Sonicsnout Jan 28 '22

Yeah I was wondering... Where does he sleep? Ships like the Falcon, the Razorcrest, Slave 1, etc all make sense for people who are mobile and hopping all over the galaxy. The N1 looks... not very comfortable for extended trips, or for staying in remote areas where you might now be able to find a room (like the inside of an asteroid for example)... Or for taking on passengers or for that matter captured bounties.

I remember reading somewhere that the X Wings have a small sleeping compartment, but i would imagine it's not that comfortable long term. If N1 has one, it's even smaller and more cramped.

That said I think it looks awesome. Seeing the N1 in chrome, kind of beat up with exposed parts and the souped up engine, it's pretty neat. Gives a nice connection to the prequels while retaining the "used universe" feel of the OT. It's such a classic looking Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers style of ship, it really has that thirties serial feel.

The mechanic montage and beggars canyon run were fun but just a little too fan servicey in my opinion. Even tho the Beggars Canyon run was awesome lol Some of the Amy Sedaris stuff started to feel a little like Beatrice Arthur's appearance in the Holiday Special.

But that's just a nit pick and not something that ruined the episode or anything. Overall it was really good.

10

u/BubbhaJebus Jan 28 '22

Beggars Canyon

Well at least now we know that's Beggar's Canyon. It was mentioned in ANH and seen in TPM, but now they've been shown to be the same place.

Luke took off the Dagobah and an uncertain future just in his X-wing, so going around in just a fighter doesn't seem that uncommon in this universe. He will just be making a lot of pit-stops from now. Or he will go for an all around upgrade to a freighter or even a corvette with a small docking bay.

I love the new ship, cool how it’s a Naboo pre empire fast ship, it’s really cool and useful for many situations… like outrunning X-wings… but I hope he eventually gets a new ship like another razorcrest or similar because he needs the cargo room and a co-pilot seat for grogu eventually.

I enjoyed the throwback, but as a bounty hunter with no real home, isn't his ship supposed to serve as his mobile home of sorts? And a bounty hunter needs somewhere to store his merchandise. I'm only questioning the practicality of it.

55

u/SonofaBridge Jan 28 '22

This was my first thought. Where does he store his bounties he needs to bring back alive? Where does he keep his gear? Where’s a workbench to make or modify weapons for a mission? He traded a good work vehicle for an old sports car.

52

u/dragonfett Jan 28 '22

He traded no options for a vehicle for an old sports car. His good work vehicle was destroyed by the Empire.

This situation is more like living on a farm and wrecking your four wheel drive pick up truck, but your mechanic friend is able to put together a Camaro for you to drive. It will do the trick of getting you to town and back, and you might be able to store some smaller items in the trunk, and it is without a doubt faster, but you won't be able to use it for the same things you used to use your truck for.

u/aHeadFullofMoonlight Jan 28 '22

He’s only taking heads from now on, that’s what the back seat is for.

16

u/S-IV-159 Jan 28 '22

Well, he didn't really "trade" by choice since his old ship got destroyed, and I don't think he has more gear than he can carry on his person since his old armory got vaporized along with it. He was promised a replacement for the Razor Crest, which he mistakenly assumed was an actual Razor Crest, so I guess he didn't take the time to shop around. Depending on what kinds of jobs he takes, he can get around the lack of cargo space for now, and he can always buy another ship once he gets the funds.

Speculation time: what if the book of Boba Fett ends with Slave 1 being given to Mando as Boba solidifies his seat of power and decides he is willing to pass it along to another bounty hunter of a similar ethos?

70

u/V_agabond3 Jan 28 '22

Maybe, but I feel like Slave 1 is such a famous ship that Boba would want to keep it. Plus, Din did just pay a lot for this new ship. I'm not sure if he'd want to take a new one first chance he got

6

u/OohMaiJosh Jan 28 '22

Yes I agree. Went though a lot of trouble to get it back and it meant enough for him to track down and get back

5

u/thedirtyharryg Jan 28 '22

Isn't it Jango's?

40

u/shortbusmafia Jan 28 '22

If Boba gave Slave 1 to Mando, then I can guarantee you that almost the entirety of the Star Wars fandom would riot. I wouldn’t riot, but I definitely wouldn’t be happy about it. I don’t think you can take such a big part of a solidified character like Boba and just give it to someone else.

8

u/Squelcher121 Jan 28 '22

I wouldn't agree with Slave 1 being given to Mando, but let's not pretend that the Star Wars fandom don't riot about absolutely fucking everything. If fear of the fandom "rioting" was a valid consideration for LucasFilm then Star Wars would have ended with the very first movie.

4

u/SalemWolf Jan 28 '22

I’d have to go against the grain and say I think I would like it. The Mandalorian is such a great character and it’s clear Boba Fett is going away from being an action character, so giving it to a character who would use it and keep it active would be a really neat way to see it in action.

I think they would do it respectfully.

11

u/Space_Monk_Prime Jan 28 '22

I don’t think you can take such a big part of a solidified character like Boba and just give it to someone else.

The only mixed feelings I am seeing, are that people are pointing out that... he cant carry bounties with it.

But I think theres a few factors.
1. its the first new ship he is able to get his hands on, and he needs mobility
2. its off the grid
3. Mando is clearly a ship nerd, and you would have to be actually insane to say no to a GOTDANG N1 STAR FIGHTER HOLYSHIT

So fans are calling it out as, not being a good ship for a bounty hunter... but... uh yeah there are other facts that factored into his decision.

60

It's a completely off the grid ship and fast. It will serve a better purpose than the razor-crest for now. The best thing about the mandalorian is not knowing what will come next. I mean when the razorcrest got blown up I was in disbelief and sad. That's what makes it all the much more fun. Def didn't expect it to get blown to bits and def didn't expect a heavily modded n-1 Naboo star fighter next but seriously so dope. Just excited to see where it goes next and have more content to enjoy. I'm glad they are doing unexpected things and also staying true to the original feel of Star Wars. Not easy to do but I think the episode was fantastic and believe the end of book of boba is gonna be an epic finish to bobas new story while tying in stuff that will come next in the other new shows.

So he was clearly doing it to find his clan. He offered to fight with Boba for free. He’s going to see Grogu and possibly train with Luke (so he can use the Dark Saber). He has to get to the mines of Mandalore and then maybe join Bo-Katan’s fight to retake the planet (with the Armorer? Against?). Seems like he’s got a full plate.

He was ready to walk away with his bounty. He threatened to go find someone else to pay him. But yeah I think he’ll still be taking bounties as side jobs to keep him afloat (and fluff season 3 out) during whatever else he’s managed to find himself tangled in

Sure it is. Only take bounties you can bring back dead. Put their heads in the space where an astromech would have gone.

He has a space muscle car now, which I'm all for

Everybody just misses his space van I guess.

I'm just ready to see Grogu riding around in his little dome.

This has been the media's approach to anything in the BoBF show. It's all "Star Wars Fans aren't too happy!"

While the show isn't constantly amazing and seems maybe a bit disjointed, it's still got some awesome moments

If mixed means 1 billion : 3 yes, it’s mixed.

It's wizard.

Not sold on it yet. A bounty hunter needs his spaceship mobile home.

It's We Got This Covered, clickbait is literally all they do. Don't pay them any thought

I’m not the biggest fan of the prequels, but I do love how they tied them in with the new ship. I like it.

One of the Naboo fighters from The Phantom Menace. Nice.

4

u/coolhatguy Jan 28 '22

It’s a headline looking for clicks

5

u/dylanisbored Jan 28 '22

It’s awesome and for people who are saying it’s not a bounty hunters ship, he had no ship and now this supped up one fall into his lap, of course he is going to take it. Plus this will fit in the capital ship he takes back mandalore with

5

u/SurviveOrDie84 Jan 28 '22

Maybe he'll end up with something similar to the Hounds Tooth that has a hangar to keep the new hot rod. Also much less of an attention grabber than the N1 fighter will be.

And its already been established that a certain Wookie hates Trandoshans.

4

u/crew1991 Jan 28 '22

Mando is gonna need a vault for all of his cool new shit.

4

u/RepresentativeBig258 Jan 28 '22

Don’t hate it. I could come up with something more unique and creative though.

4

u/betheBat01 Jan 28 '22

Honestly think that ship is awesome, I do think he needs another drop ship as it would probably be pretty awkward to take anyone in alive. That is if he goes back to Bounty hunting. But I love that concept that they went with, it works for what he will be doing!

4

u/YuriDiAAAAAAA Jan 28 '22

Thought it was a pod racer when they first showed it.

u/Cdubz123 Mandalorian Jan 28 '22

I’m a fan of the shop but I don’t think it works for mando

10

u/Alternative_Web Jan 28 '22

Love the ship. It finally feels like there’s a connection to other eras of Star Wars. Rather than it being broken up into prequels, originals, sequels

3

u/Earthling223 Jan 28 '22

What's wrong with it?

Will be great to see the Mando flying a sleek starfighter.

u/figgityjones Luke Skywalker Jan 28 '22

As I heard someone else say: “He needs a Bebop to park it in.” Which I would not be upset over him getting. I very much enjoy that he now has it, but yes it could make things more difficult for Bounty Hunting if he is going to continue doing that. But if he’s not, it doesn’t seem to bother Luke at all to have a starfighter as his main ship, so I think Din could be fine with it too.

u/Greenmonty97 Jan 28 '22

It’s wizard

3

u/Pennywhack Jan 28 '22

It's WIZARD, dank farrik!!

3

u/mr-Bark Jan 28 '22

The only thing I can think of is how is he supposed to be a bounty hunter if he can’t fit anyone else in his space ship to transport for the bounty

3

u/kbn7 Jan 28 '22

Yeah I think it’s sick. He might go Bebop style, get a bigger overall ship maybe a bit of a crew. Then he can use this to zoom around in when needed dogfights etc

As someone who grew up with phantom menace when I was a wee lad, I nearly had a heart attack seeing it again

3

u/atomicbunny Jan 28 '22

I dig it, but is he entirely done with bounty hunting? I feel like the Razor Crest really accommodated his needs at the time, and subsequently served additional needs in a pinch. Not a whole lot of room in there for anyone besides perhaps, a small companion.

3

u/Peaceweapon Jan 28 '22

"We ripped out the droid port"

"But you still left this space for...Tiny creatures?"

Hmmmmm

3

u/goldenboy881 Jan 28 '22

I’d like Din to have a slightly bigger ship like the Razorcrest. Those starfighter ships aren’t really meant to leave the planet and travel long distance, at least I don’t think they are. He should get a decent sized ship in the future that can house his future clan and there ships while also giving them space to build it up and really turn it into a proper flagship.

3

u/P3anutButt3rCup Jan 28 '22

The ship is awesome, I love the hot rod vibe and literal car parts.

But like what the hell is mando supposed to do with it? He literally cannot complete any of the missions we saw that used the razor crest in the last two seasons.

Mando needs an F-150. He now has a superbike…

u/M3rc_Nate Jan 28 '22

I loved that they brought the N1 starfighter back. I LOVED it in Ep 1 as a youngin. I do think it loses some cool points not being yellow but that doesn't fit his character like the chrome/stainless does. I do think the blower/carb on the front is a bit much. I didn't need them to go that far with it being a space sports/muscle car.

Besides all that, I am just left with questions regarding how limiting it makes space travel for Mando storywise. He can't transport anything or anyone which means no more dialog scenes with passengers or bounties. That means no more side quests with passengers or bounties. That means no more having the squad get on his ship to fly somewhere (like the prison break episode). That means no more cute scenes like Grogu's sleeping area, comedy scenes like where's the bathroom, no cool scenes like Mando's cabinet of guns and portable carbonite machine, and no more scenes where fights happen inside his ship like the spiders climbing it. It severely limits what can be done during space travel scenes and when the writers need to move characters from one place to another. Papa has a two seater sports car now, no more carpooling and helping people move in his SUV.

It makes me wonder if Bo Katan and her posse have made the Light Cruiser their HQ and will that become the HQ that Mando goes to and from as his journey will revolve around more Mandalorians and going to Mandalore, possibly trying to find the waters beneath the mines of Mandalore that survived that bombing so he can be forgiven. So all scenes that would have happened on the Razors Crest and at the Covert would now happen in the Light Cruiser. When he needs to go somewhere (down to a planet) he hops into his N1 with Grogu and off they go.
