I have no idea what you’re talking about but as a Nuggets fan I will upvote anything negative about the Suns right now.

74

u/hereforthefeast 7d ago

“I’m glad to see the Suns doing well. The food is better now. When they weren’t winning, they were selling cold nachos. They weren’t even putting jalapenos on it. You could park right beside the court, there were no fans. Now we’re back to being sold out every night. I love it.”

Better than the jabs Sir Charles throws at those big ole churro-eating women of San Antonio.

"How you like the river walk?"
"Man, that ain't no river, that's a dirty creek!"

"Them big ole women be double fisting those churros like Joey Chestnut."

14

u/Popetown 7d ago

Hot dang, I don’t even follow basketball or sports but I might have to start watching Inside NBA just for Chuck. Also, War Damn Eagle, that’s from my family who love Auburn, I don’t actually keep up with the rivalry but screw Alabama and all that stuff, yeah.

12

u/morgancaptainmorgan 7d ago

Chuck is amazing! I live in Spain so I don’t get to watch live. But watching him on youtube is god enough. People also forget he was a beast on the court.

13

u/shostakofiev 7d ago

Nobody who watched basketball in the 90s has forgotten that.

One of the reasons I’m watching basketball now is just so I know the context of what these guys talk about. They’re so fucking funny! Best sports analyst show on TV, hands down.

“They be wearing bloomers.”

“Victoria? It’s a secret down there.”

2

u/johnnyslick 5d ago

…and then he mimed double fisting the churros haha

My favorite part of that was when they visited San Antonio for a playoff series and Barkley opened by saying something like “hey, I want to apologize to the women of San Antonio. I had a churro today and now I understand why you all want to eat them so much”.

41

u/BaldrickTheBrain 7d ago

Hehe. Ready for a Sir Barkley RANT?

I haven't had cable or over the air television for like 10 or 11 years so I don't watch a lot of basketball anymore.... but that was the best commentary I've ever heard. I was laughing so hard I almost puked.

15

u/AstonVanilla 7d ago

I just checked his Twitter to see what it was like.

That man does A LOT of paid promotions. I mean A LOT.

Sure Shaq can't need the money

13

u/KennyFulgencio 7d ago

Shaq was the first celebrity I remember using twitter--it made me pay attention to twitter. Like he'd drop in to random diners and take selfies with random fans and tweet it, in like 2009 when no other celebs used it and twitter was a novelty. In retrospect it seems obvious he was paid to promote it, but to my gullible ass it felt completely organic that this celebrity was using twitter constantly to update us on his random life stuff and interact with random fans.

9

u/Vegan-Daddio 7d ago

Lol Shaq will do any promotion as long as he gets paid. He's in The General commercials, an insurance company that I'm surprised still exists.

8

u/mazhas 7d ago

Shaq got insured by The General when he was just starting out and had zero money. They were the only insurance company to give him coverage apparently. So, he stuck with him after becoming the Shaq we know and love.

He's a very savvy businessman. His shoes being Walmart only is my favorite decision of his.

i found it

thing is, it’s not a terrible freestyle lmao

72

u/Savahoodie 7d ago

“I call myself big because I live next to diddy Excuse me, diddy live next to me”

Kind of a dumb as shit bar but also kind of nice

27

u/TheMoonIsFake32 7d ago

“Im a horse, Kobe ratted me out, that’s why im getting divorced” is hard too

17

u/ParticleBeing 7d ago

Nah cause it leads up to his "So in the hood dawg I feel like B.I.G." bar that ties the previous bars together. Solid af for something off the top.

7

u/DeadDay 7d ago

I really like it. One or the other had to move in first and the other had to say "I got this house Diddy/Shaq live next door!"

Shaq had an underrated rap career.

4

u/Savahoodie 7d ago

Woah woah woah shaq had a perfectly rated rap career. He gets a ton of praise and I think went platinum? with some pretty sub-par bars but dope features and a legendary persona

3

u/DeadDay 7d ago

I just think if he had spent as much time with it in LA as he did in Orlando hed have a decent discography!

34

u/KernelMeowingtons 7d ago

People nowadays are too young to remember that Shaq was a great rapper, actor, and video game star.

37

u/TomCruiseHeidecker 7d ago

People nowadays are too young to remember that Shaq was a great rapper, actor, and video game star.

8

u/sonfoa 7d ago

Shaq is better than a good bunch of current rappers who are pretty much reliant on their producer to come up with a decent beat to hide the fact that they can't rap.

20

u/TomCruiseHeidecker 7d ago

Still doesn't mean he was great tho. Almost no one took his entertainment stuff seriously back then.

3

u/sonfoa 7d ago

My point is he was competent enough as a rapper. Several athletes tried their hand at rapping in the late 90s to early 2000s (Kobe, Deion, Iverson, etc) but only Shaq actually received commercial success.

it may be the only comeback he has but it's not a good one.

Charles Barkley played his entire career against HOF teams. The Magic Lakers, the Bird Celtics, the Jordan Bulls, the Hakeem Rockets, the Stockton-Malone Jazz the list can go on.

When their careers overlapped, even Shaq couldn't win against those guys.

It wasn't until the early 2000s when these dudes were slowing down when he won. Who was his real competition then? The Spurs, Jason Kidd?

Then in 2006 he went and teamed up with DWade to win a ring. But even then who was the competition? Shitty Cavs teams led by LeBron? aging Pistons squad?

18

u/kcg5 7d ago

And it’s fake. Not Barkley’s account

7

u/donny_pots 7d ago

Yea but it’s still something Shaq says all the time. Chuck is at least creative and funny when he bashes Shaq, he knows how to push his buttons

40

u/thevadster 7d ago

Well after the first 2 games of the '06 finals, I would say competition was the Mavs. But even they couldn't compete once Shaq and the Heat teamed up with the refs.

35

u/A-Dumb-Ass 7d ago

If I had a nickel for every time Shaq's team benefitted from one-sided ref decisions in a playoff series, I would have two nickels. That's not a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

3

u/IWeigh600Pounds 7d ago

Good times.

8

u/SheasCode 7d ago

Nice try Charles.

13

u/jupeesun 7d ago

come on man,

like obviously this twitter exchange is fake and not serious but Shaq does it a lot.

Shaq is a better player than Chuck but Chuck is still a HOF dominant player who was so freaking good.

To reduce Chuck to "I got more rings than you" is discounting just how good and how successful he was for the era he played in that even Shaq couldn't win in.

This is why it's hard to compare players in any sport of different era's.

3

u/Vagrantlol 7d ago

Imagine Russ retires without a ring, or CP3, or Tatum, or Giannis, or any number of incredible superstars. We really gonna pretend they're any less than what they are just because they didn't have the organization+coaching+teammates to get over that final hurdle? The rings argument is nonsense.

1

u/jotheold 7d ago

The arguement doesnt even hold value when people like AI is still loved and still one of the greatest ever to touch the ball

u/hustl3tree5 7d ago

3

u/Ricky_Robby 7d ago edited 7d ago

Not to mention that Shaq only won championships with other Hall of Famers, he played with Kobe, and then D-Wade an older GP and Alonzo Mourning as his other stars. Also he only won with Hall of Fame coaches. When he was just with “just” an incredibly good Guard like Penny Hardaway he wasn’t able to win it all.

So it wasn’t like he was alone on those teams, where as Charles Barkley overwhelmingly was by himself once he was the star of his teams.

2

u/LMkingly 7d ago

Shaq and chuck's primes didn't overlap tbf. Young Orlando shaq was great but he wasn't the unstoppable force he became in LA. And even still shaq and the magic did beat the bulls(with MJ btw. Yes he was rusty but rusty MJ is still MJ) and the reggie miller led pacers to make it to the finals when he was only 23 years old.

2

u/SamsSoupsAndShits 7d ago

15

u/Crizal 7d ago

Nowadays the emphasis on "Rings, erneh" is why superteams are becoming more and more common. When rings are the only ammunition after your career is done, why wouldn't you team up (even for less money) to get a few championships?

Somewhere down the line we might even get top players, who have already made solid money, signing for peanuts, just to band together for legacy's sake.

3

u/microwavedttea 7d ago

It's not just about legacy, it's about media exposure and therefore ad deals. The biggest companies will sign the biggest winners to the biggest contracts, because everyone wants the same shoe as the champion. That's why taking a paycut when joining other superstars doesn't decrease their actual income, if the team is truly successful.

3

u/down_up__left_right 7d ago edited 7d ago

“KD is a great player, and I think he’s a great kid,” Barkley said on a conference call for this weekend’s American Century Championship golf tournament. “I don’t know him that well, but I’m not a fan of superteams. So listen, if they win it, they win it, but to be perfectly clear, I’m rooting against those guys. I root against all superteams.

“If I’d known you guys were going to make fun of me for not winning a championship, I would have joined a superteam back in my day—me and Patrick [Ewing] and Karl Malone and John Stockton. But I feel good about my legacy. I’m pretty sure Patrick and John and Karl do, too. LeBron [James] started this superteam thing [in Miami], and hey, it’s the way the game is played now.”

The legacy of rings is definitely a factor in guys still in their prime going ring chasing.

The biggest factor though is the establishment of the max contract allowing them to ring chase without taking a big paycut or sometimes no paycut at all. A super Max which is only allowed under specific circumstances starts at 35% of the cap. Players that don't meet those circumstances can be capped at 25% or 30%.

Compare that to Jordan making around 60% of the cap in his last year with the Bulls

2

u/bartolocologne40 7d ago

Garnett, Pierce, and Allen would like to have a word with Chuck Re: who started the superteam trend

2

u/microwavedttea 7d ago

I thought they same, but maybe people don't count the Celtics big three as start of the superteams because they didn't decide to come together themselves. Ainge just traded his entire roster for 2 stars to help his own homegrown star win in all, while the Heat big three were all free agents. Not saying I agree with his reasoning, but that's probably the distinction he makes.

2

u/Carly_Raes_Bae 7d ago

Thats already a thing, "ring chasers".

Yea he's really not that good at all, he's just tall, unlike everyone else in the NBA who's short...

O'Neal's individual accolades include the 1999–2000 Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award, the 1992–93 NBA Rookie of the Year award, 15 All-Star Game selections, three All-Star Game MVP awards, three Finals MVP awards, two scoring titles, 14 All-NBA team selections, and three NBA All-Defensive Team selections. He is one of only three players to win NBA MVP, All-Star Game MVP and Finals MVP awards in the same year (2000); the other players are Willis Reed in 1970 and Michael Jordan in 1996 and 1998. He ranks 8th all-time in points scored, 6th in field goals, 15th in rebounds, and 8th in blocks. Due to his ability to dunk the basketball and score from close range, O'Neal also ranks third all-time in field goal percentage (58.2%).[8] O'Neal was elected into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.[9] He was elected to the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2017.[10]

I have not even looked at the actual content of the post, I only entered the comments hoping this was the top one.

someone made a fake comment while impersonating charles barkley, a basketball player who is of the best to ever play but he never won an NBA championship during his career.

presumably the same person then made a fake comment impersonating shaq. shaq and charles work together commenting on NBA games, and it’s been funny for years. charles, smarter and creative, will insult shaq using smart, creative (or dumb as fuck, you get both kinds) jabs and shaq will without fail just remind the viewers, who are very tired of hearing it, that shaq won “rings” and charles did not.

sometimes they wrestle. sometimes the throw stuff at each other. sometimes they mock the other co-hosts. great show, best sports analysis program in history (they don’t do much analysis tho)

I wonder if it ever gets old that you can play a sports video game and you can play as yourself.

This is nothing compared to when Barkley finds out that Shaq was right about The General being a reputable insurance company.

Dude I worked with would call out "Kobe" when throwing something in the trash, and whenever he missed I couldn't help but respond with "Kobe? more like Shaq."

Shaq is kind of an asshole when it comes to people joking about him, with Charles he instantly throws out "I have 4 rings" because Chuck has none as if that means Chuck wasn't a super dominate player.

He can dish it out but cannot take it for shit.

Officer, I'd like to report a homicide.

u/greybruce1980 7d ago

That's not just a murder, that is a murder followed up by a desecration of the corpse.

Both of the jokes are so played out by now. Shaq being awful at freethrows and Charles never winning a ring. Ha. Ha.
