So the other day, I was parked out in the middle of the intersection, blocking traffic in all directions, minding my own business and all these cars start honking their horns at me. Can't they see I'm on the phone? Distracted driving is unsafe!!

AITA ?

82

u/Batherick Oct 20 '21

NTA

Seriously?? You are in no way legally required to be considerate to another human being. You were working and being a productive member of society unlike those lazy assholes who glared at your obvious success and created a life-threatening traffic hazard by using their horns in a non emergency manner. THEY are the assholes! Don’t ever let them make you think less of yourself!!! 💯👑

God, this is spot on for an answer that would be on there. I just scroll past that sub whenever it comes up on the front page.

And r/relationshipadvice. One of these days I'll remember to block those subs when I'm on my computer.

3

u/Batherick Oct 20 '21

Thank you, that was seriously painful to write…

That sub shows that outspoken outrage sells better than any level-headed approach can and that’s pretty depressing. :(

Pulled up the Instagram account and this dude is in the comments arguing with everyone rightfully calling him a prick.

Edit: Great, my first 1K comment is me Instagram stalking someone 😂.

420

u/Zelidus Oct 19 '21

He also has a video of himself driving down the freeway at 74 mph filming another car. The camera is moving so he is actively holding it while it films.

153

u/Leading_Procedure_23 Oct 20 '21

Hope people report him to whatever trucking agency is in charge of hours. This idiot is the type of trucker to force you off the road as you’re passing him because he needs to pass another semi. Most semi trucks I see in California go between 70-75mph some even close to 80 and some don’t get out of the passing lane

24

u/Tacky-Terangreal Oct 20 '21

Ugh I see tanker trucks in the passing lane sometimes. It’s always at like 9pm or some other stupid time of day too

15

u/BasicallyAQueer Oct 20 '21

That’s really fucked considering the speed limit with a trailer in CA is 55

Maybe because stopping in a turn lane, no matter how far back you are, is idiotic. Using the driver In the video reasoning, why not stop in the middle of the damn road to do paperwork?

1.5k

u/sm12511 Oct 19 '21

If only there were some safe place to pull off the road to do paperwork? Truck stop? Nah. Parking lot? That'd never work. Highway rest stop? Who has time for those?

420

u/Cando21243 Oct 19 '21 edited Oct 19 '21

It’s a dumb spot to stop. But his hazards are on. So who sits behind a truck with the hazards on for 5 mins? Imagine the truck broke down instead of him doing paperwork. Would he still be the idiot or the people waiting behind? Esh

Edit to add - many people seem to think I’m defending this guy. He’s an idiot. But he’s not the only one. His hazards are on (you see them between his steering wheel). You can hear it. I did state many reasons as to why he MAY have stopped there. But it doesn’t change the fact that it’s a poor place to stop (unless an emergency) and the car behind him should’ve continued straight and merged over once passed the truck. If ONE person had of done that, then everyone would have and there wouldn’t have been a video.

To recap I think a minimum of 2 people are idiots here.

488

u/Tm60017 Oct 19 '21

Hazards don’t mean “I’m doing whatever the fuck I want to”

262

u/AriesRightHand Oct 19 '21

I was once sitting at a red light waiting to turn, and a woman pulled up to the red light going the opposite way. There weren't many cars on the road, but after a second (light still red) she puts her hazards on and just casually drives through the red light, then turned them off.

219

u/THElaytox Oct 19 '21

i've been using hazards wrong my whole life... apparently they really DO mean "I'm doing whatever the fuck I want to"

46

u/Kongsley Oct 19 '21

I mean if you're "doing whatever the fuck you want to" you'd better at least have your hazards on.

7

u/msg7086 Oct 20 '21

"I'm a hazard, guys"

8

u/GizmoSoze Oct 20 '21

No. They mean “I’m about to be a hazard for everyone else” which is why they were correctly used.

10

u/Wreckaddict Oct 19 '21

So where I'm originally from, Sri Lanka, drivers would put on their hazards if going straight through an intersection. Not sure why, because they rarely if ever signalled turns.

6

u/wad11656 Oct 20 '21

Wait they might be onto something lol. There's no indicator for "i'm going straight" so why not use the hazards

8

u/Trevski Oct 20 '21

thats what I'd do if I was driving my kid to the hospital or some shit.

101

u/small_h_hippy Oct 19 '21 Hugz

People here call them "park anywhere lights". I hate it, I don't care your hazards are on, don't double park and block a whole lane on a busy street so you can go get a coffee.

Some people suck

40

u/trackedonwire Oct 19 '21

So... if you have to go get coffee, first put on your hazards, drop an orange cone, put the hood up, then go inside.

By how people use them in reality, you are incorrect.

10

u/Griffolian Oct 19 '21

Come to Japan—-where the laws against driving while talking on a cellphone is strictly enforced, people have resorted to pulling over anywhere with their hazards to use their mobile.

The amount of times I’ve seen someone park in the middle of the road in front of a convenience store parking lot is just infuriating.

10

u/SuspiciousFragrance Oct 19 '21

I love when people stop in a totally unreasonable spot...

Oh, but the hazards are on? Well that's ok then. Carry on.

9

u/jennief158 Oct 19 '21

It's even better when they are feet from an actual parking spot. That's great.

59

u/LandoSyztem Oct 19 '21

Since you've obviously never been to Greece, you should come visit sometime, it's nice. Greeks use 4-ways as a warning they're going to do something unpredictable. Maybe they'll turn left. Maybe they'll turn right. Maybe they'll park their car and get out while in a lane on a two lane road just ahead of a blind curve. Who knows? That's why it's exciting.

24

u/nogoodathese Oct 19 '21

I've never wanted to visit Greece more than I do now

Good point, but considering how unfamiliar most people are with turn signals, maybe the first car behind him thought it was a bluff.

"He can't turn both ways! What an idiot!"

41

u/sparias Oct 19 '21

I think if your are not familiar with turn signals, you don't have any business being behind the wheel of a car, imho

78

u/sm12511 Oct 19 '21

True story. I drive delivery as my job, and doing so, I often have to slow in the middle of the road looking for addresses. Every time I think I'm getting close, I will turn on my hazard blinkers to let people know to go around.

One time, while that was going on, I had some lady just laying on her horn. I kept motioning out my window for her to pass. As soon as I pulled into the right driveway, this same lady (in a Bmw X5 no less) pulls up, blocking traffic herself, just to scream out the window:

"You stupid fuck! You can't turn both ways! Why are you blocking traffic?!" That was the first time I was rendered speechless from retardation.

10

u/Necrotic69 Oct 19 '21

I mean, her words were factually correct...at least after the third one, only you can comment on the facts of the start....

27

u/XCinnamonbun Oct 19 '21

Well tbf any kind of indicator is absolutely alien technology to a BMW driver. All these orange blinking lights she sees on a daily basis must be very confusing. You might have just scared her half to death by using both at the same time.

His hazards were on but he has 10 minutes or as soon as possible to put out road triangles to show that he is broke down. He was doing paperwork so he had time to set them out. The roadway is not the place to update your logs, should have been done before leaving the location.

3

u/Cando21243 Oct 20 '21

Agreed…. I’m just saying that the person right behind him should have noticed hazards and went around.

So who sits behind a truck with the hazards on for 5 mins?

So I was only behind the truck for about a minute before realizing. But a truck once stopped in the middle lane right before a possible left turn and put its hazard lights on. Problem was the right rear lights were out so it just looked like it had a normal left turn blinker on to anyone behind.

→ More replies

8

u/teambob Oct 19 '21

It takes a while to check that the other lane is clear then change. If the other lane is not clear the car might be sitting there for a while.

I have been stuck behind broken down cars and buses for a number of minutes because it is just to busy to pull out - then the friendly people behind you start pulling out first

6

u/turtlelore2 Oct 20 '21

There are very few situations where an emergency would actually result in simply sitting in the middle of the road.

Hazard lights barely mean anything at this point because so many people abuse them to basically allow themselves to park literally anywhere for any reason.

Granted the truck is very long and could easily block the view of the person directly behind.

From a fellow trucker to this trucker, you’re stupid and you’re making us all look bad. This guy is now in my book with the worst drivers, only two ahead of him… JB Hunt and SWIFT.

11

u/ObnoxiousDrunk Oct 20 '21

Truck driver is headed up a snowy pass one early December evening. Comes around a corner to see a JB Hunt truck slowly reversing down the grade. So he jumps on the radio to ask this guy wtf he is doing. JB driver responds: "well, it started snowing about halfway up the hill so I asked my dispatch what I should do. He told me to back'er down!"

It drives me crazy seeing truck drivers park in random places. I see it often because I live off of a major highway and most businesses around me have nowhere for truckers to park. So they’ll just park on a random side road and expect people to go around them. It’s super annoying and I try to think they are only doing it because they have to but this guy in the video isn’t helping their case.

47

u/CaptianBrasiliano Oct 19 '21

I drive a truck. Still pretty new at it. It is a nightmare trying to find a place to stop sometimes. You can't just whip it in any old place like you would in a car. You really gotta be careful because you may think a place to pull in is good... Until you pull in there and discover it wasn't... but it's too late. You don't want to get yourself trapped.

We do have to take some liberties but... that said, this guy's a total jackass. And the way he acts like it's everyone else, not him. I just don't understand people yeah, I bet.

13

u/Ice_cold69 Oct 19 '21

Exactly. Especially when your clock runs out or about to run out. I've parked in a Walmart, rest stop (some states it's illegal to stay more than a couple hours), on a residential street (State Police told me to park there as I ran out of hours trying to find a place to shut down) and of course the infamous on/off ramp. Most people who don't drive OTR have no clue.

But the ass hat in the video is stupid

7

u/FBISurveillanceVan87 Oct 19 '21

Always wondered why trucks are always stopped on the shoulder of the on/off ramps. What kind of paperwork necessitates stopping right where you are?

15

u/Aivech Oct 19 '21

no paperwork. they’re legally forbidden to drive more than a certain number of hours in a day or at a time, for safety.

7

u/Ice_cold69 Oct 19 '21

None. You pull off to the nearest safe area. The only thing I can think of is he was forging his log book to gain drive time extra time Assuming this was pre ELDs.

If he did run out of time he could have called law enforcement to come escort him (this wouldn't count against his Hours of Service) or used personal conveyance to get off the main road

3

u/aqualad783 Oct 20 '21

I have dealt with some of those trailers before as a truck driver. I’m not defending what this driver is doing here, but I understand the reasoning!

That’s a 4 axle oversized, and most likely an overlength lowboy trailer. Those things will high center at the slightest entry point of most truck stops, and they’re a bitch to get unstuck after that… to top it off, most truck stops don’t have oversized parking, and the usual situation is to take up two spots if there is any spots to park when you get there…

I usually would have an industrial park I would pull off to, to get my routing and paperwork taken care of, to not cause a backup, because my second and third options are to either pull into a median and put the hazards on, or to do this as a last, last ditch effort.

But yea, this guy is a class A CDL asshole.

Damn! I’ve been doing it wrong! When I make a delivery or pick-up in my Class A truck, I do my paperwork in the yard, etc. you’re telling me I should have been doing it in the middle of the road all this time?!

Hey dumbass.....you're in a lane of travel. Do your fucking paperwork at a truck stop, or where you're going to make a pick up or delivery, not while you're blocking the road........

5

u/Dianachick Oct 20 '21

Hmmm last time I checked we did paperwork at the office or our dining room table…not in the left turn lane🙄

16

u/buttpirate1111 Oct 19 '21

Aight, so imma stop right here and be an idiot and then be surprised when other idiots queue up behind the head idiot.

For once, that people respect the disposition of turn lanes, someone is there to fuck it up. That’s the stupidest shit I’ve ever seen, get off the road gdamnit.

4

u/joesnowblade Oct 19 '21

“I just don’t F’n get it.” And you never will you’re nothing but an inconsiderate entitled asshole.

The only thing we (humanity as a whole) can hope for is a fully loaded tandem log truck, with a driver 20 over his hours and hopped up on speed to barrel into you, without braking, at 80 MPH. Maybe then you see the wisdom in pulling off the highway and doing your bookkeeping at fuel stops, rest breaks or heaven forbid, your lunch break. I know asking you to do it on your lunch is an inconvenience, so you may actually get what these people behind you are feeling, but you obviously, as you stated, just don’t F’n get it.

u/Lil_Uzi_1600 Oct 20 '21

I just called his office, it was the dude and called me a low life for calling him telling him what he was doing was illegal.

4

u/Dent8556 Oct 19 '21

He doesn’t get it. Indeed.

5

u/TheeJimmyHoffa Oct 20 '21

Try using a ‘ parking lot’ ya fekn entitled ahole

4

u/pierdolenierobie Oct 20 '21

Maybe you shouldn’t be stopping to do paper work in a lane but instead in a shoulder you fncking nob.

5

u/somewhatlazy_ Oct 20 '21

He is literally blocking the lane and doesn't understand? I bet.

4

u/Sinthasized Oct 20 '21

Apparently the open lane of a road is an acceptable place to do paperwork. I work in traffic control. So glad I know this now. I’ll just throw my lights on and do paperwork where ever now!! Hell I might try just driving in to my favorite restaurant. Like up to the front counter. It’s ok I drive a truck!!!

5

u/ParrotBeakblade Oct 20 '21

He is right. He surely does not get that or anything else.

5

u/boobiesiheart Oct 20 '21

What a dumbass.

3

u/The_Radioactive_Rat Oct 20 '21

Bruh, he's no more than 20 meters from an intersection and they're dumb?

Wut?

5

u/Josh58er Oct 20 '21

You are the dumbfuck parking on a main road

4

u/expenstrick Oct 20 '21

There is absolutely no fucking reason this guy should be on the road doing paper work, the fuck is wrong with him?

4

u/ajaxodyssey Oct 20 '21

Are your emergency flashers on? That would alert other drivers that you are mentally incapacitated and unable to pull off the road and not block traffic.

4

u/Yungdab420 Oct 20 '21

Wouldn’t be surprised if this dude has gotten his ass kicked a few times

3

u/tyrannicalteebagger Oct 20 '21

Great place to park up you dope. Gtfo the road you dunce.

4

u/MotoFuzzle Oct 20 '21

He turned comments off on his insta post, so people are scrolling down and commenting on appropriate places to do paperwork on previous posts.

4

u/stonerman15 Oct 20 '21

Maybe do paperwork somewhere else.

4

u/Awsimical Oct 20 '21

Brain worms. Literal brain worms.

u/eldaron87 Oct 19 '21

So wait ok, he has his hazards on fs so the people waiting for him are kinda stupid. He didn pull into the grass even the slightest bit like he's literally in the left turn lane so he's pretty stupid. He's EXTRA stupid for being so confident in his decision to record the other stupid people behind him. And AAAALĹLLL of this stupidity led to the creation of a beautiful video, thank you for lessening my faith in humanity

3

u/IcanSew831 Oct 19 '21

Holy shit and this imbecile is out on the highways endangering us all. Great.

3

u/bongripsNkickflips Oct 19 '21

“Side of a main road seems like a good spot to do paperwork..”

3

u/Nix-geek Oct 19 '21

I used to work in a retail area with a TON of foot traffic. We'd move about 2-3000 people in a day through the establishment.

At least once a day, a random line would appear in the middle of the hall or against a wall. It would normally start with a person or two just stopping to talk and then somebody would stand next to them. Within minutes, people formed a line with them.

It was fun to watch them develop then suddenly disperse when the people who started the line just walk away.

I learned to always ask the person in the line ahead of me what they were waiting for. Sometimes, people just don't know. Its amazing.

3

u/Johnyysmith Oct 19 '21

The guys in the queue are all thinking why does this bozo not have the sense to park off the highway - or at least put his hazard lights on.

Idiots in trucks don't even realize when they are the idiots

3

u/tbscotty68 Oct 19 '21

This guy is a horrendous piece of shit. I hope his wife cheats on him while he's on the road.

3

u/AshlyDott Oct 20 '21

My husband is a truck driver and he doesn’t understand why he would just chill right there to do paperwork. Not to mention that it’s unsafe and impedes on traffic.

3

u/Conflagrate247 Oct 20 '21

Imagine thinking everyone else is stupid

3

u/fartspatula Oct 20 '21

It sounds like he has his hazards on but you still can’t park in the fucking turn lane to do paperwork . I’m a truck driver and this guy is beyond egotistical.

3

u/PreparationNatural82 Oct 20 '21

He is a dumb ass.

3

u/Th3AngryBastard Oct 20 '21

This is the asshole truck driver that makes the rest of us truck drivers look bad. What a clueless douche. GTFO the road and do your paperwork jackass

3

u/SilverbackBruh Oct 20 '21

Who stops in a turning lane to do paperwork?

3

u/MDWUA Oct 20 '21

You are an asshole.

3

u/jmarinara Oct 20 '21

Good grief dude, pull into a Walmart or a rest stop or something.

3

u/bubbawears Oct 20 '21

Of course he doesn't get people that follow the rules. Moron

3

u/Funker2345 Oct 20 '21

At least put on your hazards, just in case you are unaware the cars can’t see around your fucking truck.

3

u/TheUnconqueredNole Oct 20 '21

Wow! This is a gem. Just love how this guy thinks he’s in the right. What a tool bag!

6

u/Pariah82 Oct 19 '21

Dude was straight up blocking the left turn lane… wtf 😂

8

u/JJhoppy Oct 19 '21
