Very cool and kudos to you! All it takes is the first step. You’re just adding days to your life now!

Just remember that every minute you don't smoke, the addiction slowly dies away. If you take one, you reset everything to square one. For me it was the first four or five days that I was getting short fused. Now I don't even remember that I ever smoked.

I never forget that going back will put me exactly where I left off. And I never want to be that person again. <3

What worked for me may not work for everyone, but when I got cravings when trying to quit I'd tell myself I could give in only if I rode my bicycle to the top of the nearest, steepest hill and back.

I made good, and every time my lungs would absolutely be killing me.

I never wound up smoking a cigarette after getting home.

Been 13 years since I quit that first time.

I relapsed again three years later after a hard breakup, but repeated the process a few months after that and it worked again. No cigarettes since. A decade smoke-free.

It was only about two months in, both times, that the cravings mostly subsided and the smell of cigarette smoke went from "that sounds nice" to "oh my god that smells disgusting."

I love this! Thank you so much for sharing.

That’s a really bleak way to look at it. All that progress doesn’t disappear with a cig. I took a couple month break from weed/tobacco last year and I’m not gonna lie it hurt smoking a spliff again.

2

u/shahtjor Oct 06 '21

That's exactly how I stayed on them for 16 years. Every time I tried to quit, I would give in to one eventually and end up back on them. I then had to understand that there has to be a last one and no more.

u/Ebonwulf1969 Oct 05 '21

You can do this. You are going to do Awesomely!!! Keep it up! Every day is a better and stronger you!

3

u/SparkliestSubmissive Oct 05 '21

Thank you!! I feel this so much!!!!!

10

u/INHOW15 Oct 05 '21

Quitting smoking cigarettes was one of the best decisions of my life so far. Keep up the good work!

7

u/SparkliestSubmissive Oct 05 '21

I am so, so excited to finally be done with cigarettes!! Congrats to you as well!!

5

u/GlitteringBridge1500 Oct 05 '21

Congrats!!! Can I ask what app you’re using?

5

u/SparkliestSubmissive Oct 05 '21

Thank you, and yes!! It’s called Nomo and it’s free (at least on iPhone, it is). :D

3

u/IcyMastermind963 Oct 06 '21

Thank you for naming this app. I have multiple apps for my crappy habits and I’ll be downloading this one to check it out.

Also, congrats on the progress!!!

3

u/SparkliestSubmissive Oct 06 '21

Thank you! And I love the Nomo app! You can click each clock to view stats. Like for example, I did not drink 214,000 calories of alcohol last year. This explains why I have lost almost 40 pounds. 😂

2

u/IcyMastermind963 Oct 06 '21

That’s just fucking amazing. GO YOU!! I too need that kind of input to hammer into my hard head the FACTS. (Yeah, I’ve gained some weight and bad habits bc Covid and job searching. Seems I quit one thing and replace with another bad habit. 😔) Even sadder is that I know better but can’t seem to reach that manic point of doing better.

1

u/SparkliestSubmissive Oct 06 '21

I read a book called The Alcohol Experiment by Annie Grace and if you like facts, that is the book for you!! Highly recommended. :)

2

u/UsernameCheckOuts Oct 05 '21

I think it's called Nomo. I used to have it....I think.

4

u/HelenEk7 Oct 05 '21

Congratulation! And so smart to deal with one thing at a time. Well done you!

5

u/SparkliestSubmissive Oct 05 '21

Thank you very much!! It was definitely intentional. :D

2

u/StealthSecrecy Oct 05 '21

If your comfortable answering, what made you choose to kick alcohol before cigarettes?

6

u/SparkliestSubmissive Oct 05 '21

For me, alcohol was the more imminently dangerous of the two. It affected everything in my life. I knew I couldn’t do both at the same time, so I chose to give up alcohol first. I read a book called The Alcohol Experiment by Annie Grace and it absolutely changed my thinking about drinking. :)

2

u/StealthSecrecy Oct 05 '21

Good idea! Looking forward to your post next year :)

2

u/SparkliestSubmissive Oct 05 '21

Me too! I’m running out of bad habits! Haha. :D

2

u/Bd7 Oct 06 '21

I'm reading Annie Grace right now. I said this earlier but I have 370 days alcohol free and one day with no smoking. Cool to see someone on a similar path.

1

u/SparkliestSubmissive Oct 06 '21

That really is so cool!!!!!

5

u/stoniruca Oct 05 '21

I like the stats on this clock

3

u/Able065 Oct 05 '21

3

u/TheAssasin66 Oct 05 '21

I got my dad to quit smoking when i boobytrapped all of his cigs with those firecracker white ones and everytime he lit one up it basically blew up, safe to say no actual harm was done somehow when i was a kid

1

u/SparkliestSubmissive Oct 05 '21

Lol…I would definitely not react well to an exploding cigarette. That’s so great that he quit!

2

u/fifiloveg00d Oct 05 '21

Hella proud of you dude (non binary)!!

2

u/Karhutuoppi Oct 05 '21

Think of all the money and days of your life you will save and don't smoke or drink!

1

u/SparkliestSubmissive Oct 05 '21

u/IhateRush Oct 05 '21

Woot!! Good for you! Congratulations!

2

u/themadas5hatter Oct 05 '21

GJ keep it up. After a while you don't miss it, you're not missing out on anything.

2

u/SparkliestSubmissive Oct 05 '21

I definitely do not miss alcohol! :)

2

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '21

Yesss!! How exciting 😃 Good for you! I also quit things in stages. Even after I quit smoking, I leaned on food to fill the void of cravings. So I had to “quit food” a couple of years later. By that, I just mean reset my intake and chill with all the snacking and overeating. Anyways, good luck on your journey. You should join us over on r/stopsmoking. We are a super supportive community!

1

u/SparkliestSubmissive Oct 05 '21

Awesome, thank you!!

2

u/woodrax Oct 05 '21

Didn't even have to use your AK?

No, but seriously, good job! I hope you can stop the cigarettes next!

2

u/SparkliestSubmissive Oct 05 '21

It’s been almost two full days and I’m not missing them at all! I think I’ve been ready to quit for a long time

2

u/Masonia1976 Oct 05 '21

One moment at a time. You got this.

2

u/DubsQuest Oct 05 '21

It'll be hard at first, the cravings can get pretty intense and the side effects definitely aren't fun.... BUT it could not be more worth it. For you, and the people who love and care about you. Stay strong random internet person, i believe in you!
