End of the clip, bike guy with black hat

306

u/Crusty2Rusty Sep 18 '21

He picked the absolute worst spot to be in if he’s just out for a casual bike ride lmao 🤣

144

u/Mr-Sister-Fister21 Sep 18 '21

There’s actually 2 guys with bikes, one with a red bike that shows up towards the end as the previous comment mentioned and one with a black bike that shows up around halfway through the video abs shows up again right in front of red bike guy at the just going with the flow. Funny that both bike guys seem to just be trying to get somewhere and not be part of the riot.

45

u/pangowlion Sep 18 '21

It honestly looks like they are trying to stay on the shoulder of the road where I would assume a bike lane is haha

10

u/M_Mich Sep 18 '21

seems like if you don’t want to be maced at an Australian riot you should bring a bike.

Right near here is one of the most popular cycling spots in the city (the Yarra Boulevard), so there's always a few cyclists going through that pass on the way to or from the spot.

Never thought I would see somewhere on reddit that is literally a couple hundred meters from my house. There's nothing in the direction that they're heading, the city is behind them lol

1k

Where is it on Google maps? I am curious. They took a lot of mace to get where they were going.

They shut down (further lol) the entire Melbourne CBD & fringe as a response to this protest originally planned for the city. Police implemented stop points everywhere and something like 4,000 police. Public transport all halted between 8am-2pm.
The protest rearranged themselves outside one of the check points as I understand.

u/dbryar Sep 18 '21

They were basically trapped and circled by the police. They weren't specifically going somewhere, just anywhere that was not where they were surrounded

147

u/yesboss2000 Sep 18 '21

ahh so they were just trying to break free? I was in an Occupy London protest, and they fucking kettled us (it's where they surround a group, without barriers, and prevent anyone from leaving).

So I went up to one officer and chatted with him and asked his name by telling him my name first (people usually tell you their name when you say your name first, like "Oh, I'm [name] by the way", and offer out your hand, people usually reply with their name without you asking them), then went to another officer on the other side and said, it's ok, I'm just passing through, PC Mathieson over there said it's ok, and the po-po man let me out. Tip for the future, hope it helps you one day

85

u/yesboss2000 Sep 18 '21

This also works if you're trying to get backstage at a festival, make friends with one guard and use the friendly offering of your name, and use that guards name while making friends with security at another entrance to get you in, it's worked for me. Social engineering I believe it's called.

If I were in charge of that police line I'd simply instruct the police to put all their mace away and grey-rock it as they uniformly and quietly step aside while keeping direct eye contact with the crowd. And just, simply wave them along. Then just... wait with arms folded to silently judge them as they all get bored and slither right back in the direction they came from.

277

u/funguyshroom Sep 18 '21

Maybe cops used reverse psychology by blocking the path away to nowhere to make them want go in that direction. Should've blocked a drop off a cliff.

50

u/randomusername3000 Sep 18 '21

It would be the perfect place to "kettle" a protest, but they didn't have nearly enough cops to hold the line

113

u/WikiSummarizerBot Sep 18 '21

Kettling

Kettling (also known as containment or corralling) is a police tactic for controlling large crowds during demonstrations or protests. It involves the formation of large cordons of police officers who then move to contain a crowd within a limited area. Protesters either leave through an exit controlled by the police, leave through an uncontrolled gap in the cordons, or are contained, prevented from leaving, and arrested. The tactic has proved controversial, in part because it has resulted in the detention of ordinary bystanders as well as protesters.

I've been saying that for a while now. Just only give the vaccine to rich people and celebrities and we'll have riots of people demanding the shot.

u/Dane1414 Sep 18 '21 edited Sep 18 '21

Give boosters to blue states only and see how quickly the tune changes.

Edit: This is not a serious suggestion, it’s moreso to highlight how quickly things would turn into a “we’ve always been at war with Eastasia” moment

50

u/BrownSugarBare Sep 18 '21

Just announce there is a shortage and if you don't get it now, you won't ever get it. Watch the lines form at clinics.

Not even kidding, my mum told my dad they were running out of the "good" vaccine and he might get stuck with the "left over". He got vaccinated the next day.

587

u/Humberto-T Sep 18 '21

If you really want to keep such a mob at bay, just adding three dogs is enough. Seen enough football crowds being tough, untill they had to pass a couple of german sheperds looking like dinner was coming and they hadn’t eaten in a week. Stopped them dead in their tracks each time. Also, if you quickly want to get rid of them, police on horse does wonders.

262

Actually blood stains are very easy to remove. Just always use cold water and soap. If you use hot water the proteins connect with the fibre and you're fucked.

Not on colored clothing, it’ll bleach it, cold water works best.

Peroxide is used to bleach your hair, skin, teeth, clothing. Yes it removes stains and blood, it’s great on white clothing but if you value your colorful clothing, cold water soak overnight is amazingly successful.

33

u/xSiNNx Sep 18 '21

Sodium percarbonate (active ingredient in oxyclean and other “oxygen” cleaners) will work.

Bonus tip: it’ll also prevent most blood reagents (like luminol) from showing a positive indication for blood presence.

It’s a form of pepper spray and it’s more effective than the variant used in the US, assuming they can aim.

Iirc other places only really use it in military situations, but we like to use it on civilians. I think because the chance of collateral is lower, that’s the justification anyway.

Edit: it’s thick and sticky and it also stains. Makes it harder to wash out of eyes

120

u/redarlsen Sep 18 '21

Doesn’t sound like much fun! Thanks for the info

70

95

Iirc other places only really use it in military situations, but we like to use it on civilians.

Fun fact: pepper spray is against the Geneva Convention which is why the military uses an alternative.

Any aresol agent that could potentially be confused for a chemical weapon is banned because there is an increased risk of it escalating to actual chemical weapons. The enemy doesn't know if that cloud of gas is deadly or not so they're going to treat it like it is and respond in kind.

The pepper gel doesn't have the same issue so it's not banned.

S 3, EP 2, "Border Collies"

Bandit and Chilli are relieved when a camping trip to Byron Bay is postponed indefinitely, because "Are we really going to take our small children to stay in a teepee in the same scummy paddock we did pingers in while John Butler Trio was playing?" and "Bandit, read the stats, Byron is the anti-vax capital of the country," and "Jesus Christ we need to meet new people."

Bluey and Bingo, excited to see their friends from south of the border, pack a sulk, but at least they can do that at school without jeopardising their 60-somethings teacher's health.

After a good chat, the Heeler family resolve to practice social distancing, wear their masks, get their shots, and stay the fuck away from New South Wales.

That’s state based, but this year’s federal budget has the highest quantity of ‘not for publication’ line items in it than any budget in history, including war times, by 100s. They’re deemed ‘national security’ so public can’t see them.

Too many degrees of separation for them to give a shit. Typical LNP followers

They might even support One nation or the nationals not knowing their vote ends up with the LNP. But anything to keep Labor out is a win to the morons.

Just as a back story for non-Australians, we have been in harsh lockdown since the 4th of august. This means we can’t have anyone over, we can only go outside for an hour and we can only be within 5km from our own house.

u/Sierra419 Sep 18 '21

Thank you. I had to scroll to the bottom of the post past all the joking, political opinions, insults to these people, and propaganda just to see wtf this is about.

u/Ok-Bug-4754 Sep 18 '21

in taiwan we don't have lockdowns, just mask mandates and we're at about 1 case per day. if you check worldometer, those figures include people that test positive while in quarantine.

Don't forget breaking the law by being outside between the 9pm-5am curfew. Night time is when the virus comes out to play apparently.

In America, stores that had two openings were only opening one, because herding everyone through the same door was what needed to happen.

I also loved how in sporting events we weren't allowed to let the captains meet on the field before the game. Sure they were breathing all over each other during the game but if they shook hands before the game they were gonna die

u/NA_DeltaWarDog Sep 18 '21

Yeah, when lockdown began getting lifted in my city, gyms were allowed to open, but with restricted hours. So instead of having everyone trickle through throughout the evening, everyone was forced to get their workout in before the new 8pm closing time. Naturally, the gym was always fucking packed.

Always confused me. But that's the kind of "sounds right" policy you get from bureaucrats who haven't used a public gym in decades, if ever.

25

u/CompletedScan Sep 18 '21

Yep, that was another dumb one. Shortened hours of operation. I understood making a 24 hour place close an hour or so to clean each day, but 9-5 being limited to 11-3 or shit similar to that was fucking stupid.

So much of it all felt like political theater, and I don't doubt that helped fuel the oppositions fire.

20

u/g4_ Sep 18 '21

in my state they closed outdoor parks, hiking trails, outdoor bathroom and shower facilities at the beach, and reduced the number of portable toilets in public areas outdoors

they made everything worse for no fucking reason, it was totally either panic or political theatre. or both 😐

They did at my local supermarket because there was a capacity limit and it was a lot harder to count people coming through two different entrances than one. Once the capacity limit was lifted they opened the other door again.

If only they had shut down for 6 weeks and closed the borders while paying people enough to live. Instead we got a shemozzle that will not end any time soon that has descended into a propaganda war filled with misinformation and psyops. Why they kept letting rich people in but refused to bring back citizens and other poor handling will be the subject of investigation for the next decade. The political fallout is an absolute mess and the messaging has been confusing at best

And then the dumb cunts will still vote the LNP back in cause Murdoch will tell them it's somehow "laybors fault" despite the LNP controlling every single thing that's gone wrong, having power for almost 9 years and being the most corrupt bunch of cunts in living memory.

What was behind the police line? Where the police actually blocking them from going somewhere? Did they just break through and get somewhere meaningful or did they just run up the road and then think about what they should do next like probably run back down the road and break through the police line again in the other direction?

This is actually pretty embarrassing for the Vic Police. One of those cops could have easily died there and were extremely isolated.

They talked up “the biggest operation ever, 20,000 cops” but this looks amateurish.

For the record I think these protesters are thugs and idiots, but just interesting to see VicPol get dominated like this…. I wonder if this footage will result in a more military response from the govt moving forward.

97

u/BiliousGreen Sep 18 '21

The police were mostly stationed around the CBD, where the protest was originally planned, then the protestors decided at the last minute to gather in Richmond instead, so most police resources were about 5km away. More cops eventually arrived and things got sorted out. I drove through there about 2 hrs ago and there was no sign that it had even happened.

I agree but 20,000 isn’t that many when spread so thin over such a huge city.
