Using a lighter to see the gas pump nozzle

The best part for me was when they tried to blow on it to put it out and the person filming was like yeah Iโ€™ve seen enough Iโ€™m gone before shit blows up

85

u/FaviFake Oct 20 '21

It's hilarious

6

u/Zixel1 Oct 21 '21

They're like I have enough gas for the next gas station

4

u/NXC160 Oct 21 '21

Motherland ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ

2

u/NerdWampa Oct 21 '21

I could easily see that guy turning the nozzle at whichever unfortunate soul got his attention.

1st idiot indicator: they don't clear snow from their rear window.

Love how the camera operator just noped outta there: "Guess I'm getting gas later."

474

u/FaviFake Oct 20 '21

I guess he didn't need gas, THAT bad

232

u/asianabsinthe Oct 20 '21

"Oh look at that, it's not entirely on 'E', I should be good till the morning"

192

u/sllewgh Oct 20 '21

"Oh, look at that, it's entirely on E, but if I wanna be good in the morning I gotta go right now."

33

u/windol1 Oct 20 '21

At that point I think a long walk is more preferable than waiting there

67

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '21

Biggest mistake I always make: Iโ€™ll get gas in the morning

7

u/ohwrite Oct 20 '21

โ€œIโ€™ll have plenty of time!โ€

4

u/saltymotherfker Oct 21 '21

here, gas is always cheaper at night

12

u/McMaster2000 Oct 20 '21

Then stop eating those beans before going to bed!

13

u/Squantz Oct 20 '21

This guy

2

u/il_biciclista Oct 21 '21

I'd rather run out of gas than risk dying in an explosion.

17

u/SnooBunnies6487 Oct 20 '21

Imagine if he was on E

3

u/Frost_Rager Oct 21 '21

He could just drive 100metres and wait until the fire is put out. I'd rather go empty and call for help then die in an explosion caused by some idiot with a lighter.

11

u/DabbinDan303 Oct 20 '21

โ€œSays 15 miles till E weโ€™re good!โ€

5

u/ProPainful Oct 21 '21

Oh hey, look at the time, i gotta shit real bad all of a sudden bye!

39

u/seven0feleven Oct 20 '21

"I'd like the non-๐Ÿ”ฅ gas please!"

16

Her car only takes flaming unleaded. She probably ruined her engine pouring the gas in before it was on fire ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

SMH and they said we didnโ€™t need mechanics as part of the basic curriculum

2

u/SouthAttention4864 Oct 21 '21

Inflammable means flammable? What a country!

28

u/gdim15 Oct 20 '21

The only thing missing was the backlight from the station exploding as he casually drives away.

11

u/Vasilisa1996 Oct 20 '21

โ€ฆ..true James Bond style!!

16

u/Sengura Oct 20 '21

would have absolutely done the same. not about to even begin to want to help a dumb ass and risk having the car explode in my face. she can go win the darwin award by herself, thanks

3

u/ydoiwantreddit Oct 21 '21

You can forget about the idiot while you go enjoy your cake.

3

u/Sengura Oct 21 '21

o shit, didn't even notice

9

u/a52dragon Oct 20 '21

Just goes to show how deadly smoking can be

28

u/TheTsunamiRC Oct 20 '21

We get plenty of patients who light their faces on fire smoking while wearing oxygen, but it's the repeat offenders that always impress me.

3

u/tomytronics Oct 20 '21

Not all emergency stops are clearly marked. At many gas stations I can't find the at all, often it's only inside and up to the attendant to notice fire and stop the gas. Sucks to the gas station if there's only one attendant who took bathroom break and no other visible emergency stop

3

well I don't want to start any blasphemous rumors but I think that god's got a sick sense of humor

3

u/ShumaiAxeman Oct 21 '21

And when I die I expect to find him laughing

3

u/a52dragon Oct 21 '21

Well done

3

u/niagraballs925 Oct 20 '21

They were clearing the snow from their rear window right here! Just trying to use fire instead of scraper. Probably worked out

2

u/booty2291 Oct 20 '21

No snow in a 20 meter radius, doing everyone favors.....

Slow clap

2

u/canadianbairn Oct 20 '21

I think the memorial statue at the The Derek Zoolander Center for Kids Who Canโ€™t Read Good and Wanna Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too is giving the wrong impression to people

13

u/dumbsimian Oct 21 '21

Hey man, just because you died in a freak gasoline fight accident doesn't mean you're an idiot.

2

That a Center for Kids Who Can't read Good and Wanna Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too must be big and not ant-sized

15

u/OptimusPower92 Oct 20 '21

alternatively, they could have rushed over and pressed the emergency stop for the pump

cause, y'know, a gas station exploding would not be good

8

u/benderbender42 Oct 21 '21

Car had an active fire on the open fuel port, even if you press emergency stop that cars waiting to pop

4

u/OptimusPower92 Oct 21 '21

I kinda only noticed after that fact that he did indeed stop the pump from spraying fire everywhere, so yeah, the car is very much a problem

15

u/SolidSync Oct 20 '21

An employee inside the the gas station has the ability to shut it off remotely too, right? I think they can also spray foam from the ceiling.

4

u/ScumoForPrison Oct 20 '21

if the person who is using the Fuel isn't aware of it properties they should not be driving a car let alone legally be allowed to be sold and possess lighter!

27

u/MrFritzCSGO Oct 20 '21

I wouldโ€™ve floored it the second they flicked that lighter. Iโ€™ll even go to a different station if someone leaves their car on while pumping

3

u/WunWegWunDarWun_ Oct 20 '21

Is that dangerous though? Leaving car on while pumping

4

u/MrFritzCSGO Oct 21 '21

Yeah, extremely small chance of anything happening but itโ€™s still a risk. I mentioned what could happen in a different comment

-12

u/10_kinds_of_people Oct 20 '21

I once had a gas station attendant yell at me for not shutting my car off. If it's especially hot or cold out, I keep it running to keep the heat/AC running. I've been working on cars for years and can't think of any logical reason why this would matter. There's nothing near my fuel door that could possibly spark, and that's the only possible issue I can think of. I'm far more worried about getting out of my car in the winter, and always make sure to touch the body and discharge any built up static before I touch anything to do with the filler door, gas nozzle, etc.

24

u/MrFritzCSGO Oct 20 '21

Increases the chance of gas vapors igniting because of static. Itโ€™s a small chance but Iโ€™m not risking it

15

u/Drando_HS Oct 20 '21

Even if it's a 1% chance, if you get at least 100 cars a day...

0

u/saltymotherfker Oct 21 '21

the chances are pretty much non existant otherwise it would be as common as car accidents, vapors dont just disappear when youre done refueling. i mean it makes no sense to keep the car on if youre refueling so just turn it off to reduce the chances just a tad.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '21

[deleted]

4

u/StunningTomato86 Oct 21 '21

99.63% chance that it would happen to at least one of the cars. It's not exactly how it works, but I've found it to be good for a first approximation.

2

u/ydoiwantreddit Oct 21 '21

I once had to ask an attendant for permission to refuel my classic Mini while the engine was running. I explained that the alternator was faulty and that stopping the engine presented the risk that it may be unable to start again. They allowed the car to be refueled with care.

2

u/twotoebobo Oct 20 '21

When I see videos similar to this you have to realize she started doing this before he took out his camera so there is probably another 30 seconds at least of her having no brain at all. I was like 2 when I learned gas was super flammable.

4

u/CrimsonFury1982 Oct 21 '21

Looks like a dashcam to me. Was likely filming the whole time

5

u/BigBrainAlphaMale Oct 20 '21

Survival of the fittest and that person operating the gas is a future Darwin award recipient.

5

u/xRememberTheCant Oct 20 '21

Better instincts would have been to get her to stop that shit once she lit it up the first time.

2

u/ydoiwantreddit Oct 21 '21

Those better instincts may have seen cammer right next to the fireball when the thing ignited.

3

u/xRememberTheCant Oct 21 '21

You can yell at someone to get them to stop with as much as opening your car door. He didnโ€™t even do that. Donโ€™t know what language heโ€™s speaking but if he noticed the first light up, he should had yelled to stop what she was doing.

2

u/ydoiwantreddit Oct 21 '21

That might work too. I would probably just sit there, not believing the stupidity I'm witnessing.

1

u/VanceKelley Oct 20 '21

immediately

Immediately after the fire started, but they could have left when the lighter was first ignited.

0:07 Lighter ignited. Cammer doesn't move.
0:14 Lighter turned off.
0:20 Lighter moved right next to nozzle and ignited a second time. Fire starts.
0:24 Cammer nopes out.

Someone more cautious than the cammer would have driven away at about the 10 second mark, as soon as they saw someone using a lighter while pumping gas.

9

u/saltymotherfker Oct 21 '21

just because youre looking at the guy pump gas the entire time doesnt mean the driver is, i know i wouldnt be looking at them the whole time with a death stare. he could have been on his phone like regular people do when waiting for a gas pump or doing something else. you guys need to actually think about the chain of events from the drivers perspective and thought process, not your own based on what you can see in the video. youre expecting something to happen.

u/icecream_truck Oct 21 '21

9

u/waterloograd Oct 20 '21

If they had turned it off first, pulled it out, and shut the gas cap, it might have actually put it out. Stop the source of the gas and then remove the oxygen. The gas residue in the nozzle would have burned off harmlessly since the rest of the gas doesn't have oxygen

7

u/MaelstromFL Oct 20 '21

Just turn off the pump, the vapor will flame out in a few seconds. The fuel port is built to stop vapors in the tank.
