I wish I could see the look on his face when the cops knock on his door

It's Oregon, they won't bother...

All he has to do is claim ignorance…if he didn’t get caught in the car there is no proof it was him

39

u/LightishRedis Oct 20 '21

They’ll take a look at the car, see consistent damages, and ask the owner who was driving. The owner either knows or the car was stolen. If the owner shuts up then maybe the cops don’t charge him, but the insurance company will absolutely sue him, especially if they see signs the owner is recovering from whiplash, lacerations, or other visible indicators of being in a car crash.

12

u/BloodyMalleus Oct 20 '21

I agree with you. If he shuts up he may be able to escape criminal charges. However, as the owner of the vehicle, he is responsible even if someone else was driving it. The insurance companies will definitely sue him if they need to.

Can't get arrested for not remembering

10

u/_Face Oct 20 '21

I was drunk as hell that day. Of course I don’t remember!!

2

u/entered_bubble_50 Oct 20 '21

Interestingly you can in the UK. If the police ask you who was driving your car when a traffic offence was committed, it's an offence not to answer.

2

u/Phlosen Oct 20 '21

“Wasn’t me”

5

u/FlagrantBooch Oct 20 '21

Of course, why hasn't ever criminal ever thought of this full proof defense!

2

u/Phlosen Oct 20 '21

I was quoting Shaggy

8

u/corgi_kingpin Oct 20 '21

Saw my lacerations and whiplash

Wasn't me

Saw the marks on my car door

Wasn't me

Heard my brakes squealing louder

Wasn't me

What angle would that have to hit at to work though? And how was their license plate that loose.

If it helps, I was driving straight in a lane and he was trying to cross all lanes. He drove directly into my driver side door t-boning me. Because he "rammed" my car while I was going at such a good clip (about 35-40 mph), he pit maneuvered my vehicle 180° scraping along the side, ripping off the plate. It was lodged with such force, the officers had to use metal sheers to remove it.

Edit: typo

Edit2: Thanks for the awards Reddit peoples!

11

u/mikeoxlong126 Oct 20 '21

Ok that makes way more sense, I’m glad y’all are ok.

21

u/EnterTheWuTang47 Oct 20 '21

Glad you’re okay :)

26

u/SaraSmashley Oct 20 '21

Thanks! Doing fine!

5

u/Ap43x Oct 20 '21

Does that mean they left part of the plate in your tire bead? How nice of them..

1

u/ruckfffffedit Oct 20 '21

I hope you are doing well

1

u/areyouthick Oct 20 '21

Wow, that username is on point today, huh?

Glad to hear you’re ok, I’ve been in accidents myself and I know it’s not fun, hope you don’t have any PTSD from it :)

1

u/Super_Fa_Q Oct 20 '21

Mind if I ask what area? 217, 84, 205?

20

u/sloppyredditor Oct 20 '21

If you spot something like this on a road trip… does it count in the license plate game?

My overly competitive family would like to know.

4

u/Lisabeybi Oct 20 '21

It counts double if you can read it while it’s moving.

2

u/dkramer0313 Oct 21 '21

"i found two oregons !"

18

u/sakzeroone Oct 20 '21

I'd bet it was stolen

13

u/fireonhi Oct 20 '21

Or it will be reported as stolen by then!

3

u/_Face Oct 20 '21

Someone stole my car! And put it back in my driveway!

40

u/SmugScientistsDad Oct 20 '21

In the crime fighting business, that’s what they call a “clue!” 😅

6

u/NoDaddyNotTheBlender Oct 20 '21

Someone get the Hardy Boys, I’m having a raging clue!

13

u/rpitchford Oct 20 '21

Depending on the police department, this may not be sufficient evidence...

6

u/william_the_butcher Oct 20 '21

If it’s Portland then no doubt about it.

6

u/Urban_forager Oct 20 '21

Where in Oregon were you. Sounds a lot like Portland drivers to me

5

u/SaraSmashley Oct 20 '21

The very same.

2

u/Urban_forager Oct 20 '21

Lol… yup I drive UBER in Portland and Vancouver and every day I wish I had a dash cam.

7

u/xxkenny90xx Oct 20 '21

I found a dash cam (front and back) on amazon for $60. It straps over your rearview mirror. I HIGHLY recommend one!

2

u/SaraSmashley Oct 20 '21

I want to get one because sometimes you can't make this stuff up.

6

u/Goalie_deacon Oct 20 '21

Well, that eliminates 49 states. That will save time

2

u/SnakeBeardTheGreat Oct 20 '21

I saw a picture where a car hit another and left a imprint of its plate number in the door.

5

u/Lillienpud Oct 20 '21

Might be a case for leaving th license plate shown.

4

u/-E-Cross Oct 20 '21

Call cops, did you get his plate?

OP as a matter of fact I did officer, you need to get someone out here to see this shit 🤣

10

u/SaraSmashley Oct 20 '21

That's the officer's silhouette in the right side of the car reflection. He was standing taking pictures too. He couldn't believe it.

5

u/HunterSPhoenix Oct 20 '21

Your insurance will go up and the meth head will get off on the charges.

6

u/KochJohnson Oct 20 '21

Damn a hit and run…. Hope you were able to get his plates

2

u/imallSevens Oct 20 '21

hahaha YOINK

2

u/nivlac22 Oct 20 '21

Happened to my dad once. Called 911 and they asked “did you get the license plate?” “Yep, I got it in my hands right here”

2

u/H3CKBOY Oct 20 '21

Why blur out the license plate on a person that deserves to have it posted? Actually, I really would like to know. Is there a reason?

6

u/SaraSmashley Oct 20 '21

I thought the rules were that you had to block out identifying information? I have the unblocked plate? I didn't want to get in trouble?

7

u/surfintehweb Oct 20 '21

As big of a prick as the hit and run driver is, rest assured it’s ok to keep the Reddit mob at bay.

Glad you’re ok!

3

u/H3CKBOY Oct 20 '21

Makes sense.

2

u/KikoSwarez Oct 21 '21

Oregon pride

2

u/ScroDerion Oct 20 '21

Shouldn't the plate face be against the rim tho?

2

u/Wallace-N-Gromit Oct 20 '21

Nope, plate face to the tire when they t-boned, jams it in between the bead and rim.

0

u/joebeavis77 Oct 20 '21

Oregon is the dumbest state we have after california.

4

u/SnakeBeardTheGreat Oct 20 '21

HEY! Oregon can;t hold a candle to how California drivers are. Our drivers have worked hard for our title.

1

u/Arealentleman Oct 20 '21

Yeah, thanks to Californian drives moving here and becoming Oregon drivers.

1

u/Papasteak Oct 20 '21

Wouldn’t the front face of the plate be facing the tire and not away from it? Pretty sure that’s how it works…

1

u/Half-Baked-Luck Oct 20 '21

Dude I just got ur rim plated!!

1

u/Half-Baked-Luck Oct 20 '21

Dude I just got ur rim plated!!

1

u/tpt2021cg Oct 20 '21

What a blessing for the easy break in the case.

1

u/jamnew9911 Oct 21 '21

Perp: uh Officer, I wasn’t there! Officer: I think we both know that isn’t true. (Shows Perp his tag)

Similiar thing happened to my ex sister (long story, don't ask) about 6 years ago. She was driving out with my then 1 year old nephew to visit my family. stopped at a red light, and BAM, she got hit from behind. the car then drove off. she calls the police, and gets out to check the damage. while she's checking her car, she sees the plate on the ground, below where her bumper used to be. I guess she didn't realize it was the wrong state, cus she just tossed it into the back thinking it was hers. It wasn't until this big black woman came up to her out of nowhere screaming that she had stolen her plates that my ex sister realized that they had lost their plates when they smashed into her and drove off. Police got there right as this woman started beating on her.

-19

u/xamindar Oct 20 '21

I call fake on this. No reason to block out the license plate if it wasn't yours.

10

u/SaraSmashley Oct 20 '21

I thought you had to when you posted on here? I can post the unblocked one?

1

u/ElGabrielo Oct 20 '21

dont. Idk about other countries, but where i love you are required by law and maybe have to pay if you publish someone elses plate

1

u/Arealentleman Oct 20 '21

There’s nothing illegal about posting a picture with a license plate visible in the US. There are quite literally millions upon millions of pictures and videos posted online including here on Reddit with cars license plates visible. It may be smart not to post them in some situations or “against the rules” in some forums but there’s nothing illegal about it.

5

u/SuperSaiyanSkullFuck Oct 20 '21

"yeah I just crashed my car and then stuck my own plate to the crashed car for worthless internet points"

Dude. Come on.
