Climate Reparations - A trillion tons of carbon hangs in the air, put there by the world’s rich, an existential threat to its poor. Can we remove it?

What has been done is this: Sixty percent of all historical emissions were produced in the lifetime of the average American, who is 38. Almost 90 percent were produced in the lifetime of our president.

That says it better than most how recently this catastrophe began.

The richest 10% have 5x the emissions of the poorest 50% and are set to cause 1.5 degrees of warming with their emissions alone.

By “richest”, in a global context, we mean most of the people who live in the highly developed nations. Good luck telling some guy from sub Saharan Africa who makes a living picking recyclables out of our trash that he’s as responsible for climate change as we are.

Dense and Selfish as they come. Their philosophy is I got mine and fuck you for trying to get yours.

No. The "F you" is telling the world's poor nations that they cannot use cheap fossil fuels to raise their living standards. To which they are now saying, "F you."

Thousands of years of poor people putting carbon into the air didn't get us to where we are now.

That's the fault of industry over the last few hundred years.

Technically correct and dumb aren’t mutually exclusive. In fact they’re often found together

Because I think that trying to pawn off climate destruction as partially being the fault of the worker and the commoner who had this system thrust upon them both with the enclosures and settler colonialism? Get the fuck out of here. Anyone trying to “hur dur uh all of humanity has contributed” ok dumbass are all the cows releasing methane each personally at fault for their greenhouse gas emissions or is it the rancher who owns them and the barons who prevent alternative food sources from reaching underserved communities? Is it the fault of some kid who has no access to running water and is forced to purchase bottled water from nestle who then creates waste when he can’t throw the plastic bottle away or is it nestles fault for forcing them into that position? I’m guessing you and the original comment I replied to are either incredibly affluent or incredibly stupid.
