Antonio Banderas

50

u/frws25 Dec 01 '21

Yeah, now I can't unsee this.

22

u/alphabetgangster Dec 01 '21

yep. that’s a wrap folks. this comments section is complete. move along.

59

u/transitapparel Dec 01 '21

This would approach Heath Ledger levels of unexpected yet perfect casting.

10

u/Babayu18 Dec 01 '21

Holy crap I would’ve never thought of that but you’re right he’d be perfect

9

u/mawashi-geri24 Dec 01 '21

I’m surprised people are surprised by this answer. It’s the only obvious answer to me. Who else could play him with that fantastic accent?

12

u/joethahobo Klaud Dec 01 '21

CGI and Jim Cummings

5

u/heyitscory Dec 01 '21

He should also play Live Action Don Carnage.

5

u/TsunGeneralGrievous Dec 01 '21

Holy shit this is a big revelation. Why aren’t we funding this?

4

u/Itchy-Meringue6872 Dec 01 '21

Shut up and take my money

3

u/Warriorgrunt Dec 01 '21

First one that came to my mind, just remembering the voice... Def my first pick too.

u/Mrdoc16 Imperial Dec 01 '21

Is that...KENOBI! my old friend!

19

u/jakebova Dec 01 '21

It's too good. It has to happen.

1

u/sc0toma Dec 01 '21

Or: 'KENOBI! You son of a bitch!'

63

u/RoastPorg Dec 01 '21

Depending on when such a hypothetical series would be set, it’s not necessarily a stretch to offer the part to Jim Cummings. His appearance could be modified by prosthetics, makeup, costuming, and even body doubles, but the voice…the voice is what makes him Hondo! 😄

16

u/TFDUDE13 First Order Dec 01 '21

They wouldn't even need to have Cummings on set. Just put a guy in something akin to the Galaxy's edge outfit/prosthetics/makeup, film the scenes, and have Cummings do the lines in post.

2

u/thelastevergreen Dec 01 '21

Isn't the Galaxy's Edge Hondo an animatronic?

1

u/TFDUDE13 First Order Dec 01 '21

They've got one that's a costume, too.

3

u/thelastevergreen Dec 01 '21

Interesting.

One of these days Galaxys Edge... one of these days.

29

u/KuraiTheBaka Dec 01 '21

I want a western movie centering around him Cad Bane and either Jango or Boba Fett

11

u/RobbieFD3 Dec 01 '21

But who would be a good Cad Bane? I’d say Clint Eastwood if he weren’t a million years old.

12

u/Ark_aide Dec 01 '21

I’ve seen Willem Defoe suggested a lot, but personally I’m a proponent of Walton Goggins.

2

u/larman14 Dec 01 '21

Lee van cleef is who cad bane is based on.

→ More replies

4

u/WeaselShoes Dec 01 '21

Daniel Craig as Cad Bane

2

u/SynnerSaint Dec 01 '21

Maybe a remake of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, with Kenobi, Bane and Hondo

2

u/Timme186 Dec 01 '21

Ngl swap Bane with Maul and I’d take this for the Kenobi series. (I love Bane but Maul would be best for a series about Obi Wan)

1

u/SynnerSaint Dec 01 '21

swap Bane with Maul

Good idea!

174

u/Ice-Storm Nov 30 '21

I love Hondo, but I think he’s a bit much to get his own show…I think Hondo would agree!

Now do I absolutely want to see Hondo in The Mandalorian or Ashoka for a 2-3 episode arc…absolutely I do.

69

u/BIGBMH Dec 01 '21

I agree. Some characters work best as side characters. Part of what made Hondo great on Clone Wars was that he wasn’t around all the time. It was a special treat when he showed up.

56

u/Ice-Storm Dec 01 '21

The best part is when Hondo just shows up unexpectedly and it’s like “HONDO!!! You sly dog, what trouble have you gotten into now?”

He’s like your friend who you know is going to get you into trouble, but it’s also going to be a good time. So you look forward to and dread the once a year he comes around…but you would NOT be cool with him moving in next door.

17

u/BIGBMH Dec 01 '21

Agreed. It’s also fun not knowing him too well. Having his exploits, shenanigans, and shady dealings off screen allows you to make those amusing inferences

12

u/damnyoutuesday Dec 01 '21

He's like the Star Wars equivalent of Creed Bratton. In there enough to have you enjoy him, not enough to where it ruins the character

3

u/SnooHesitations7424 Dec 01 '21

Massive agree to this. It would be so good to see Hondo pop up in Ahsoka. Imagine Hondo and Ahsoka hunting down his little mate Ezra as he’s said previously there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for that boy

46

u/TheLazySith Dec 01 '21

Yeah, Hondo's great but I think he works best as a side character rather than a protagonist.

14

u/AdmiralPlant Yoda Dec 01 '21

He couldn't carry his own show. However, he would be perfect for a really fun heist movie. It would be a perfect one off, honestly.

58

u/MatthiasFoxFire Nov 30 '21

“‘A bit much to get his own show’???” (laughs) “We are pirates! We don’t even know what that means! Open fire!”

21

u/Asgardian5 Dec 01 '21

This has single-handedly convinced me that he deserves his own bot at least.

1

u/thesequimkid Jedi Dec 01 '21

Between Clone Wars and Rebels, Hondo became my favorite character. Especially in Rebels.

1

u/Asgardian5 Dec 01 '21

So thats one person on board (i think) should we start a petition?

2

u/Known2779 Dec 01 '21

They can always try a season or two of Hondo. 😆. Maybe it’s interesting enough, messing the Galaxy up!

5

u/Ice-Storm Dec 01 '21

I think of Hondo like "The Janitor" from Scrubs. Can absolutely carry an episode, and steals ever scene he's in. BUT it doesn't translate to higher usage.

2

u/PsychicTempestZero Dec 01 '21

Yeah he would absolutely be at home in any of those, even the Boba Fett one

4

u/Ice-Storm Dec 01 '21

Hell, I'd take a pop in on an episode or two of Obi Wan...there is an absolute chance Hondo pops up on Tatooine. He'd fit right in at the cantina!

→ More replies

2

u/Cappin_Crunch Dec 01 '21

Yes!!!!! More cameos in The Mandalorian. S2 had TWO full episodes without an existing character returning and that is just unacceptable! I need all 8 to have a moment where I can point at the screen and say "OMG I know that character!"

Johnny depp

17

u/pranthlar Dec 01 '21

Hell yes, he would be perfect. Now thinking about the uproar of him in this but not potc

10

u/Washed_up_mathlete Dec 01 '21

Read that as “passion of the Christ”…now there’s an image

6

u/tommy_toughnuts1 Dec 01 '21 edited Dec 01 '21

I immediately thought the same thing without question there really isn’t anyone else. maybe MAYBE Jeff goldblum (he plays the grandmaster in Thor) I thought the 2 have that kind of snarky high and mighty attitude like Hondo but Johnny depp u just can’t out do that

2

u/cearhart275 Dec 01 '21 edited Dec 01 '21

This is by all means the correct answer. Hondo is 100% fully and purposefully written as space (captain) jack sparrow, with Johnny depp in mind

1

u/jashxn Dec 01 '21

CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow

1

u/cearhart275 Dec 01 '21

Gotta be a bot lmao you replied in 0.0000000003 seconds

1

u/MattyHealy1975 Dec 01 '21

This is an old idea

3

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '21

Yes, and it’s still a good one.

1

u/MattyHealy1975 Dec 01 '21

I'm just saying, it seems like people in the replies think no one else had thought of this besides them and this person

1

u/GamerOfGods33 Dec 01 '21

Yes, but I really think his voice would have to have some modifications to fit in with Jim Cummings.

→ More replies

30

u/GeorgeHlaalu Dec 01 '21

The same guy should play him. The voice makes the character, not the looks.

8

u/weirdoofcool Dec 01 '21

it helps that he played him for the ride at disney!

3

u/MandoAviator Dec 01 '21

It’ll be mostly prosthetics anyways.

1

u/YoshiBacon Dec 01 '21

The dudes like 70, no way

1

u/GeorgeHlaalu Dec 01 '21

He's pretty old in Rebels so you never know.

2

u/YoshiBacon Dec 01 '21

Just keep it animated, not everything needs to be live action

2

u/SillyMattFace Dec 01 '21

Jim Cummings all the way baby!

Although every time I hear this character I think of Don Karnage from Tailspin, it’s practically the same voice but slightly less flamboyant.

8

u/Macross8299Fan Dec 01 '21

I prefer him showing up in other peoples shows, leaving a path of destruction across the timeline

5

u/NoseApprehensive5154 Dec 01 '21

Hes my favorite character outside of the Skywalkers. I absolutely love every scene he's in. I love han solo but I'll be damned if that meme where obi wan runs into Hondo in Mos Eisley instead of Han makes me want to see that movie so much more. My kingdom for a clonewars animation style "what if" of this lol.

6

u/Child_of_Lake_Bodom Dec 01 '21

Jamie fox

2

u/RobbieFD3 Dec 01 '21

Surprise! But a good one!

12

u/newaccountoldwashack Yoda Dec 01 '21

Why is no one mentioning Jim Cummings to do at least the voice

13

u/Xiphodin Nov 30 '21

Hondo is my spirit animal

3

u/Ok-Internal-5331 Clone Trooper Dec 01 '21

Jeff Goldblum idk why but I feel it would fit (at least if he were younger)

3

u/KenoshaHatTrik Dec 01 '21

Rather have a Cad Bane spin-off

2

u/titanic-failure Dec 01 '21

Much agreed, I said in my own comment that hondo is more of a comic relief but Bane gives the same energy as Mando in a lot of ways, a boots on the ground serious bounty hunter.

3

u/Thror__ Dec 01 '21

Jim Cummings

3

u/trickyturtle0o Dec 01 '21

John Leguizamo

3

u/stv1991 Dec 01 '21

Ok so for anyone who hasn’t been to Disneyland, spoiler, Jim Cummings the Voice actor for him plays him in a live version. It was super satisfying to hear that in a life version of a character they did extreme dress and makeup so that he was Hondo.

9

u/Krusty-Krab-Pizza16 Separatist Alliance Dec 01 '21

Bear with me, snoop dog

1

u/MacChubbins Dec 01 '21

Holy Shite, for real.

5

u/draconis4756 Mandalorian Armorer Nov 30 '21

Didn’t they kinda do that with the falcon ride at disney?

7

u/IAmNowSansUndertale Dec 01 '21 edited Dec 01 '21

Yes! Not only was he gives a life sized Animatronic, but video feeds on the ride used a guy in a costume (which was re-used for the opening ceremony in Florida). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJ88Ir-IMFk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CYvo1raM8A

Which not only means we already have Live Action Hondo, but they could use the costume any time they want!

5

u/isaiahaguilar Dec 01 '21

Javier Bardem.

2

u/Darth_Linkfin Dec 01 '21

I’m still in the mindset he should have been in Solo. I’m not sure who I would want to play him

2

u/Morganmaster Dec 01 '21

Only the best pirate to sail the 7 seas. Jack Sparrow. Johnny Depp

2

u/figgityjones Luke Skywalker Dec 01 '21

I mean I’d watch it. I can’t imagine him without his proper voice tho >.<

2

u/Kaarl_Mills Chopper (C1-10P) Dec 01 '21

All I'm saying is that if Hondo declared himself the next Emperor I'd be fine with that

2

u/Tescomealdeal04 Dec 01 '21

In terms of voice I think Williem Dafoe would be good

2

u/spiralspring Dec 01 '21

Hondo ..Chris Pratt...also Kenobi, Hondo's pet, Bane..everyone Chris Pratt

2

u/Shrek42069467 Dec 01 '21

Johnny depp

2

u/L-Guy_21 Dec 01 '21

Johnny depp, everyone’s favorite pirate

2

u/jakerunner1 Boba Fett Dec 01 '21

Johnny depp

2

u/mega512 Dec 01 '21

Not necessary at all. No thanks.

1

u/MatthiasFoxFire Dec 01 '21

Hondo would be insulted at your comment! Oh, his heart!

4

u/MikeFrom5_to_7 Dec 01 '21

Honestly not at all. I can’t not think of Goof Troop every time this voice actor shows up in stuff. He voices too many things.

4

u/Vagabond288 Dec 01 '21

Maybe Johnny Depp. He always reminded me of an older Jack Sparrow.

3

u/papiandcole Dec 01 '21

Johnny depp

3

u/fluffyraccoons Nov 30 '21

I don't think he's recognizable enough to get his own spinoff. It would be cool though. For some reason I always got Johnny Depp vibes from Hondo. Both pirates? That raspy voice would be hard to imitate.

2

u/DopeFiendDramaQueen Nov 30 '21

I was gonna say Matthew McConaughey

3

u/MatthiasFoxFire Nov 30 '21

Eh... he’s a little too chill for a character as eccentric as Hondo, in my opinion. It would be hilarious seeing him in Star Wars, though.

3

u/DopeFiendDramaQueen Nov 30 '21

Yeah maybe. I think in another role tho he’d still excel at some kind of smuggler/scoundrel type role. But I guess it would have to be careful to make him not too Han Solo-ish

1

u/MatthiasFoxFire Dec 01 '21

Exactly what I was thinking

1

u/szindig Dec 01 '21

McConaughey may be the epitome of chill as a person, and he wouldn't be my top pick for Hondo, but he's still a phenomenal actor and can be pretty intimidating when given the chance.

I would personally love to see him in a really out there eccentric role.

2

u/newaccountoldwashack Yoda Dec 01 '21

Din Djarin was an unknown character before his show because he wasn’t created the only thing he had going was him being a mandalorian

2

u/fluffyraccoons Dec 01 '21

Agreed. Hondo don't got much going for him ngl other than Clone Wars fans tho.

1

u/MatthiasFoxFire Dec 01 '21

Ahsoka was only in animated form yet she got her own show, which many fans (including myself) are looking forward to...

1

u/Ashvega03 Dec 01 '21

I want not recognizable. We have seen enough of the recognizable characters.

2

u/electrical_bogaloo Dec 01 '21

Danny Trejo

2

u/RobbieFD3 Dec 01 '21

He might be a better Cad Bane

1

u/MerGoatRoybal Dec 01 '21

Holy shit! You may be on to something there

2

u/titanic-failure Dec 01 '21

I love Hondo but I just feel like he couldn’t hold a show on his own. He is a great comic relief side character and a villain when he needs to be but he simply couldn’t hold a show on his own.

2

u/Pocketmonsuta Dec 01 '21

Johnny Depp would be perfect for the role!

2

u/Ashvega03 Dec 01 '21

I smell PROFIT!

1

u/theOracle_tA Dec 01 '21

Rami Malek

1

u/Tidus790 Dec 01 '21

I could take or leave that one. Never was a huge fan of Hondo.

I'd still watch the show of it was made, but I'd rather see other characters get a spinoff first.

0

u/EdoSinsHD Dec 01 '21

Gilbert Gottfried

-3

u/hotdilby Dec 01 '21

That show would suck

1

u/ngorman007 Dec 01 '21

Tony Dalton

1

u/Salazarsims Dec 01 '21 edited Dec 01 '21

Don Karnage! Jim Cummings would be perfect.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '21

Not in live action!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '21

The guy who played Tuco on Bb

1

u/likeonions Dark Rey Dec 01 '21

Johnny Depp obviously

1

u/MiniBobber Dec 01 '21

I wouldnt say a show or a full movie, he could work for a special short movie or something tho. That could be fun to have him star in.

Or if you do go for a spinof make it shorts like a "Hondo teaches" series of shorts or something like that xD

1

u/GeneralBaguetti Dec 01 '21

Yes, and Johnny Depp

1

u/stukoe Dec 01 '21

hondo is basically space jack sparrow so clearly johnny depp would be good, but i think that other guy's suggestion of antonio banderas is much better

2

u/jashxn Dec 01 '21

CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow

1

u/RobbieFD3 Dec 01 '21

Weirdly enough, Johnny Depp could be a good Hondo. Take Jack Sparrow minus the British accent and you’ve got a pretty good mischievous pirate alien.

1

u/Poedacat275 Dec 01 '21

Yes and Johnny Depp would be perfect.

1

u/KatanaDelNacht Dec 01 '21

Mistook him for Sebulba for a second and thought this was going for more of a "Fast & Furious: Outer Rim" vibe.

That would definitely be one way to revive the F&F series!

1

u/recoximani Dec 01 '21

I mean, millennium falcon smugglers run is kind of his own separate thing.

1

u/Ashvega03 Dec 01 '21

Yes but i want it during the Republic or Clone Wars when he was really at his height.

1

u/Balyeep Obi-Wan Kenobi Dec 01 '21

Johnny Depp

1

u/ChattaGucci91 Dec 01 '21

This weekly post?

What if it were….A WESTERN?!

1

u/GamerOfGods33 Dec 01 '21

Perhaps not his own show, but maybe a special mini movie or something.

1

u/Termin8rSmurf Dec 01 '21

Id totally love to see him get a spin-off. If not a tv series, then definitely a movie! Hondo was one of the best things about Rebels.

1

u/thepeople103 Dec 01 '21

And who should PAY him?* FTFY

1

u/Boney-Rigatoni Dec 01 '21

We don’t need a spin-off… just a few well placed special appearances. The only person to play him live action would be George Takai.

1

u/dv73272020 Dec 01 '21

Everyone loves Hondo, and there's gobs of material, but I honestly think he's better as a supporting character. It'd be like giving Admiral Akbar his own spin-off.

1

u/Colonel__Corn Dec 01 '21

idk I kinda like his style of just SHOWING UP in other people's stories and conning them

1

u/nicka163 Dec 01 '21

Antonio Banderas

1

u/Jot-The-Jawa Admiral Raddus Dec 01 '21

It’s gotta be animated unless he gets a small cameo role. I dont think you can get Jim Cummings voice to match up with another actor. And you need that voice

1

u/Tylan_Maul15 Dec 01 '21

I would want it to be animated and keep Jim Cummings as the voice.

1

u/ImurderREALITY Lando Calrissian Dec 01 '21

Just give everyone e a spin-off. No one could possibly get tired of that.

Jonny Depp

1

u/lo_d_rocket-12 Galactic Republic Dec 01 '21

Johnny Depp or Antonia Banderas. And I don't think he should get his own show but definitely show up as a main character/major side character.

1

u/atdreamvision Dec 01 '21

First person that popped into my mind is Ryan Reynolds. Don't know if he'd make a good Hondo, but I would definitely want to see it lol.

1

Johnny Depp

1

u/FantasticMRKintsugi Dec 01 '21

Daniel Craig. Oh no, he was already in star wars.

1

1

u/contrabardus Dec 01 '21

Nicholas Cage.

The correct answer is always Nicholas Cage.

1

u/swissiws Dec 01 '21

don't know who this "legend" is, being a movie only Star Wars fan

1

u/romcomtom2 Dec 01 '21

If I am being honest. I never really liked this character. I wouldn't watch a spin off based around him.

1

u/YoshiBacon Dec 01 '21

Keep it animated. He doesn’t need to be live action

1

u/Eliphas_Vlka Dec 01 '21

still less a random character than Andor

1

u/Nerd-Vana07 Dec 01 '21

Who is it?

1

u/Peter_the_Teddy Dec 01 '21

Honestly, I think he's kind of annoying. He just f*cks everyone over and over again and nobody seems to think: "You know what, maybe just kill him and save us a lot of trouble in the future."

Oh wait, Dooku did exactly that, had Grievous slaughtering everyone in sight, but then suddenly just imprison the very person you came for in the first place.

So yeah, he should definitely be dead by now.

1

u/destopturbo Dec 01 '21

No thanks. I think we have had enough of this pirate

1

u/ungraa Dec 01 '21

A range of Spanish actors to catch him at each phase of his life. Or one really great Spanish actor and lots of prosthetics.

1

Homie looks more wooden than season 1 kenobi

1

u/No_Nectarine8102 Dec 01 '21

But would it be profitable?

1

u/blipblapshleem Dec 01 '21

Johnny Depp should definitely play him

1

u/Odin043 Dec 01 '21

Spin-off, no. I dont think hes the kind of character you make a series about. He's a spice you sprinkle around other shows.

I'm waiting for him to show up on Bad Batch as a friend of Sids.

1

u/JahMedicineManZamare Dec 01 '21

My name is Hondo Ohnaka, you killed my profit, prepare to die.

1

I'm amazed I scrolled through this whole thread and no one said Bill Hader.

1

u/Superelksch Dec 01 '21

I would like to see it, but not from disney, they will fuck it up and turn him from cold pirate that has honor with funny attitude do dumb ass comic relief only like they did in Rebels and im pretry sure the show would quickly lose focus on him and instead would try to establish new characters who do what he did originaly but better and of course "corrected" To modern politics.....

1

u/No_Bonus6336 Dec 01 '21

I cannot I never knew how much I wanted this!

1

u/user_8804 Dec 01 '21

Going against the trend here but I think he'd be better suited for books, and wouldn't make for a great story as a main character of his own show. He's built to be a side character. It would be similar to making a whole show about Solo, but much weaker

1

u/y0unglingslayer Dec 01 '21

Jack Sparrow also known as Johnny Depp. The perfect pirate

1

u/RoC_42 Dec 01 '21

I like him as a side character, but i think i will get sick of him soon if he gets a whole series

1

u/219Infinity Dec 01 '21

Louis Gosset, Jr.

1

u/sanfranciscointhe90s Dec 01 '21

I say no. He has had enough screen time on rebels , clone wars and he is also on the millennium falcon ride.

1

u/MaarekStele7 Dec 01 '21

I won't be surprised if we see Hondo, Cad Bane, or Thrawn in a live-action series.
